Well it looks like I will be getting a few unexpected perks come race day at IM WI.  I received an e-mail from IM and they notified us that all the selective service slot members are getting the following:

??- Low bib numbers, immediately following the pros

-  Special color coded bibs identifying us as first responders/military

- Premier transition rack location, adjacent to the pros (this will actually save me 3-4 minutes!)

- Highlighted recognition in the IM WI Official Race Program

Kind of a neat surprise all in all.  I am most excited about the rack location as it will make up some time for me.  Probably enough to cover a few bathroom breaks  I was hoping they would allow us to start the swim with the pros, that would be a huge benefit as I would be clear of the masses.

11 Days till go time.

You deserve it!!Lap it up!I'm #285 woo hoo! Last long run today and now it's all about the swim and tapering.

Thanks for the kind words.  I count myself lucky to have been truly blessed to have served with so many great people from all walks of life.  We have lost over 6200 personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan over the last 10 years and multiple times that number have been wounded both physically and mentally.  This is what motivated me to apply for one of the slots as well as fund raise for the Wounded Warrior Project.  Let us all pray that we will be able to bring these conflicts to an end quickly.

I just got my race jersey, a special design was done for the selective service slot members.  It is really meaningful.  It has the National 9-11 flag (special permission was granted for its use) on the back, and the words "Sacrifice" on both sides.  I will post pictures when I get a chance.  It will help to keep me motivated during the event.

A little over a week remains, nerves are starting to kick in as well as the normal taper symptoms.  I have started to feel a slight pull/shin splint of late.  I backed down on the running and it seems to be doing better.  No problems with it on today's 5 miler, I don't think it will be an issue.  My biking has come along well, for me, and I can't remember the last time I felt this strong on the bike, hopefully it will transition to race day.

I will be thinking about you guys during the race.  Over the course of 12+ hours there will be plenty of times I will draw strength from the group to get through the unexpected and rough periods.  Thanks again for all your support.

The next couple of days are going to get crazy, so I wanted to stop in one last time prior to the event.  At this point I'm feeling good, no injuries to report, minus some various little tweaks here and there.

Got my bike tuned up last weekend and put some miles on it this week, it is running great. I also put on new tires and tubes.  I've only had the bike about 6 weeks now, but I have put almost 800 miles on it and I'm feeling really comfortable with it.

I have a few of goals for the race:

1. Finish and take what the day will give me.

2. Beat last years time of 13:07

3. Finish closer to 12:00

4. Swim less than 1:20, bike less than 6 hours, run less than 5 hours.

I will be thinking about you guys during the race, thanks again for all the support and well wishes.

Also good luck to Marcia on her HIM!

Thanks everyone! Greg will be motivation on this day. Knowing he's doing double the distance and knowing the cause he's racing for. I'll be thinking of Bobby too. Knowing he's going the same distance and will be ahead of me - I'll try to keep up . I feel ready - not sure there's a barn door to break done LOL. I'm tired just climbing stairs!! Looking forward to having a day to myself where my job is o get to the start line and then the finish line. Everything in between is ME time!!

QUESTION - Just reading the athlete's guide - whew - thank goodness floating IS allowed for the swim

I have a question about the bike.  It says we have to leave 10m or 6 bike lengths between us and the other bike.  What about when we first get on the road out of transition?  How does that work?  I find there's always that one person that passes but can't maintain the speed and you play cat & mouse the whole way.  I'm slow on the bike - the thought that every time I'm passed I have to slow to allow 10m between my bike and the one in front SUCKS!!   I hope everyone just takes off and leaves me on my own so I don't have to worry about this!

There will be parts of the course where drafting is the only option due to the clutter.  Don't worry.  Unless you are taking pulls at the front of a paceline, you're not going to get a drafting penalty.

In all seriousness, you just did an Olympic; the 70.3 distance is not too much different.  The swims are almost identical.  You spend a little more time on the Bike, and the run is double - big deal.   You've done the training.  Sunday you execute.  Simple.

169.  That just jogged my memory.  Now I do remember you posting it.  HAVE A GREAT DAY OUT THERE.  WE RACE CAUSE WE CAN.  BECAUSE WE ARE FREE.   Thanks to Men and Women like you, Greg.  Truth be told, I almost signed up for the SEALs.  My grandfather was a Marine.  In retrospect I should've enlisted when I was younger.  I envy and admire you.
