Was able to get a swim in around lunch in between all of the thunderstorms in the area. Another 2 inches of rain today! It was a pretty easy workout.  Unfortunately, I feel like I am losing ground on the swim. Today my 100 times were 2-4 seconds slower than I would have expected based on perceived effort level. Tomorrow I have a 500TT as part of my swim workout.....not very optimistic about that. Maybe tomorrow will be a better day in the pool.

Easy 30 minute run this evening. Probably on the treadmill because of the weather

Ran 2X times today for 15 minutes each time. Second time the wind was 35+mph. It took longer to find a headband to wear (normally wear a visor/hat) than it did to do the run. Also wore clear glasses to keep the dirt and wind out of my eyes. Glad to be off of house arrest from running.

Randy,

Today I felt like I was fighting the water for my entire swim. I can never figure out what changes to make one day easy and fast and another tough and slow.

You never know, you may just show up and crush your TT if things are "on" tomorrow.

I bet it feels good to be running again. On Saturday, about mile 11, I was kind of thinking a running prohibition for a week or two might be a nice thing........

I'm sure I'd go crazy (maybe I'm already there?)

Today was a rest day, which was really welcome. Tomorrow, it's swim and an hour run.

Quick question, what shoe does everyone wear? I'm about 300 miles on my Asics Gel Nimbus 13s, and I went by my local running store to try on a few pairs. I'll probably end up going with another pair of Asics, since I'm not having any problems with them, but just wanted to see what everyone is wearing, and whether they'd recommend them.

Jason,
trust me you do not want to be on house arrest from running. I'm thankful to have 3 little mini-runs back on the schedule for this week. Hubby is glad that I'm running again. Actually anyone that comes into contact with me on a daily basis is glad that I'm running again! Coach says I'll be ready for Galveston on 4/7.

Jamie- I used to wear Asics Nimbus. Now I run in Mizunos and Newtons.

One of the better recent discussions that I have seen in triathlon talk if anyone is interested in power meters for training and racing:

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp...

What do I run in?

Two pairs of Saucony Kinvara 2s that are for any training up to about 10 miles and most triathlon races. Both with speed laces. probably about time for a new pair.

Hoka One One Bondi B (just got my second pair) pretty much my go-to shoe for any training run over 12 miles but I have never done a race in them?

Brooks ST racer 5 for pretty much any run.

Brooks Green Silence for anything 4-8ish miles.

Mizuno Trail Shoes for trail running or snow.

K Swiss K-Ruuz--racing type flat for any race up to HM but haven't used them in a tri.

Nike Frees for the occasional treadmill run.

Asics 1130s don't love them but throw them in the rotation occasionally.

I am sure that I have forgotten something in there.

I really like my running shoes....

Holy cow, Jason, you really do like running shoes! I have a pair of Brooks GTS I do all my running in and that's it. If you looked at my climbing gear, you'd see where my passion has been.Got in a 7.5 mile ride and a 1000 yd swim today. Only second day back but man, that swim sucked. I hope it doesn't take too long to get back into the pace of things because I don't know how long my ego can take tis kind of defeat. Dealing with more snow here again so it's gonna be busy again at work when it lets up and people start getting around en masse.

I knew I was forgetting something:

Newton Gravity.

Newton Distance

Two pairs of Zoots that are mostly just kicking around shoes any more.

Rene, glad you're able to get some runs in!

Jason: That's quite a collection!

I have 3 pairs of running shoes. Brooks Glycerin for the long stuff, Saucony Hattoris for short stuff and treadmill, and Asics something or other for trails.

Got in an OWS at lunch of 1500. Water was murky. Anytime something touched me I freaked a little, lol! Everything had jelly fish and shark potential in that stuff, in my mind.

Run later.

Jason, how do you like the Newtons?  I got a PT prescription from my doctor and will call today to make my first appt.  One of the items on my hit list is to determine if a particular type of shoe is bad for me.  IE: I love my Brooks Pure Flows but maybe I need to work on being more of a mid foot striker before I can really run in them.  The Newtons intrigue me but holy $$$!!

So far all I've run in are my Brooks Ghost 4 (I have a brand new pair I bought when the 5s came out because I don't like the 5s that I stashed in the closet )

off to the gym this am to run another half mile.  MAYBE I'll go 3/4!

Have a good day all.

Finally feeling normal. Got in a good paced trainer ride and a tempo run on the treadmill this am. I'm staying warm and toasty despite our century record snowfall. Off to a good week, so far. I do need to get in a core workout today sometime.

Dave-glad you are feeling better and back at it.

Running Shoes-I'm not quite as bad as Jason but close.

Saucony Mirage-been through a couple of pairs of these and they are probably my favorites over the last few years. Getting to the end with my current pair. Light but with a little stability and a really breathable upper. Of course they changed the model to the Mirage 2  and I didn't like it. Have not tried the Mirage 3.

Saucony Kinvara 2-very similar to the Mirage but without the stability. Nice and light and my go to for tempo runs last season. Still have a brand new pair in the closet I bought on closeout that I will work into the rotation. Not good to run sockless in given the way the ankle area is cushioned.

Brooks Pureflow-I was just getting into these in November when I strained my calf. I like the fit and feel. They have changed the model and have not tried to new ones.

Newton Distance S-(Ronald McDonald colors) slowly working these into my runs. Newtons are great but take some getting use to. Some people experience calf issues and given my recent strain I want to work into these gradually. I used Newtons a couple of years ago and like the lighter models but not the heavier training models

Innov-8-bought these last Fall with the plan to use for track workouts. Basically a flat with a really smooth inside and speed laces. Need to get these out and run in them without socks as I will probably use these in sprints this season.

Nike Lunar Glide-knocking around shoes....really plush.

I'm constantly looking at shoes and if I see something at a great price I will give it a shot.

I can't prove it, but the only times (three separate occasions) I ever had issues with my IT band were when I was in my Newton Gravity shoes. So even though they might not be the cause, my brain thinks they are and I'm paranoid to wear them anymore.

Other than that I have

Nike Free 2 - Nearing End of Life

Nike Free 3 - New Pair

I really like that they feel so light and minimalistic. I'll probably keep buying Free as long as they are in production.

I like the Newtons. They are nice and I really feel fast when I run in them. I have been using them intermittently for about a year now and I no longer have calf pain/issues when I use them. With all of that being said, when I am grabbing a pair of shoes for a run it seems like I usually skip over the Newtons for some reason. I have to remind myself to use them which to me says that they aren't really my favorites. I would not buy them at full price. You can find last years model on sale at a lot of places and that is how I would go.

I do like the Newton Distance better than the Gravity and I have a pretty darn fast 10K in them. They are really nicely finished inside so you can run in them without socks and your feet will do pretty well.

I worked over night last night and did cases continuously from 3:30 in the afternoon until 7:30 this morning. Never really sat down for 16 hours. It really put a damper on my planned workouts for today. Bummer.

Swim done. Today was mostly easy with a build to a 500 TT. Really didn't know what to expect since yesterday I felt so exhausted and out of sync during my swim. I could tell immediately today that I felt better as my times were much more consistent with my effort level. I think I just had some residual fatigue from the weekend workouts yesterday.  Ended up with 7:21 for 500scy. Didn't really have any specific expectation but I'm satisfied. One of my goals is to do 1000 yards in less than 15 minutes so this makes me feel like I might get there. I paced this one pretty evenly until the last 100 when I pushed hard. I've done lots of 500 sets in workouts but never really a single one as a TT so I guess this is a PR

Daughter's soccer game and 1.5 hour bike on the schedule for tonight...hopefully!
