Good Luck Gygy and Amy!

Hugs to Mila and "C" after a tough day.

Sal, you mean there is a time up there when the lakes AREN'T frozen?

Come down here. Its much warmer and you can still run the swim leg as most of the lakes have dried up. Or you can swim in the 55 degree ocean, and not have to do flip turns.

Ok, I registered (oficially) for my first tri. it'll be May 31st. it's a poll sprint, so I don't have to worry aboutgetting chilled

Gotta run--pick up my duaghter from school, and then pack for our quick trip to St George for her dance competition. I'll hop back on later if I get a chance. we can't leave town until my hubby's plane lands, so I might have a few minutes later to check in. If not, have a great weekend, everybody!!!

Yay for registering for that tri, Amy!!!!

Hope your daughter's dance competition goes well.

St. George?  That's a long way to go for a dance competition...State finals?

Have a safe trip!

No, just the annual big trip. It's about a 5 to 6 hour drive. Hopefully the kids will sleep most of the way. I'm sure my hubby will, too.

Well, it is time to get the spring baseline for how well the winter training has gone. My first race of the season is Sunday in Clermont. They are calling for rain, but like it usually does here in Florida, hopefully it will hold out until the afternoon.

I have raced this race for the past 4 years or so, as a prelude to St. Anthony's and as an indicator to the winters training regimen. This year, I feel I have faired pretty well in training, I have had minimal winter sickness, and no injuries.

I'd like to thank all of you for the encouragement and support over the past few months, it makes training improvement and motivation much easier from week to week!

Hope everyone has a great weekend, and I'll post a race report shortly after race this weekend!

Hey Everyone . . . thanks for the great encouragement . . . the day went great for me all around.

I had a great day overall, and I am so psyched for St. Anthony's in 3 weeks!

cb

Clermont Tri - 1.5k / 40k / 10k

Overall race day was excellent. I beat my time on this exact course in 2006 by over 20 minutes. ( Last year they had this wacky distance that was between International and 1/2IM). I have listed all the details in the RaceLink Race Report @ http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/races-edit.asp?ra...

It was a great race as they always are out there. It was also a great measure of my winter workouts, as it was clearly obvious today that I felt great on the course from start to finish, I never had any issues physically. The one area I was not pleased with was the bike, but it happens, so it was not as good as I would have liked but it was not too bad either. I feel that this race is a great start for the 2008 season and I cannot Wait for St. Anthony's at the end of this month.

Sounds like fun Gygy.

Walkers here do the same thing. Either the rules don't appy to THEM, or they don't know right from left.

If I see lots of people in purple T- Shirts ( Team in Training) I know it will be a disaster. They walk shoulder to shoulder the entire width of the course and don't care if they block people trying to run. Runners are the rude ones trying to get by them while they chat with their buddies at slow stroll pace. Oh and they must start in the very front, because it will take them longer to finish.

That and they they have buses to take them off the course at 13 miles, even though its full marathon only, no half marathon or less on that day.

Great Race Corey.

Where did you make up the 20 minutes?

And what besides Yankz would you do for transition?

Back from St George. what fun! my daughter ( who is all of 11 years old) has decided she is old enough to handle getting herself ready for her dances. She didn't even want me on standby to help with hair and makeup touchups before her second dance! It was so weird. i liked it, but it was weird. Spent some time by the pool, outdoors, in 70 degree weather. i think it actually got up to the upper 70's yesterday. And at the pool party after the competition was over, I was the 2nd adult to get thrown in the water, fully clothed. Dang husband. I got him back, though. Lesson here: never pull a prank on your wife when she knows more of the people you're with than you do. I recruited a couple teenage boys to throw my hubby in the pool. It was almost too easy for them. on a sad note, I didnt get any workouts in. the fitness room was supposed to be open until 11 pm. As it turns out, it was only open until  9 pm. that's ok. I'l just have to ride my bike in the snow tomorrow.

Sal, did you send the white witch to Utah again? The weatherman just predicted 2 inches of white stuff by rush hour tomorrow morning...

Hey Cashmason,

I made the 20min up on the bike and run. My swim time was pretty much exactly the same as last time, give or take a few seconds. My bike was 7+ minutes faster . . and the run was 12+ faster so roughly about 20 minutes or so.

On the first Transition, I definatley need to get the suit off faster. It was the first time I raced in that new suit, and it got caught around the ankles . . . in T2 I had issues getting the socks on and tying the laces, that's why I know my Transitions have been way faster with Yankz. Sometimes I run with socks and sometimes without . . this day I ran with socks and it took a bit extra to get em on.

LOL, you feel my pain.  At the end of the race, during the "running of the bulls" segment, this girl is walking in the MIDDLE of the narrow road, nothing but runners everywhere.  I had this scene flash through my mind where I shoved her out of the way.  Then I came back to reality.  I'm not an agressive person, but I don't have much patience for idiots the older I get.  I'll be the old lady with road rage.  LOL

Note to self: if you ever race in Carolina, don't start walking in front of the old lady with a cane, she might hit you with it..... wink.

Yes Gygy, that walking thing in the middle of the road during a race seems to be universal.

You could have given her the innocent but intentional (passive aggressive) 'flat.'  You know, the old grade-school prank...step on the back of her shoe with your toes as she's walking, and pull that old shoe right off her feet...'oh, I'm so sorry...how clumsy of me'...

But then of course...instead of walking...she'd STOP...

Did my first complete interval workout this a.m.  Ouch.  I think I may need new shoes soon.  My shins are a little tender.  Trying to run more on the ball of my foot or mid foot strike, instead of heal/toe.  That could have something to do with the tenderness, too.

Passed my state test and I am now a CNA.  Woohoo!  All that butt wiping paid off, LOL.

Sorry, posted under hubby's username.  This two BT user family gets confusing.

Congrats on passing your test Gygy!

Oh and I study I just saw said run your natural way dont try to change your foot strike.

Trying to change usually leads to injury. But as you start to run faster, your foot strike will naturally change, moving toward mid foot, and if you get really fast, you will land on the forefoot.

I will try to post it here tomorrow, if I can find it again.

Woo hoo. 400 yards continuous in the pool tonight. Last week 100 in a row was difficult.

Did swim about 12 yards sidestroke about the 300 yard mark, to get my breath, but didnt stop.

I think glaciers move faster than I do, but hey it worked.
