boryloco - 2009-10-13 7:38 PM Of course 3 weeks prior to the race I get hurt. Anyone have success dealing with runner's knee? I would hate to not run between now and the race. Thinking of using kinesio tape, but open to suggestions.

Runners knee could mean almost anything....Patellofemoral syndrome?  IT band pain? Patella tendinitis?   Knee pa
in you can't identify??????

The PT says patella tendonitis. Apparently I have one femur longer than the other and causing problems. I am following their regimen, they say I will be able to race. I just hate missing running days. Losing all this fitness.

Well... I not trying to win in my age group...just finish the race.....I think I would overheat in my wetsuit if I wore it in temps above 78.....I was there at last year's race and remember how cold it was the morning of the race....it warmed up to the 70's with clear blue skies......

Mr Steve

I swam today in the gulf. It was 44 outside yet the water felt great with a wetsuit. I ddin't check to see what water temp was before jumping in.

No kidding, 44! Nuts! Good thing I'm driving and not flying....cause I'm going to be bringing options for everything! Granted, anything could change between now and then.

trihardathena - 2009-10-18 1:49 PM 2 1/2 hour run/walk/stumble this morning...and taper has arrived!! Thats a good thing since my legs are pretty sore ... not really from the bike on Saturday but from some strength training I did on Friday!! Time for an easier schedule!! Do you ever feel like you didn't do enough?? Am I the only one afraid that I could go out for another week and do some long rides and runs and it will make a difference??

Trust your coach my friend   Trust the training.  You got it this year

Just for kicks I went to Accuweather's 15 Day forecast and it shows a low of 40 degrees and a high of 64 degrees on November 1st.  We all know how accurate the 15 day forecast can be.  The forecast for Oct. 30th 2 days prior to that is a low of 55 degrees and a high of 83 degrees.  I wonder how many times the temps will swing back and forth.  I am very curious where it will finally land.

I have a 2 week taper.  Niext week is a little less but still pretty heavy volume.  2 week taper works well for me.

You're tough!  I started out this am and decided it was too cold & wet to ride outside.  Yep, I'm scared to death to get sick this close.  Don't really care if it's cold Nov 7th.....I can get sick after that.  I took the ride inside.  Boring, but it's done!

I read about getting a cheap windbreaker to use at the beginning of the bike and then just throw it away at the aid station, once things warm up and/or you warm up.  Also, someone wrote in a race report about using old tube socks for arm warmers.  I wear my windbreaker when I go out biking at 60 degrees... I know the water felt warm to everyone the morning of the race in 2008...since the air temp was in the 50's...I can see myself freezing while starting out on the bike...

I still have one more big week 11,000y swimming, 190 miles biking, and 28 miles of running, then I taper next week which is about a 9-10 week, then I leave for Florida and don't plan to do much.

Has anyone set a meeting place to do a practice swim on Thursday.  I have a group of guys that will be going out Thursday for a swim and I'll probably do a short 15-20 mile bike on Wed. just to make sure everything is working right.

Happy Manic Monday all,

I still have one long swim, bike, and run myself but the volume is decreasing.  I was going to do the long swim this morning but it is 35 degrees outside.  As far as travel goes we are heading down Tuesday and will be staying through the following Tuesday.  We are trying to make this somewhat of a family vacation.  What is everyone else's travel plans?

Current Accuweather 15 day forecast:
- Nov 2nd  High 75/Low 51

Current Water Temperature at PCB
- 73.9F

Current Countdown:
- 18 days 23 hours 50 minutes

Holly cow that is a long drive!!  Especially on the way home.  I remember having to do a long drive home after my first marathon and my legs wear killing me from all the soreness of being couped up in a car.  More power to ya!  I live in Atlanta so it is only a 5 1/2 hour drive for me.

Good tip.  I was planning on bringing some smart-wool socks as well as a pair of flip-flops that I don't mind losing.

I am doing the same drive on Tuesday. I am coming home on Sunday though. I did this for IMKY and I survived, albeit the drive was 2 hours closer.
