cdban66 - 2012-07-17 8:43 AM OK, so I had one race on the calendar this year. Since we had some other responsiblilites we had for our money, races took a back seat. Long story short, we've freed up some money. So that is no longer a concern. And as you may know, I was not happy (or unhappy) with my race this weekend. You can see where this is going, no? September 1, Sprint Tri in Venice, 30 minutes from my house. The same transition area used at Rev3 Florida this October (Go Ann-Marie!). Do I sign up? We'll just be back from our Alaska cruise a week or so earlier, so training may take a hit. But the objective of the race would be to simply get some more race day experience, get another shot at running off the bike and try to up the toughness level. I'm thinking it's a go, what says the pod? Am I setting myself up for disappointment?

As others have said, do it!  And then report back about the quality of the transition area and swim and bike and run for me

As far as your lack of training b/c you'll be on a cruise - you do know that you could get up early and hit the treadmills on the ship, right?Wink

Ann-Marie, I volunteered at this tri last year. The transition is on a nice, fairly new parking lot. Of course, yours will be bigger, so I'm not sure how they'll do it, but I expect it'll just be longer in the same area. It is right next to a tiki bar/restaurant on the fishing pier, but I digress. The bike for the sprint is a bit rough, as the roads immediately by the beach are run down. You'll only be on the bad road for the first mile or so out of T1. The rest of the ride is primarily on some nice, yet older roads. The final 2 or 3 miles may be on the older, bumpy stuff. Don't be afraid, the worst roads in this area are still nicer than the good stuff in a lot of other places.

Winter bleugh - I clearly do not like training in winter.  Anyway all is well I did 45mins on the drainer and actually it was fine.  Problem was i was so tired before I started, got home from work at 6pm and started on dinner, made a divine Massaman beef curry in the pressure cooker.  Homework with Artemis - spellings - we love these, we draw pictures of the words.  Then get her bathed and read a story.  Then it's 7.30 - hope on the drainer for 45mins, eat dinner, drink a beer.  Shower, dry hair and it's now 9.50pm and I'm beat!

Tomorrow lunchtime run and swim squad in the evening.  Roll on summer.  I leave the house in the dark at the moment and come home in the darker!

You're a crazy busy and high energy lady ... and remember I GIVE (just not take) excellent advice

I think it's essential, during Iron training, to sometimes take a day off to rest more, or even for no good reason. And not to make anything up. Just do it.

Oh my, I have MISSED my MANATEES!  I just spend the last 45 minutes reading through 20 pages (you kids have been busy!) and am very thankful to you all for the stomach workout I received from laughing!!  You guys are SOO entertaining!  And I love it that we're never far away from pigglets and booze!

Great job last weekend all you RACING MANATEES!!  Fantastic work!

Great photos, girls, for the tunnel and of the cute little  froggies! love!

Yant - you story about MR CELEB is awesome!

I was sailing and taking photos of sailing all weekend (on Hobie 16's and Hobie 20s - SO fun)  I did get a bike ride in with my AWESOME-IST dad and a swim early at the beach so that's good, but I'm telling myself it's taper for my HIM this weekend

I'll try not to stay away for too long - It seems like I miss all the fun when I'm not around!!

You're gonna post pictures, right??? Man, I miss sailing ... Hobies are FUN and FAST!!! I miss surfing too ... but I really can only focus on one watersport (and one overall ridiculously expensive sport like tri) at a time!

Trade ya??  It is like an oven here and I melt in the humidity.  I LOVE running in the winter.  I don't overheat and I'm much faster.

My neck is messed up.  Really sore.  I think I slept weird last night.  I must kick my dogs off my bed and get Cole in his bed.  I ended up with his feet on my back last night.  Crazy kid.

So, no ride for me today but I think I'll run in this nasty heat.  It will be slow as can be but at least it's something, right?

In other news, I am missing my two kids who are at camp.  I haven't heard from them.  I even sent them with pre-addressed/stamped envelopes but no letters have arrived.  Big surprise, right?

Got my run done.  I took Yanti's advice and did a 3:1 run/walk.  3 miles done!  Now to rehydrate and shower.  I smell so nasty even my dogs won't come near me!

I got an email from New England Masters Swim Club for a discount on swim safety bouys.  They are great when you are swimming somewhere with boats, especially, but we also tape our Garmins to them to know how far we swam.  Here is a link to the discount page, if anyone is interested.  I didn't need to put in membership information or anything...

Nice job getting a run in! It's hard when it's hot and you don't feel especially motivated.

I was hoping for a cooler afternoon yesterday for my run. I got low 80's which is ok but still warm.  So I pushed myself to run at least a 5k then let myself run/walk the rest.

Got a good swim in this morning.  Something the coach said last week, coupled with Yanti's swim hint from yesterday, clicked for me (I have been doing breast stroke wrong all these years...).  I felt smooooooth this morning.  I have a ride on tap for later as well.  Hope everyone has a great day!

I just finished the book I was reading last night (Sex on the Moon; it was really interesting about a guy-Thad Roberts- who worked at NASA and stole lunar samples.) and I need a new book.  Has anyone read anything cool lately?  And please, no Fifty Shades of Grey recommendations, I'm not interested.

I am amazed at her accomplishment! Last night while I was running I got to thinking about when she mentioned the trellis bridges.  I bet that was one heck of a course! Simply amazing.

We sure are blessed to have two wonderful/amazing mentors in this group, not to mention the pod of wonderful mentees Smile

I'm here, I'm here. Sigh. As if it's not enough that I am hobbling around the office they decided to test my mental stength as well.

I just had to give the biggest presentation of my life this morning. (To the boss's boss's boss's boss? Is that right? Boss^3? Boss^4? I don't know...) But, I survived- in fact it went really well but I am just burnt out.

Recovery is going well. I am bouncing back much better than expected. Got back in the pool yesterday, which felt great...despite my major pool deck phobia. You guys know about that right? I guess a phobia is irrational and I think what I have is very rational. I just hate pool decks. They gross me out.

Anyway, how are y'all?

That would be "50 Shades of Not-Even-Bad-Enough-to-be-Entertaining Mommy Porn."

Hmmmm ... if you liked Sex on the Moon, I think you'd really like Thunderstruck, by Erik Larson. Here's part of the blurb:

Erik Larson tells the stories of two men--Hawley Crippen, a very unlikely murderer, and Guglielmo Marconi, the obsessive creator of a seemingly supernatural means of communication--whose lives intersect during one of the greatest criminal chases of all time.

It's not fiction; it's one of those better-and-stranger-than fiction history writes.
