Well I did the group ride.  It was pretty awesome! Almost as cool as race day! I was one of the stronger climbers in the group. I guess all those hills are doing some good!

From my training log:

Did the routes I do on a regular basis but really pushed to stay with the lead pack so it was much more challenging. Stayed within eyesight of Andy (not to be confused with Andie who I lost). He dropped me on the flats but I caught him on the hills! I got a QOM on the big hill to the Star Center and 2 second place segments on Idalia!

Because Andy was pretty much my pace booty and because he was wearing an IPA bike jersey:

That is awesome sauce. I was about to send you something and see if you did the group, but you beat me to it. It looks like you had a really nice experience. And it always feels nice to compare yourself to others and see that you are matching up well, you climbing machine! When is the next one?

With racing season winding down I don't know how often they will have these group rides but I hope they will at least do one a month.

Oh, and I dig your mirror!

Thanks. I am a bit spoiled, we have group rides in the area at least 4 or 5 times a week. My schedule doesn't give me much chance to get to them, but they are available. If you think it is something you want to do more often, you might want to stop in and talk to the folks at the LBS. They might be able to point you in the right direction.

I'm glad you enjoyed it!

amd723 - 2012-09-21 11:13 AM Well manatees, I am going to get my first DNS Sunday . I have not been able to shake this stupid cold and although I'm sure it will be better by race time, I would have to head down to south Florida today (packet pick up and bike drop off is tomorrow) and I can't work up the energy to make the 3 hour drive. If this were my A race, I'd do it, but it isn't ; so I think it is better to make sure I'm healthy and don't do anything to negatively affect my training for the HIM next month. At least that's what I'm telling myself to make me feel better about bailing ( and losing my entry fee!).Hope the rest of the racing manatees have a better weekend!

I'm sorry that you are still under the weather.  Hang in there!

Now a question for the collective wisdom of the manatees:  I'm doing a 30 mile easy bike tomorrow morning with some friends.  According to the Weather Channel, temp at 7am will be around 61 degrees, partly cloudy, winds ~8 mph.  We'll probably start the ride at 7:30.  Since we are going at a fairly leisurely pace, I'm guessing we'll be out there til near 10am. (not sure of the ability of the one person we're riding with) By 10 it is supposed to be 69 degrees, mostly sunny and winds ~10 mph.  What do I wear?  Long sleeved jersey (non-fleeced)?  Short-sleeves with arm warmers?  A light jacket (sleeves come off to create vest) with short sleeves underneath?  I'm not overly well-versed in dressing for different temps on the bike.

Late to the party here but -- dress for the end of the ride, not the beginning.  You got it right if you are just a little too cool at the beginning and a little too hot at the end.  That being said, shorts, SS jersey and arm warmers.

...in the middle of my drainer ride my tri coach from the tirathlon club called - wants to meet up tomorrow to go through my 'progress'.  I'm happy actually this week will work out to 9 hours 45mins, pretty much where I want to be for both HIM and IM.  Excellent.

I feel I've got my mojo and my motivation back - thank goodness maybe because the sun is shining and I got my workout done before 9am!

Awesome!  That should be a fun meeting -- you have a lot of good stuff to report!

Ran the first 5km of my HM route tonight.  LOVE that the start is a 5 min walk from my house, that the route goes right by my house, and that I have run most of the route at some point before.  First ye!ar for this race, hopefully it goes well

so I didn't run today - I did a 3km walk for the Relay for Life for women with or having suffered etc, breast cancer.  A great event where teams do laps of a track from 4pm Saturday until 10am Sunday - with some running right through.  A few friends did an official marathon of the track with official timers etc (that's a lot of laps!)  Tents all over the track for those that sleep there - I got there at 8am and just walked 3km with a friend was nice for a while then the heavens opened the wind whipped up and it dropped from 14 C to 8 C in about ten minutes.

After that I went and met with my tri coach from the club - he's such a cool 60 year old dude! He said Im fine, on track and not to worry the bike will come with the weather.  He said it's good that the wind trainer is my best friend, won't do me any harm at all.  he said the mental strength I have to train solo for the bike and run is great.  Also very impressed with my swimming.  So came away happy with that.

He said not to worry about the Oly I have in 6 weeks - if I want to do it then do, if not just go up watch and have a good time. Same witht he HIM two weeks later, do it if you feel ready but no problem it's just training.  He said to remember that family and life are way more important than ironman - he'll get me to the start line.  If the day goes well I'll finish but he said we cannot control all the variables on the day - a choppy ocean, a cancelled swim, flat tires - injuries etc.  Just go with the flow.

I feel good for having seen him.

10am Monday morning it's bike coach time - I'm excited, I'm not as bad as I make out I am i just really need someone to watch me clip and unclip stop and start and say - Jo you're good to go and I'll be fine.

Another offer today of a group ride from the tri club.  So I've three offers, LBS, tri club and the coach group - oh la la, I'm in demand!

I did my homework.

Hard to do when you're flat-out ...

But a cool tile floor is lovely when you're fevered.

Neither Jim nor I drink, so we balanced a thin cola can on my butt. That's as close to beer butt as we get in this house ... not the most attractive shot but we git 'er done!

I've also done my homework but will wait until I'm at my computer to post as well as my RR. I won overall women and am happy with my race but I'll save the details for the RR. it should be a good one,
