Differ GREATLY from an apt or pretty similar? a few thoughts... lived in one prior to moving to the 'burbs...ours was fairly close to a place in Atlanta called "Buckhead" - good nightlife, shops, $$, etc...and when the time came to sell, we were in good shape (property value essentially dbl'ed in 4 years due to HUGE pop growth in Atlanta after '96 Olympics)...this said, there are lots of townhomes out there...while our propery value was increasing, it seemed that every apt complex in the world was converting to condo and new townhomes were coming online in droves...as you frequently hear re: real estate, location, location, location...also, look at demographics...townhomes typically appeal to and to your specific question - yes, they do differ a fair amt from an apt...(usually) better neighbors, homeowners association (helps keep things in line - good for resale), quieter, etc.... Differ GREATLY from an apt or pretty similar? Hello, K; hello, TAN! I've lived in two. It really depends on the setup. In my case it was more like living in a real house, except that it was much closer to the houses around it, and was in a gated community. But it was great 'cause it had a yard and it really was its own house and fairly spacious, and you can usually have dogs and whatever pets you like in a townhouse. Also, sometimes you get shared amenities like pools and clubs with a townhouse (although that's apartment-like) that you couldn't have with your own house. |

Differ GREATLY from an apt or pretty similar? I currently live in a townhouse (we've been here for 3 years). I love it! So much nicer than a regular apartment. My biggest complaint in other apartments was noisy upstairs neighbors. Now, I can only complain about my husband. Some things to think about: the end units usually have higher heating bills (at least from what our neighbors say), parking is still an issue. Depending on your neighbors it can still be noisy because of noise coming through the wall. I'd live in another townhouse before going back to a regular apartment. |

Differ GREATLY from an apt or pretty similar? We rented one for the first 3 years, until moving to Philly. We had plenty of space for us and the dog. No need to worry about yard maintenance. BUT... We had neighbors when we first moved in that were our entertainment. They would get into screaming matches in the parking lot, until the police came. Other than that, it was alright. It ultimately depends on how they are set up. Our last house was a twin, and that was ok, so long as the neighbors were quiet. But you get used to the smells of strange things cooking. At least they weren't crackheads, like the people down the block. |

We had neighbors when I was in college, across the street actually, who were all white trash, it was two couples, and worked on perpetually broken Harleys all day because none of them had jobs. After drinking a couple cases, they would fight each other. It was funny. |

This couple would scream and yell at each other in the communal parking lot, until someone eventually called the cops, who would alternate hauling one or the other away. It was at least twice a week, until they eventually moved out. I felt bad for the 4 kids.... |

Well you were in the military. Maybe it was me but we had more than our fair share of trash living on base. |
