Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official ThreadFunny to see how different everyone is in their preparation. One of my training partners is a 5x Kona qualifier and he won't ride anything longer than 80, nor run longer than 16-18 prior to Lou. He likes to save it all for race-day. But he's been a freak for 30 years and shouldn't be followed too closely by mere mortals like myself.
For me, the long training is more about the mental aspect of knowing I can go the distance, and then also dialing in my nutrition. So far this year, I've ridden 75-80 a couple times and 100 once, with some 40-50 mile mountain rides that I count as distance as well. I'll have one more 100, one more 80, and more mountains. Runs have been less, with many in the 10-12 range and the longest around 14-16 so far (but won't go over 16-18 for the longest). My longest swim has been 2500 meters, so I suppose it's time to start working on that. But then again, I'm just looking to finish (my second) and not too worried about time.
Only 8 weeks to IM-Lou (6 to the taper).
