mr2tony - 2008-11-03 2:40 PM My boss just came back and told me it was up to me -- I could cover Obama since I had seniority. The other reporter was super excited about going and looked really sad that she wasn't going to be able to go, so I deferred to her. I'm a sucker.

No, sir.  You are a gentleman.  And I am honored to know you.

Ha. Thanks. She just came running up to me in the kitchen and gave me a hug. She is like a kid on Christmas. She's 23 and this is her first job out of grad school. I feel better about it -- she's super happy and that makes me happy.

You are such a softie.  Can't wait to tell Beth this.

Hey all,

Hubby and I decided we need an adult weekend away and chicago is not that far, good/best resturant pics and things to do?

www.opentable.com is a good place to start.

Guess it all depends on your wallet and your tastes.

Bin 36 is good.  Great wine selection.  Killer charcuterie (sp?) plate and cheese plate.

If you just want bubbly, go to Pops.  They do appetisers, but are more known for their champaign and sparkling selection.

The Saloon Steakhouse.  Great chop house.  Great appetizers.  Not too loud.

Gioco's on the near south side.  Great selection.  Great atmosphere.  Also, not too loud.  Great service.  At least we had it.

I could go on, and on, and on.  So I guess, what is your budget and what do you like?  Or is it easier to say what you don't like?

I've never eaten there, I've just heard a lot of good things about it. It's on my 'to eat' list.

Overpriced. It's in the touristy area of town.

Might I suggest:
http://www.chicagochophouse.com/noflash.htm
-- Best steaks in the USA. Hands down.

http://www.customhouse.cc/menu.html
-- Great contemporary steakhouse with great food and good prices.

http://www.lalucerestaurant.com/
Home-grown Italian. Don't eat for a week and you MIGHT have enough room to finish the meal. Web site sucks. This place is kinda small and is family-owned. I love it.

I love La Luce. I take all my BT friends there when they come visit because I know how much triathletes love to eat. It's small and intimate. Only about 10-12 tables. HUGE dishes though. Last time I went there me and my friend could've ordered one meal and both been full.

Just a word to the wise.  There are a ton of tourist traps here.  Rainforest Cafe, Hard Rock Cafe, etc.  If and when you have some ideas, bounce it here, or in the IL forum.  Tony and I will quickly answer.  He and I have very similar tastes.  We can direct you to some great smaller places that are a bit out of the way, but worth it.
