Sports Basement here we come! Yep you need some new running pants I got some sweet running pants this weekend. Three pairs, various styles, 21 bucks for the three at Zellers. I mean, they ain't no tri suit, but a lot better than spending 70 bucks on one pair, which I did last year. Did I already post this.... |

Pro 4828 The Land of Ice and Snow | Subject: RE: QUEEN ZIP & KathyG - CLOSED I am feeling much MUCH better today.....funny how a new bike can do that for you! From my blog here is my list of positives from yesterday. Please help me to add more to the list. OK.....speaking of the sufferfest I did promise to write a list of positives to be taken away from what was essentially a hideous experience: !. First and foremost this reminded me how incredibly lucky I am to have the health and strength to even RUN a half marathon. 2. I learned a valuable lesson about the importance of CHECKING the route before hand and making sure I know exactly where to go. Think of how much worse this would have been had I missed part of the course at my HIM this summer.....it is a mistake that I am unlikely to make in the future. 3.My body does not know the difference between a training day and a race...this essentially was a two hour hill and speedwork session and with rest I will reap the benefits of such. 4.I learned that for any winter race I may choose to do in the future , it will be necessary to use Yak Trax. The slipping with every step on the icy terrain was the most challenging part of this race. 5.I learned that next time it will be better to listen to my gut......which told me NOT to attempt this race because I was sick. I have to have more respect for my house. I need it. It deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. 6. Finally the most important thing I learned was to really HTFU. This is a skill I will need if I am to ever attempt an Ironman. I need to learn to push through pain....this was great practice. I wanted to stop with every step, but something kept me going. I will put this in my mental "toolbox" and call upon it when I need it this summer at Timberman. Well.....there it is. Feel free to leave me any other lessons that you think can be learned from this. Aren't you impressed that I have NOT used the "F" word today?????

You also learned what you had inside you to push even when you shoulda listened to "the house" Impressive avoidance of the f bomb too. ( my favorite subsittution word is beans...don't know why but at least it isn't offensive and I can say it at work without getting into trouble) |

Pro 4828 The Land of Ice and Snow | Subject: RE: QUEEN ZIP & KathyG - CLOSED Can anyone give me any ideas how best to recover from the sufferfest? Normally I have no issues with running 20 k....but ouch I am sore after yesterday. What should my week look like in terms of training?? Given that I have been ill? I really want to recover well....... |

Champion 5312 Calgary | Subject: RE: QUEEN ZIP & KathyG - CLOSED I think you just got to listen to your body. If you feel like you can do something do it, if you feel you can't then don't. If you can swim, swim. You can always swim. They say the best recovery for IM is to swim everyday, so probably good after a foot race. Also, an easy/short spin on your new bike is good, apparently it flushes out the lactic acid. That is what I heard anyways. The key is not too go into any intense training too soon as your legs are probably broken down quite a bit from the sufferfest. Intense training will just promote injury if they are already in a position where they are vulnerable. And you never know, I didn't run all last week and felt pretty good about it, felt pretty strong. Then I run today and my knees hurt, whats with that? So I am not going to push it because I know if I do I will just hurt myself, perhaps my knees or perhaps some other part because of my compensating for my knees. |

Maybe some light swimming and an EASY trainer ride if you feel up to it but nothing hard! |

Champion 26509 Sydney | Subject: RE: QUEEN ZIP & KathyG - CLOSED Just got back from the bike shop and Im more confused that ever... At the price point Im looking at I can have an: Orbea Diva... Colnago CLX (which the guys think is a better option if it fits of course!) OR.. they think I should consider the Argons which are great specs at my price point but unfortunatley I just dont look at them and go 'WOW'
They are all carbon frames, mid level or greater groupsets... decent wheels etc... and they will build to spec anyway... so confused! |

YOu have plenty of time to train for your HIM and compromising your health will not get you anywhere you want to go. Remember muscles get stronger when they recover after the suffering, not during- otherwise we would all be stronger as we race.aquagirl - 2009-02-23 6:04 PM Can anyone give me any ideas how best to recover from the sufferfest? They are all carbon frames, mid level or greater groupsets... decent wheels etc... and they will build to spec anyway... so confused! I found buying a bike incredibly stressful and confusing. In the end, I just bought the cheapest one with aero bars, which in my neck of the woods meant at Cervelo p2sl. You are lucky because I imagine you have Cycle Guy to help you. The only real important thing is that you feel super comfortable on it. If the look of the bike is bothering you, you can always get it painted... |
