Morning all!

Went and did my swim this morning. Got rather ticked off by a rude woman: I was swimming in the first lane next to the wall and the stairs into the pool, sharing the lane with another woman. I'm somewhere around 40+ lengths into a 1600m continuous swim when I see an oriental woman on the stairs jogging in place. I ignore her and continue my swimming. As I'm coming back down the lane I see that now she's IN MY LANE doing her jogging. I think "WTF?" but don't want to stop my swim to chase her away. I continue along, trying to crowd her more each time I get to the end of the lane hoping she'll move or get out of my way. I hit my 1600m but don't want to stop just to yell at her and continue through to 1800. I say to her "This is rude! Could you please go somewhere else?" She responds "I'm not bothering you." I say "Yes, yes you are. Please move." It's not like the pool was full at this time; there were several half lanes open, including the lane with "The Running Man", the guy who shows up around 6:45 to jog in place. She certainly could have shared a half lane with him without having to annoy anyone! Hard to keep my concentration with this going on!

I feel for you !  There is a older woman who get in the ONLY roped off lap lane we have and gets in the corner, hangs her hands on the outsdie of the pool and just hangs there........   drives me nuts !  most others are mindful that i am swimming laps, but they are still runing in the deep end back and forth across my lane if there are very many of them.  I'm lucky in the way that most of them will move when they see I am on my way back.......  did you get running woman to move for you ?

After I said "Yes you are, please move!" she got out and went to the empty half lane at the other end of the pool. I think that part of the reason she used my OCCUPIED lane was she didn't want to get her hair wet. I kinda wished I knew how to do flip turns!

hey guys! sorry i've been MIA. dh is off wed and thurs, and it's harder to get on here as much. LOL not that that's a good excuse.
anyway, i never made it out for my 6.2 i had an energy crash, which i discovered last night was because i'd been forgetting to take my iron. (i'm anemic-ALL THE DANG time. it sux) so i ran yesterday and it sucked, then i remembered to take iron last night, and this morning, and today's run was MUCH better.
i have a 10K coming up feb 8th ( i THINK that's the date, i'll have to double check) but now i'm not sure if i'm going to do it or not. after having taken over the finances for the fam, i'm behind on some stuff, and i'm not sure if i'm going to be able to justify to myself the cost of travel, and registration and stuff, oh well. i'll think about it anyway.

anyway, gotta get dh out the door to work, i'll be on again later.

I know how the finances thing goes.  I signed up for IM FL 70.3 before hubby told me he had gotten behind on the house payment last year.  We took $ out of our 401Ks to get that caught back up again, and get ahead on a few other bills we racked up while my mom was dying, but now we did our taxes and owe $15,000!  (On the bright side, we all know how it would have disappeared if we hadn't taken it out) I have paid the reg. fee, hotel (which was a great deal at least), but still have to figure out how to get my bike there and buy a plane ticket.  I suggested not going, but I'm not getting out that easily!!!  Anyway, good luck with that.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!  Nalani, I finally got to see your awesome time on that marathon--and with the tummy issues!  You ROCK!

AndriaLL - 2009-01-28 5:26 PM

I'm IN!!! (Of course I'm home & not training, that's why)  Hello everyone, sorry to hear some of you are snowed in!  We had some cold weather Monday, but it's getting better.  I will have to check out Nalani's blog today!  Way to go!

I'm really sick with a Lupus flare right now.  My vision has cleared up at least.  I will get pretty behind on my training except maybe for some swimming this week at the one pool I feel comfortable going to with this rash all over my body (I do wear a barrier cream, which I posted a link to on my blog today--it works REALLY well).  Although my joints are not painful right now, my muscles on the right side of my body are all inflamed and painful and I've got pericarditis.  And I've got an incompetent rheumatologist who told me I need to drink less water, not buy new socks when I asked herabout compression socks.  I have new insurance and this is the best they provide me with.

My kids are happy and healthy, so is the hubby.  I'm frustrated I can't train, but somewhat relieved as if I have a flare now, one just before/during my HIM in May is a little less likely.  There's always a bright side, right?

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Andria

So Andrea how long do these bouts last??? I don't know a lot about Lupus. I hope is passes soon for you. And you are right there is always a bright side to things...way to be positive, I admire that characteristic in people. Amy IN

Sorry Amy, guess I missed alot again.

They're all different.  I have minor joint pain continuously in my hands and feet at this point.

This one I thought was gone when my eyes cleared up, I had one *almost* normal day and then the pericarditis hit me like a truck and I got the pain on my right side.  Now today I'm tired...albeit VERY tired.  And the pain is going away.  The rash and fever have been consistent.  I wouldn't have swam last night had I not known most of the people who would be there as I get stared at alot otherwise.  I guess that's actually the toughest--the rashes and people staring, and migrating the other direction.  I don't cry much, but that's one thing that can get me going.  Anywho--I went to a support group once and met people who no longer get remissions.  I still tend to be in remisison most of the time and feel lucky for that.  I still have my light at the end of the tunnel and it's what keeps me going   I feel horrible for those who get no breaks

And Scot, maybe I'm used to one issue more than another, but colds are nothing to sneeze at!    LOL!  Seriously, I would never train with a chest cold (well, don't go looking back at my log.  If I did, I shouldn't have!).  And just lightly, maybe, with a head cold.

Thanks all for your kind words!  I'll get a RR up before the weekend is over.

Who's racing soon?

Can't wait to read it!

I was supposed to race a 5K on Saturday, but since I'm traveling  back home across the country tomorrow, I decided to skip it and focus on next Saturday.  I'm going to race a 15K then.  I've rationalized not racing on Saturday by deciding to devote what time I have this weekend to a long bike ride and a long run.  Let's see if I can stick with it!

Does anyone else have arguments with yourself -- yes I should race, no I don't want to, yes but it's a good thing, no my legs hurt, etc, etc, etc?

So far I have gone to all of my races that were held.  I have had the argument with myself "should I walk it?", "should I race it?", "catch up on my sleep?" or "should I just volunteer instead?".  So far the score is walk 1, volunteer 1, slept through 1 (then found out it was cancelled...how lucky is that?) and I raced all the others.  I've probably wanted to catch up on my sleep for all 100% of them, though!

Hey peeps!

Nothing specific to say, just have a great weekend! I hope today is better than yesterday and tomorrow even better for all of us!

I've got big plans for the weekend: 1-hour postal swim for masters, 1.5 hour bike ride Saturday (I just remembered I invited some people to a half-century next month and figure I'd better be able to do it) and an 8 mile run on Sunday. What actually gets done, that could be another story!

I'll be cheering the Steelers to victory (love Troy P!) and tuning up bikes during the game! Go Steelers!

I went to the doctor and he said I'm doing great, he said that I'm really making positive changes and my body is detoxifying, he looked at all my charts and said I have to double my protien to get the ph balanced faster. I had several questions for him that he was glad to answer, on was a question on a flyer in his office, it said that vinyl shower curtains let off a toxicity and is harmful for you....ok I said, so if that is true what do you think about my profession!? I cut, weed, tape and apply vinyl on a daily basis and I sit in an office full of about 100 rolls of it..............he said that is not good for you and can cause swollen hands, joints etc...and I shouldn't be breathing it..........WELL okaydokay... that is another problem another day.

On Lacy my daughter. I assumed everything was fine, but called the doctor yet again because we need to know for sure. Well she said the test was "basically fine", does anyone else hate that word????? Basically isn't fine to me. She said the eco showed a slight regurgitation...ok, what the heck does that mean!? Anyway she said the Doctor wants her to go see a cardiologist, she is setting up the appointment for next week. I will look this up on the internet, but does anyone here have any experience with a regurgition issue???????
On a different note with Lacy, she ran indoor track today at the Indiana University and got 2nd in her mile heat with a time of 5:12, and got 3rd in the 800M with a time of 2:22, she said she is ok with the times, but knows she can do better......I hope I wasn't the one that made my daughter such a perfectionist. She doesn't know about the results yet, I will tell her when she gets home tonight.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Friday.

regurgition is when a valve in the heart (we have 4) doesn't close properly. What happens is when the heart muscle contracts, a bit of blood flows backwards insted of forward thus not being totally efficent. If the amount is small it is no biggie.

and with babies it meens, changing your shirt Laughing

Oh my...what a day of mixed emotions, Amy! I am so glad to hear that you are feeling better and the improvements are evident. I guess the next hurdle is how to ensure that your workplace is a healthy place for you too.

Amazing times for your dd. Wow- she must get all the speed and determination from her mom! I can't say that I know much about regurgitation other the fact that it is likely valve related but it doesn't seem to be affecting her times and her health as a high performing athlete is certainly on her side. The fact that she has received a diagnosis and can seek treatment from a specialist puts her on the road to understand her options for moving forward. I will be thinking of you and Lacy as you continue this journey.

Nicole- good for you for speaking up and calling out the rude lady in your lane. Sometimes people need to be told what they are doing just isn't cool.

Andria- I am in awe of how you are dealing with Lupus and with your commitment to your training. Sorry to hear about the financial situation. These are some tough times and races can be pretty pricey.

Sorry to hear about all the chilly and non-cooperative weather out there! Thankfully, things are warming up a bit here but there is still a lot of snow and ice. I am trying to stick to sidewalks and pathways that I know have been cleared though there have been some slick sections. Poor Linkin has played the role of Bambi on ice a couple of times. Hope things start warming up for you all soon!

Today ended up being a rest day.   At 7am it was raining.  At 8am the rain became snow (the wet messy kind) and it snowed until about 6pm.  There is probably 6-8 inches out there and the bottom half is just slush.   Tomorrow morning will be a mess.    The only plus is that tomorrow is supposed to be sunny all day.

Have a great weekend everyone.

I got out and ran this morning, my coldest run since last year; it was 18F. Between injury and weather I think this was just my third run in 3 weeks. Took it pretty easy while dodging ice patches.

I am soo glad that this is only done every few years....that is one mean machine...my girls were not made to be pancaked!

Have a Physical terrorist...I mean therapist appointment on Tuesday. I was told by a nurse friend who stopped by today that I should go....I hope I do not kick myself...but I think I am gonna go and hope they do not poke and pull and end up irritating what I just healed!

Looks like everyone is staying busy and training...and want to thank you all for holding to your promise and checking in as you are! I am about to go grab a salad for dinner..hope yall have a great evening. Tomorrow starts a new month! who is going to have the best month ever with me!??? and oh yeah there is a big game on tomorrow...any of you have any plans for the game?

I'm guilty -- I haven't been checking in much with the group for the past couple of weeks.  But now I'm finished skiing and back from my business trip, and it's time to get serious.  February is going to be "back to business" month.  I have a half ironman in May that I need to be prepared for, so I need to focus, focus, focus.  Anyone want to join me?

Hi everyone,

I'm guilty -- I haven't been checking in much with the group for the past couple of weeks.  But now I'm finished skiing and back from my business trip, and it's time to get serious.  February is going to be "back to business" month.  I have a half ironman in May that I need to be prepared for, so I need to focus, focus, focus.  Anyone want to join me?

Oops -- there I go butchering the English language again!  I didn't mean join me at the half ironman.  I was just trying to see if anyone was interested in joining me in the "focus" aspect of training.  I was thinking that if I was accountable to someone (i.e., you guys!), then I might be more inclined to follow through.

So with that in mind, by next Sunday I plan to:

  • Run at least four times
  • Bike at least twice (hard to manage until we get back to daylight savings time, since it's pretty dark when I leave work)
  • Swim three times (another difficult pledge, since the pool is only open four days a week at this time of year, and only open to active duty personnel in the morning, so my swims have to be after work)
  • Race next Saturday -- 15K Double Bridge Run (hills!)

Hey team! I sneaked into my roommates room to get some internet access..SHHHHH!  Recovery day today! I hit that new gym last night and had my booty HANDED to me on a silver platter!  What a workout!  Details are in my log.....Goggles came in before my suit .boooo It should be here by Monday, at least that's what the email updates keep saying!

Finally getting out of the winter funk I have been in for the past couple of weeks! I got a good workout in and actually went tanning to get a little glow..I know its horrible ( I worked for a Dermatologist and KNOW how bad it is!) But I feel like a TRILLION bucks!   Heading out for drinks to celebrate a friends birthday tonight...andyone have any ideas for "guilt-free" alcoholic drinks? Is there such a thing?! hahah

Take care everyone stay focused!

Way to get back at it, Monica! Hope you get back for more soon! Good news on the goggles...don't really recommend going to the pool until the suit arrives though!

Hope you had a good time at the birthday soiree... no real 'guilt-free' alcoholic drinks but I believe the best of the 'evils' (beer, liquor, wine) would be wine- if it is red, you get some health effects too! A suggestion I heard one time was to alternate your drinks with water so you end up consuming about half as much....I know not nearly as much fun but also not nearly as many calories either.
