gadgetlaw - 2009-05-07 3:12 PM Do you all use the BT training plans?  I just imported the Basic Oly Plan.  I have never used a training plan before and wondered what others thought about their benefits or drawbacks?
And, I may regret this, but I uploaded a swim video to my profile.  I am open to any and all criticism or suggestions!  Please try to be kind!!  Didn't we have a member many pages ago who offered to help analyze swim videos or answer questions? Who was that??

Thanks in advance for any help.

Karen

Karen,

It didn't look like you were going anywhere in your swim video...looked like you were "standing" still.  The object is to cover some distance  Maybe pull and kick a little harder.

dalessit - 2009-05-08 6:26 AM So what shoes are you guys using on the bike?  LOL, I now have 2 fancy bikes all set up pretty much the way I want them and have a crappy pair of performance Tri-shoes where the velcro seems to overlap all the time and is always in danger of getting caught up in my chain...

Sidi Zeta Mega size 49  These really are not tri shoes but it was all I could find and I spent weeks looking for shoes.    You might have seen the size thread on ST a bit ago on larger size shoes...  looks like the same issue for people w/ big feet.

You know what they say about people w/ big feet right?   (<<

Yes, Big shoes! Ok, you set yourself up for this one! what do they say about women with small feet? And be very careful.  I wear these SIDI shoes in a size 36.

That they have shorter strides, and can run boston in 3:50?

I have white/black one's that also match my bike setup.  One strap, lightweight, good price, breathable... Good shoe for me!  2nd pair I have owned.

Question for the group...Ironman Louisville is my A race this year.  I have Memphis in May tri (Olympic) coming up next weekend.  Should I taper next week or stick to my training schedule?

I would shorten your taper.  Use the 2 days prior to your race for spinning, resting easy, etc... Eat well.... Rest easy the next day, and pick it up from there....

Ok I am caveating my goals for this sprint--weather dependant-If its windy,(which Lethbridge is know for. About 1hr away from Rockies, they get lots of wind) then all bets are off on the bike. The run is down into the valley, so the wind shouldn't be do big of a factor.
So 500m pool-20k flat out and back bike. 5k run "character hill" to end it.
10-43-28= 1 hr 21min. I assume  t1 & t2 are in the bike time. DO IT!

Having  tough time keeping up with everyone but it sounds like you are all racing and making progress.  Great job!  I am reading podiums and 70.3's and PR's all over the place.  Great group.  I hope soon I can add some stats too.

Doctor's app this week and was given the all clear to run again.  I ran for the first time today in 6 weeks.  3 miles at marathon pace with NO PAIN!!!  I am back in game folks.  I just wanted to share.

Triathlon training offically starts for me in June, healthy in the nick of time

OUTSTANDING NEWS!

edit... WHOA hold on... looking at your log I have two comments

1.  Marathon pace is 7:11..... DAMN!
2.  Don't try to pull your 99 degree day is hotter than my 91 degree day BS.  We have humidity to deal w/ down here pal.

And good luck to everyone else racing this weekend. Sorry I didn't have time to go through the lists individually and name everyone.  I'll check it all out this weekend.

John--Good answer!  You could have taken that in a lot of different directions!

Trevor--Good luck! Stay tough.

Chad--YIPEE!  Can I be so bold as to why you picked MP for your first 3m run?  If you would have said my MP, that would have made me feel a little better.  Ease into it, ok?  You have a full tri season and a fall marathon to finish!

I have to say I am a little disappointed at our page total the last couple of days.  Who isn't contributing their share?
Rob? Kim? Linda? Roni?  Where are you guys?  Notice Trevor and Tony are never on this list!

Aaagh!!!! My ears must've been ringing, I am here to pad our thread count!!!   Tony, I wear the Shimano TR50's similar to Steve's shoes and I really have liked them.  I don't have much to compare to it because the only other bike shoes I have had are MTB shoes.  I do like the carbon soles, though!  And mine are white w/ baby blue, like my new specialized sworks helmet.

Chet, congrats on the recovery...ease into it

To everyone racing this weekend, have tons of fun and reach personal bests!!!

I am off to Monterey for a 3 day weekend and will be hopefully getting some runs in, but sadly no bike or swim.  I think we have wi fi in the room.

have a good weekend everyone

So my goal is to race an olympic distance at the end of this year.  Right now I have no desire to do half or full and would be happy with finishing an olympic strongly (well, strong for me anyway).  What is other's experience along these lines.  Right now I would say that I would be happy just doing sprints with occassional olympic thrown in.  Does anyone else race like this?

Yep... We all felt that way.  AT ONE POINT !!! I didn't even think this sport seemed interesting the 1st couple times I watched it.... I just did it so I could "get some" from my wife !!   She was a few years into the sport already.  Look at us now!! It's like a drug... YOU WANT MORE!!

Thanks everyone for the kind words, didn't like it much on the sidelines.

Suzy - hee, hee.  Yes there WAS a reason I picked that pace, just to see how it felt. I was just curious but I feel like I got caught  I am doing a November 140.6 and I am worried that an all out fall marathon would interfere with the training.  A late summer marathon will work though.    Any fast BQ marathons in late August? Early September?

Yep, did all sprints last year and finished it off with an Olympic.  This year will be doing an olympic in a few weeks but the rest sprints.  I just like the distance and like getting faster in it rather than just going longer and taking more time.  Also honestly just not sure I can put out enough workout time to put in the time I want for a 1/2.  Also doing a marathon a few 1/2's and some TT's thrown in there also.

Chet--OK, go getter--a fall marathon right before a 140.6? I've never done an IM, but I have talked to two coaches and neither of them would recommend doing something that strenuous so close to what I am guessing is an "A" event for you.  I know you want to BQ, but entering that IM healthy is so much more important.  Although if it was all about me, it would be great to have a friend in Athletes Village in April.

Racers--Good luck today and tomorrow!!!  Good Karma coming your way.

Kim-Have fun!  Who cares if you cannot bike or swim for three days?  Work on the running and ejoy CA!

Andy--Sprints and Olympics are very appealling to me too.  I think it is easy to spend time on this site and our mentor group and get totally wrapped up in distance and the next major challenge.  I agree with Tony, getting faster at the shorter distances is an interesting approach and one I could see myself settling on at some point.  I like being in the Top 3 of my AG for running and am no where near close to that in triathlon.  Hmmm, maybe a new goal for next year.

Hey Andy, I agree with Steve (WOWSER) but once you get a few under your belt we'll see how you feel.Tongue out I have my 1st Oly at the end of June, and would love next year to taget a 70.3. As well I despised running, and never had any interest in running a 1/2 or full marathon. Up to a few months ago still I had ZERO interest in that. But when you enter some of these events, you get hooked. I ran a 10k a few weeks ago and upon finishing thought "hmmm I think I  could do a 1/2 marathon now." Part of it for me is to see how far I can go, but as well how fast can I go. Either way Andy its a great llifestyle to get reeled into!!
Have a good Mother's Day weekend all...My wife rocks for allowing me to do this sprint tomorrow. We are heading out shortly so I will report back with my kick a$$ results Sunday night!! Ciao for now all!
