Hey Brian,

I felt the same way for the past few days. I felt like I was in some weird funk.  Took time off on Monday, and then it happened again yesterday. I woke up, and pretty much slept all day...on and off, never felt right, and decided to just bag my long run. Got a little mad at myself, but I think I needed a little break, I think I know the reason, which I will state below.

Honestly - if you feel comfortable finishing the HIM, then do it. Just get out there and have FUN and roll with it. Enjoy your new toys! Sometimes I find if I take off for one or two days and basically do nothing, will do wonders physically and mentally.

I think the reason why I'm in a funk is low iron. I'm going to get my blood test done soon and get the iron levels checked. I had a bit of a bad nose bleed out of nowhere Tuesday. I had the same issue a couple weeks ago. I haven't had bad nosebleeds since I was a kid..then had to have my nose cauterized due to weak wall. Looks like it started up again. ARGH!!

That doesn't sound good DJ! I hope you get it figured out!

Ken, I can't believe how much you're still doing.  Most people would take what you're going through as a good excuse to sit on the couch!

New tires/tubes/valve ext. came last night!   I was hoping the helmet would come early.....maybe tonight!

Speaking of new - I got new tri shorts and a new tri top for my race next weekend. Finally gonna have an outfit that matches my bike - all black w/ white accents. Personally I never really cared but my wife would roll here eyes when she looked at me.

It won't make me faster but I'll look better! Cool

I slept in a little this morning but plan on doing a short run and swim at lunch. My first tri (a sprint) is next weekend.

Nice on all the new gear and race kits!  I don't pay attention to the matching outfits either Adam, I figure grown men wearing spandex is pretty tough to improve on anyways.  My wife is always commenting on the color  coordination or lack of it.

Brian, one motivating thing keeping me going is that I had to wear a sling that strapped my arm across the top of my belly.  For a month I felt it getting bigger and softer, so whatever I was able to do I did!  Embarassed I am weak when it comes to dialing back my eating habits when my exercise drops off!

I hope everyone has a great weekend of racing (didn't hear that anyone was) or training.  I think most of us are in the middle of some very warm weather so hydrate well and don't over do it!!

I don't know about any of you but the heat we are having in CO certainly isn't a motivator to get outside and train. Also the smoke from the CO Springs fire has made its' way north which doesn't help matters.  Fortunately, they are starting to get a handle on that fire. So much loss there.  So the heat and smoke will probably keep me inside today.

Have a good weekend all!

I agree! It's been HOT Winds lately. Bleeeeech!  This morning was BEAUTIFUL. No wind, and pretty cool at 5:30a, but I kind of feel like crap at the moment, so I won't be riding/running out today.

Hopefully everything settled down a bit and you can get out there.

I don't have the link right now but I'm sure you can google IMCDA full circle and they have Carla coming out of the swim and then her finishing.  It's a good 30 miunute video.  The normal ironman motivational video.

Hey everyone. Happy weekend! Try to stay cool!

Had a little good and a little bad today. OWS went well. Had to check my garmin cuz I don't remember being quite that fast in the water. Run went bad though today. I did go mid day in the heat to get used to it for Racine. But my stomach bothered me again. Had to cut it short. Not sure what I'm eating. My diet hasn't changed.

I can not imagine what you folks in the west are dealing with the fires! Way too early in the year to be that dry. Kathleen, I don't blame you for staying inside today!

Don't under estimate how much the heat impacts a run Brian. Temps we are having are worth probably more than2 minutes per mile and if you don't run at that pace you will feel the effects. Be careful!

The group sure has gotten quiet lately.  Glad to see Carla back around.  It seems like it went from a nice summer to scortching hot all in one day.  I was at a softball tournamnet for my daughter yesterday and I think they said the heat index was 113.

Brian,

I went out for a run last Friday at noon. It was brutal near the end. The heat just kills my run. I got in what I wanted and tried to go a little further but my knee wasn't happy to go any further. Afters Sundays sprint I'm going to take a break from running and ease back into it in a few weeks.

It is certainly blistering hot all over!  Almost (I repeat, almost) glad that most of my training at this point is confined to my air conditioned basement!

I think is kind of funny that some of you folks are complaining about the heat, and now in Vegas, it's been nice really early in the mornings...70-85 until ~9am.

Congrats again Carla!! Seriously - you're my inspiration! LOOOOOVE the video! You had the biggest smile! :-)

Today I went to my gym pool for the first time in over two months perhaps? Last month, I had free Swimming for Triathletes lessons, and improved my times from 2:13 per 100/y to 1:46 per 100/y.  Amazing isn't it?!   The pool I used was really a competition pool (25y) vs. the gym pool (25m).

When I did my sets today, I felt like I was swimming in cement and upstream. I hated it. After swimming, my nose was just dripping pretty bad (chlorine sensitivity perhaps?), and never had that issue with the other pool.  I'm assuming that the gym pools are usually heavily chlorinated because people sometimes do the workouts at the gym, then jump in the pool and barely do swims, or jump in from the sauna/steam room.  Is there a difference between the consistency of various pool type (competition vs gym) that can affect your swims?

I'm considering of giving up the 1 mile drive to the gym and drive 25-30 minutes away for the other pool. There's also a 50m OUTDOOR competition pool along with the 25y indoor pool. It will cost me $36 for 30 visits.  I would continue the Swimming for Triathletes, but it's $46 for a month (8 swims) or $10 drop-in. That's a little out of my budget, but I will go back perhaps once next month just to polish up and have the coach check on my techniques.

What would you do? Give up going a mile from your house gym pool to go to a better pool?
