Goodness, the last time I had a 100 mile weekend there was beach volleyball, a late night party, a 55 Dodge, a 2:00 am road trip and a variety of things that I will vehemently deny if asked.

You are a better man than I, great job!

Asalzwed - 2012-04-24 6:43 AM Oh, but also, I am glad you held that down! You had better, it IS a pot of gold after all.

Don't think I wasn't thinking in both money and Pop Tart equivalents how much this would cost me if I puked.

Man, I have to go back and forth between metric and imperial allll day long. Now I need to learn the pop tart to beer to energy conversions.

Well, the good news is that there are approximately 200 calories in both a pop tart and an average pint of beer.  So, all you have to know is how many calories you burn per hour, on average, and you are set.  I, for instance, average 2 poptarts, or 2 pints, or 1 pop tart and 1 pint per hour.  Simple!

cdban66 - 2012-04-23 6:03 PM Just my luck, I decide to eat carefully and off goes the conversation about pizza, beer, gummi bears, cereal and all other manner of YUMMINESS. LOL, it has not been too bad a first day, so I really can't complain. As you were.

For me, this is like them posting cute pictures of kittens and puppies when my house is at pet capacity.

I am also intrigued about this volleyball/road trip Smile

Much of it is hazy, having been many years ago. But I do remember walking across Clearwater beach to sign up for a tournament at 9:00 am while carrying a cooler half full of cheap beer. (Un)fortunately, the tournament was at capacity. So was I

Good morning everyone. I am up, having a cup of coffee, and about to start getting ready for work. I skipped the pool this morning, thought I might go for a short run instead, and then checked the temperature -- 34 degrees. Wow. That seems unreasonably cold for almost May.

I had a great bike ride last night. I procrastinated going out because we had some wind yesterday -- not horrible, but I wasn't feeling up to fighting it. By waiting until 30 minutes before sunset, the wind died down (maybe 5-10 mph), and I had a very pleasant ride.

I wore my head lamp just in case, and wow. Was that ever attractive.

I'm kind of glad it is Monday -- every week down puts me a week closer to summer break!

What's on tap for everyone today?

C'mon. Chicks with headlamps are hot (I have proof ... somewhere). Nice ride!

Into typhoid relapse (common to have a 2nd, "somewhat" milder relapse 2 weeks out). Kinda wanna die. Clinging fiercely to that this is actually a sign I'm getting better. Yuck, couldn't the sign be, like, the arrival of Pop Tarts or something?

Oh, dear. Take it easy. I wish I could send you some pop tarts.

What's on tap for everyone today?

Take baby to doctor, find out baby has ear infection.  Just put her down for a nap, so we'll be going out to get antibiotics once she wakes up and eats.  At least I have an answer and she should be feeling better in a day or two.

I did manage to find the Son of a Peach beer, so I think I'll be having one tonight.  I'm going to need it by the end of the day!

I'm so sorry. Those are miserable. My first and second had them one after another. I hadn't had one in forever (if ever), so when my first one was acting so nasty about them, I wasn't very sympathetic. Then I got one. Oh my land. The worst thing ever. I was a very sympathetic mommy after that.

The first two ended up with tubes. Strangely, my third child hasn't had even one ear infection, ever.

Just found out my final position now that the provisional results are available.

I came 423rd out of 444.

In my age group i came 45th out of 45Frown.

My original goal was to finish a triathlon. period. My hope was that i would not come last.

As i have moved along my journey, i have come to enjoy what i have chosen to do, even though i know that i am not naturally built for it. I have also raised my expectations due to my competitive gremlin sneaking out of it's box, and so whilst i am pleased that i completed my challenge, i was a bit disapointed to see my overall position and to find that i was last in class.

I know that i have only been at this for 31/2 months and that i have already come a long way, but i am about to kick it up a level. I want you all to get behind me and push/encourage and generally nudge me further along this path that i have chosen. I don't have long before my next race and i am aiming to be further up the results page when i bring you my next race report.

Rant over and things now off my chest.

So how are your Mondays going? It's still raining here (about 10 days in a row), went out to celebrate the wifes birthday and it tipped it down.

Oh, Allen. I can so relate to this. I was the same way.  At my first tri: Goal One: "I just want to finish." Goal Two: "I don't want to be last," and Goal Three: "I want to finish in under two hours."

I did all of those -- but I was last in my age group and beat only maybe 10 people overall. That wasn't good enough. I didn't even realize I was so competitive until that happened.

Everyone has a beginning. We are at the beginning of this journey. It's okay to want better and to expect more of ourselves.

My daughter - Artemis! - had plenty of ear infections as a little one - every tooth brought an ear infection.  But never had one since!  It is miserable but now you know the signs - every time she's teething, get her to the doctor - the antibiotics work wonders.

My aim was always to finish and also not to be last out of the water for my age group!  Now I'm middle to front of pack for the swim but I'm last for the rest of it - and do you know what I don't care!

Usually not many in my age group - so on many an occasion I've had a top 10 finish (10th out of 10).  coach Johnny says it doesn't matter how many people - just say you had a top ten, good enough!  Love him!!!!

Oh my, can't beleive you rode in that wind yesterday.  It was 30 - 40mph here and we laughed at the idea of riding!  You're amazing!

Thanks Carla, I can't believe I did it either.  I would have felt better going in with FRESH legs but I had a tough swim and 10 mile run the day before.  We got to about mile 25 on the way out, my friend Pete says, "well, we can head back now, you'll have a solid 50 miler in the books or we can keep going...."

In my mind with IMKS 70.3 coming up I knew it was HTFU time.

I love that.

Well then, I suppose it's time I admit my weakness. Cereal. Any type. I can hardly ever hold myself to just one bowl. I do the, "Oh I didn't put enough milk in. Oh oops, too much milk, now I need more cereal" thing over and over and have gone through an entire box more than once. If I am out of milk, I have put water in my cereal.

Running has fueled the fire of this addiction, too.

Thank goodness I have found fiber one. It *naturally limits me to one bowl, tastes pretty good and has great carb/protein/fiber ratios.

My husband is this way.  I am tasked with procuring a special category of cereal -- the Snacking Cereal.  Cap'n Crunch and Golden Grahams seem to fall into this category.  The Trader Joe's Frosted Maple and Brown Sugar Shredded Bite Size Wheats seem to be a favorite in both the Breakfast and Snacking categories.

Rest up captain Kirk (I know, so forking original, eh?) You deserve it! Also, yes, sloooowly ramp up that running.

I thought you said alligators at first, not agitators. Either way, I am trying to think of what noise gators makes. If I knew, I'd be making it right about now.

Gators may explain Kirk's super fast swim though!  Innocent

Thanks to your post, I decided to try a bowl of cereal -- AND I HELD IT DOWN!!!

I am so excited.

Sadly, cereal is almost as expensive as Pop Tarts here. Many of the boxes are even only 100g ... that'd be practically a single serve box in the U.S.!

What do people eat in your part of the world????

Good morning! It is going to be nearly 90 here today (sorry for you people on the East coast, whoever is getting the snow).

It was 50 when I went out for a short run this morning. My plan is a 45 minute bike ride later this afternoon, and then a swim with the boys after dinner.

I made the mistake of not eating something right after my run. I didn't eat anything before, because I basically jumped out of bed, put on some clothes, and ran. But when I got back, it was time to get the little boys up and ready for school. Out the door I went with them -- both of them with something to eat on the way (I'm a bad mom -- they eat breakfast in the car on the way to school); drop both of them off. Then decide to stop by the grocery store because I'm craving a bagel with Nutella. As I'm standing in line to buy my breakfast, and thinking, "Why am I having to stand in line at our grocery store at 8:03 a.m.??, a wave of nausea comes over me. "Crap," I think. "I should have eaten something before this errand."

I make it through the line, and the drive back home, pop a yummy bagel in the toaster (half for me, half for number one son) spread on the Nutella, sip my coffee, and instant relief.

Okay, well, maybe not instant, but within 20 minutes, I felt better. My stomach is still a tad angry with me.

And Yanti, if you say you can't even get Nutella in Bali, I am getting your address and sending you a care package of yummy deliciousness.

I am glad you were able to get your Nutella on!

Thank God, Nutella is widely available here. It's egregiously expensive (as all imported foods and most goods are), but it's available on just about every corner. I do find reasons to "reward" myself and "justify" the expense ... also, I grew up on it, so ... it got me to where I'm at ... it's really a staple food ... etc.

We will all be behind you Allen lashing you with french sticks and poptarts.  Or we could do this:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3S0wu4Zbfk

Seriously though, you really did do a great job on you first ever triathlon.  Take this experience to learn and motivate you on your next race.  I was DFL (dead froggin' last) in my first open water swim.  What did I learn?  Swim more and do more races.

Now as for cereal cravings, I don't really have any.  My snacking guilty pleasure has been pretzels.  I use to not like pretzels, but now I can't get enough of their salty goodness.  As a matter of fact, I'm eating some right now.  Must.  Stop.  Eating.  Whole.  Bag.

Hope everyone's day is going well.

Hi Claire!

You know, I think we can all agree on Pop Tart and beer equivalents ... the elusive cereal:milk ratio, however, is one that takes decades, if not a lifetime of balancing, and can never quite reach perfection.

Good morning (afternoon, evening) all!  I got my run in this am, and am now contemplating a second breakfast.  Felicia, I too get nauseous when I don't eat.  I had a bagel and cream cheese right after running; now it is too early for lunch, but I am hungry!  Maybe some yogurt and granola... Plan is for a one hour bike later.  Supposed to rain, so might be on the trainer.
