Madkat started a thread about resolutions in Cup of Joe that includes a link to a really REALLY good article on resolutions and relapse.  Here's a link to the thread, resolutions.  I apologize that the original message has a link to the article (and I could simply link to the article here) but I think there might be some useful discussion in the thread for people who follow the links.

So...in the interest of stretching people a bit...go check out the thread and if you explore a bit in Cup of Joe in the process, it's not bad.

Smile I swam my first 1500 yards tonight!!! I'm soooooooo excited!!! Smile

I'm starting to feel a lot more comfortable with my swimming & breathing.

Did I tell you how excited I am about it? I'm sooooo excited!!!

Tomorrow, running & then to spin class - Maria

That is huge.  Great breakthrough.

Bricks are great.   Some suggest running at least a little after every bike.   Trying to get into that habit.  But not to overdo.

On a low intensity week.  Only swam today.  Off now until Saturday.  Have a great day.

I went over to a training buddy's house last night and did a 1 hour trainer ride to a CycleOps video that he has for sprint/speed work... Whoa!  I thought the spinning class could be tough... not so much.  I won't waist my time at spinning class anymore, I am gettting that video set.  Had to be the hardest trainer ride I have ever done.

It is awesome the level of workout intensity that you can get using tools that are on the market and not so pricey.  They invite me to spin workouts every Tuesday.  But I tell them, no thanks, yours probably can't match the intensity of what my coach sends me for my Computrainer.  I have some of those race vids too for the regular fluid trainer.  They are great.

stephsprint - 2011-01-26 7:32 AM Overslept my FARTLEK this morning but ran a mile and a half on my own. Lots of coughing but maybe that's the only way I'm going to get the stuff OUT of my lungs! It felt pretty good.

Question - swimming is next and this is my coaches directive.

7X300 as1/3/5/7 pull breath each 5
2 as 2X150 hard on 3'00
4 as 3X100 hard on 2'00
6 as 6X50 hard on 1'00

WHAT?!? I'm thinking I should have actually TAKEN college algebra instead of CLEPing out. Oy. I have a 25 yard pool.

maybe I can translate.  The overall swim is 7x 300 yds (12 lengths or 6 laps = 300yds) with every other one being a pull while breathing every 5th stroke. which is what the 1/3/5/7 means

the 2nd set of 300 yrds is broken into 2 x 150 (6 lenghts) yds in 3 minutes. if you finish the first 150 yds in 2 minutes then you get a minute to rest before you do your second 150 yds. you leave every three minutes so the faster you swim the longer you rest but you will definately need it.

the 4th set is swimming 100 yds 3 times leaving every 2 minutes and the 6th set is swimming 50 yds 6 times.

Does this make any sense?

YIKES AND AWAY!  That is the most complicated swim I have ever seen.  I think I would have to write it all down in detail, put it in a ziplock, and staple it to the end of the pool, otherwise I would loose count after the first three laps... I am having a serious pitty dance for you right now.

No need to pity me. I rarely do what I'm told. I'm just going to continue to be a form freak until I can swim 20 laps without stopping. K.I.S.S. for me.
I called the coach last night and he explained the workout to me. The team is made up of excellent triathletes who just DO this kind of thing organically. Then there's me, I'm a good swimmer... just unfit.

Good morning!  Please send healthy thoughts my way...starting to feel the crud that is going around...NOOOO!  Took some Airborne and loaded up on vit C this morning.  My prep hour is the last 90 minutes of the day so I may just sneak out and go home and sleep.

Thanks for the input on the bricks...I will carry on with my early morning bike/run workouts!

This is just one company and one source.  There are more.  Google bicycle race training videos.

Thanks Iceman. I'll check it. SO... I managed to get myself into the pool today and it wasn't half bad. My first swim since October, I did a steady 700. I dont know if i'm going to start swim training in earnest yet but I was glad to reconnect with my inner-fish.

Hey everyone,

Sorry for being MIA but work and son's hockey have really been taking up a lot of my time.  Hope everyone is doing ok and will be getting back into the groove in a couple of weeks when things settle down.  On the positive side my son's hockey team won their first tournament this last weekend.

New milestone in running for me today.  8 mile run before work...5:45 am...outside...17 degrees.  I've done all of those before, just never all together.

Congrats to all those hitting other milestones, such as swimming or running new distances or just keeping a steady workout schedule.  It's little steps that eventually will lead you to your goal and beyond.

Oh, and chiming in on the DVD's for the trainer.  I'm actually in one of the Spinervals. It was filmed at a Lifetime Fitness in the Chicago area.  Very fun to be a part of.

Tonight I ran my first four miles & my first hour.  So far this week has been good. A couple of great first. I'm disappointed in my breathing the last ten minutes of my run. I'm thinking about doing a re-do over tomorrow.  Hummmm... Undecided  - Maria

Lots going on around here! Congrats Maria on you swim and run!!! You''re doing awesome

I know I've been MIA around here b/c of work w, and th..... Getting up at 4:30-5am and working 12's, and then trying to workout after is getting to me.... Glad to be off till monday! Also decided to do a little switcheroo.... Don't really like the BT plan I started. I don't think there is enough bike vol, so I'm instead doing the Iron Fit competitive plan and just pick in the week I need too. I like the bike vol in ratio to swim/run. I don't know how to import that plan into my training log though? anyone, anyone??

Happy Friday McFuzzies!  I ended up coming home sick from school yesterday and slept pretty much all day, got up to eat some soup, say hey to my family and back to bed until 4:00am this morning.  Did my 71 minute run+Ab Ripper X and feeling pretty darn good. Thanks for the healthy thoughts!

Congrats on all these great milestones!  It's cool to be a part of everyone successes!

Hey all!  I'm so happy it's finally Friday.  This is the first full week I've had to work since before Christmas and I'm ready for it to be over!  Got a bit of bad news on Wednesday.  My DH's hours have been cut at workFrown.  We knew his employer was having financial issues but they had been told that their dept wouldn't be affected by the cuts.  So either that info was incorrect or they had to make more cuts than originally planned.  It's going to put a dent in our budget and therefore in the amount/types of races I'll be able to do this year.  I may also have to drop my gym membership.  I was only keeping it for the pool access.  I have a TM at home and free access to a gym at work (no pool there though) if I want to do an indoor bike workout.  Hopefully this weather will break soon and I can start riding outdoors.  I know some people ride outside during the winter but I'm just not comfortable with that - I have enough problems when it's warm and sunny out Tongue out!  I think if I stick with small, local tri's with pool swims for this year I'll still be able to do a couple.  I thought about switching to duathlons for this year, but there just aren't that many offered in my area.

So the revised plan for the year is to still try to do both a spring and fall tri, I'll have to cut back a little on the running races that I do, and do more volunteering this year at both tri's and road races.  That way I still get to be there even if I'm not participating.

Ree - good job on the swim and run this week!  Your training is going well!

ingleshteechur - glad you're feeling better.

Have a great weekend all!
