Awesome bike, Andrea!  Is yours the same color as the one in the image?  If so, I LOVE the turquoise!!  I bet you will feel so much more speedy on your road bike over your hybrid!  I also made the switch this year and love feeling the difference!!  Have fun with your new ride!!

Yes, that's the color I'm getting!  There was a red, but I prefer this color.  I've just placed an order for a different seat (returnable if not comfortable) and 2 pairs of capris with shammy.  I only have one pair or tri shorts currently.

I had a non-tri training weekend, but got some garden work done.  Also, got my son (7yrs old) off of the training wheels!  I'm looking forward to group/family rides some time soon.

I counted weeks to my main ("A" race, LOL) tri and it's 18 weeks away.  So I decided to quit "winging it" for now and follow a plan.  I dug up an intermediate sprint plan from trinewbies and will be following it with some adjustments.  I'll plan the swim on my own.  I'll run 4 instead of 3 times a week, just doing the shorter run 2x.  It's mostly a time based plan, until some "speed work" is added in weeks 13-16.  I like the idea of a plan, and hope it will encourage consistancy in my training.

Yea Andrea, on finding a plan!!  I've always followed one for half marathon training, but I find the tri plans don't work well for me... I am way more advanced on the swim stuff, I want to run more than 3x a week, and bike as often as possible, so I just do it on my own.  Seems to be working okay for now... but since I'm only doing Sprints, I think I'm okay, ha ha!  Always good to have a piece of paper to tell you what to do and when to do it, just don't be afraid to mve things around to fit your schedule...

Andrea - nice bike and good luck with your plan!

Sounds like we had some nice races this weekend - great job to everyone.

Mine didn't go so well - DNF.  Details are in my log, but basically I was sick and the weather was just too hot.  I'm not happy, feel like should have tried harder, but don't know that I could have.  Taking the week off from training to re-assess.

Janet, don't worry.  We all have a DNF at some time or another if we do this long enough.  I firmly believe in listening to your body, and glad to hear you followed your instincts.

Andrea, beautiful bike!  I prefer that color over red:-)

Michelle, 2 more months?  Have you looked into any races in southern OH?  We are checking into some in the Cincy area (we live about 1.5 hrs from there)

Melanie, those egotistical cyclists are the ones giving the sport a bad reputation!  Would love to tell those guys to OFF, lol

To Hilde and our other racers- congratulations on some nice races!  Just read Hilde's race report (exciting stuff!) and going to check out the rest.  Heading back to KY tomorrow.  Then, back to work and back to training (minus the running)

Janet, too bad about having to DNF. Sounds like a miserable experience; there was certainly no point in soldiering on!

Wilson, welcome back, ya big perv! I'm getting close to pulling the trigger on Waco, too. Just need to figure out logistics.

I am hobbling about pretty well today, and have a massage scheduled for tomorrow to get things loosened up. And, the race report is up:

Hi everyone!Just finished a run of a different sort: DOUBT closed Saturday night with a sold-out show. It was an amazing production...and utterly exhausting on top of the end of term here. So for the past two weeks I've been on a maintenance/survival plan...back to real training tomorrow. Will see how the marathon goes in about 3 weeks (eek!) to help me decide whether to do the full IM this year, or the half this year and the full IM next year. Right now, I just know I need to catch up on as much sleep as possible! Will update my logs tomorrow; just wanted to stop by and say hi, yes, I'm still alive, and I hope to get caught up on everyone's lives, training, and races soon!Off to bed in a little while,Alex

Alex, congrats on a successful (show) run! That must have been equivalent to pulling off an Ironman while working full-time. Way to go!

I almost forgot to share my favorite part of the marathon: the medal!

And the tail end:

That's actually what got me through the last couple of miles- thinking about getting my precious Flying Pig!

Hey everyone!  Thanks for the support and the inspires after my DNF this past weekend.  I'm feeling better about it - just needed to have a little pity party for a whileSmile.  Now I just need to put it behind me and move forward!  So... I've been looking at races for the fall and there are 4 of them in my area (within about 45 mins drive anyway) between the end of July-middle of August.  They're all sprints with pool swims and similar distances.  I just need to decide which one to do and then get back into trainingSmile

I haven't read everyone's race reports yet.

Janet - took courage to start when you knew you might not finish.

Tammy - nice medal.  Love the back.

Andrea - nice bike!  Jealous.  All this talk about bikes has me thinking I need a new commuting ride (current model is circa 1994).

So here is a question for you all:  Which trisuit to wear this weekend - the mostly black one or the mostly light purple one?  I picked up the purple one recently at a thrift shop.  Have not worn it yet.  The race this weekend is a sprint.

I wouldn't want to wear one I hadn't checked out first, usually with an OWS... so it the black is tried and true, I'd probably go with that one (plus it will match the bike better, ha ha!!)

Hi everyone--

Several of you may be wondering "wait, who is this weirdo who's just sent me an inspire??"-- well, I'm ba-aaack... updated my logs and am getting back on track with the training after two weeks where something had to give while I dealt with the end of term, the show, and a massive case of insomnia. (Seriously: sleep really IS all it's cracked up to be!) So I'm dealing with the aftereffects (largely an elevated HR when running and a major desire to nap whenever I can)-- the marathon on the 27th is still ON, though: chances are I'll do some Galloway walk/run in there, but I WILL get it done! *is determined*

So now I've got to catch up on everyone's doings on the forum before tomorrow's back-to-back final exams, tra la...hope you're all having an excellent week so far!

Alex

Wow, Alex you're on a roll.  I didn't wonder who the weirdo was, I knew, LOL!

I just got my delivery of 2 cycling knickers and a new saddle.  (DH was a bit freaked by the "Team Estrogen" on the box, LOL!)  One pair of knickers is too big!  I used the size chart, but they're loose.  I'll have to return them.  I'll wait until I have my bike and try the seat, as I don't know how that will work out.  In addition, I found a pair of knickers (the type that fit OK) on amazon one size smaller and cheaper and I ordered them.

Do you do your training rides in tri shorts or bike shorts or something else?  My hybrid's seat is cushy and I usually have no problem with regular running or yoga type shorts/pants/capris.

Just got this from Amazon and tried it out... This is what I'm gonna wear... going for just a simple black suit..... that way I'll be undetectable.  Oh yeah and it breathes so the boys don't get overheated.. LMAO

Wilson, it is SO nice to have you back. Things were just so... normal without you!And Andrea, I just always wear bike shorts on my training rides. And I've learned to get away from cushy seats- they can actually create pressure points, pinching, squishing, etc. A firm seat will be very comfy if it fits your hip bones just right. Just ignore that Wilson guy. He's always been a little off.
