Master 1332 Vista, CA | Subject: RE: Yanti & Lynn: Manatee Madness Mentor Group CLOSED kgore - 2012-02-06 8:00 PM My 10k went well, I nearly reached my goal too--I had wanted to make 1:10:00 or less--I came in at 1:10:35-- I'm pretty happy with it over all! This race was a new p.r. by 5 minutes. The race report is up--under the Super Bowl Sunday Run. Of course, today my calves and parts of my quads are SORE!!!! Luckily, I was moved to the carnivore section at work for the day (too many people away at a conference), so I did a lot of walking/bending/raking--and my legs remained mostly loosened up. I know that the use of my minimal shoes contributed to the soreness, I have only ran in them a few times. I knew I wanted to use them though, the energy and stamina difference is amazing....I ran more comfortably yesterday than I ever have before! So my next event is a sprint tri on April 15 (my birthday I know how to celebrate!), so plenty of time to get better with my run, keep up on my bike miles, and acclimate to REALLY cold water! I cant wait. I might be a little late to the party, but BIG CONGRATS to you on the 10K and your PR. And, April 15th is a great day....gave birth to my son that day some 16-nearly 17 years ago. |

April 15th does seem to be a popular day--I swear I have met (or heard about) 50-60 other people with the same birthday.... |

Nice bike! And it's red too! I'm insanely jealous. I was at the local tri shop today picking out my new torture dev... err trainer and drooling over the nice tri bikes they had on display there. I think I should've bought a tri bike instead of the road bike after all. In my year of owning my bike I've done two, TWO, group rides. I just seem to like riding solo better. (Cue Jason Derulo) Yanti, your bike is gorgeous. I took the plunge and signed up for Kansas 70.3!!!! I really wanted to do a HIM this summer but needed to find the right time to do it. Kansas fit in with the schedule. I'm so exited. Time for some serious training. |

Master 7712 Orlando | Subject: RE: Yanti & Lynn: Manatee Madness Mentor Group CLOSED TriAya - 2012-02-07 2:45 PM So it's probably time to check in myself ... (to an institution, really, but the Manatees will do nicely ) As Salty alluded earlier, I am in the midst of Worst Case Scenario training for Ironman Melbourne (March 25) but the good news is that I'm still definitely going to give it a shot. Just getting to stay upright and suck air every day is a huge gift, so no matter what happens in March--what an opportunity and what a party! Just happy to be there! I did do a practice HIM last weekend (it was on my training plan) just to see if I was realistically anywhere in the ballpark of being able to finish, and it went very well. It's still going to be extremely tight, training and time-wise, but this should help a bit: My new tri bike! I'm so excited. I've never owned a new bike and never thought I could afford a decent tri bike, but ... the tri gods conspired otherwise. Did my first ride on it today and it is LIKE BUTTER! The Melbourne bike course is fairly flat and will possibly be quite windy on the return of an out-and-back, so aero is definitely favored. NIce bike! |

Coastal Carolina | Subject: RE: Yanti & Lynn: Manatee Madness Mentor Group CLOSED WOW everyone is kicking it. Yanti- Awesome bike Kate- That's awesome on your 10k time
Was in a funk last week and missed most of my training sessions but going to the pool as soon as I finish typing this to do a workout, actually going to do the drills suggested by "the plan" and a run tonight. Later than I wanted to get going but the wife got a new job yesterday and so made her breakfast for when she got home from night shift, definitely worth a late training day. |

Hope your swim went well and glad you're past your funk! Also, I firmly believe that being a nice giver makes up for at least some training time. I have absolutely no proof of this, but I know it's true! |

Extreme Veteran 525 | Subject: RE: Yanti & Lynn: Manatee Madness Mentor Group CLOSED Day 2 called for a 24minute run and the 48minute bike I didn't do yesterday. The run time is actually shorter then my normal runs already. Not sure if I should just keep running my own "short" runs or stick with the program. In any case I used this as an opprotunity to see if I could run my normal route in the time alotted. I didn't. Ha. Though I wasn't expecting to. Did set a new training PR for me though.
Got on the new trainer at lunch. GOOD GRIEF do these things suck! I think I dislike this more than the dreadmill. Necessary evil I guess (and I do mean evil). |

Actually you could just keep doing your runs until the plan 'catches up' ... Good on you for getting on the "drainer." I put on DVDs and let my circus-head go to town ... the time passes by quicker than I think! I actually got 4.5 hours in last Saturday ... looking at 5 this weekend. Yikes! |

Expert 866 | Subject: RE: Yanti & Lynn: Manatee Madness Mentor Group CLOSED Just checking in.. Only 4 more night shifts at the hospital, then I can resume more of a normal life. Hope everyone is doing well. Next week I go to Park City Utah to snowboard, and attend a conference. Has anyone been there? Know of any good pools out there? I suspect with all the snowboarding I won't have too much energy left at the end of the day. |

Veteran 940 Citrus Heights, CA | Subject: RE: Yanti & Lynn: Manatee Madness Mentor Group CLOSED Sorry, cant help you--never been to Utah, and I've never been snowboarding...Mainly due to my nasty habit of getting really hurt any time I set a toe into the snow! I got a swim and run in tonight---both slow, but a decent amount of time and mileage on each. I can only hope my ankles/legs/feet will finally stop aching. I did get some weight lifting in (kinda)--I moved a 50 pound snake out of her exhibit and into a tank situated above my head...the moving also involved standing, crouching, and nearly crawling through her exhibit. Friday, I get to tear down the exhibit--including (but not limited to) removing tree trunk sized limbs, tearing down a box attached to the wall 8 feet off the floor, and breaking some cemented in rocks off of a pool side. I do admit, this is one of my more favorite things to do at my job. I LOVE tearing down and building new exhibits! Its like making art and doing interior design for the animals. |

You might not have the energy for a "workout" swim, but it might feel really nice to get into a warm pool and stretch things out! Great to look forward to a trip like that! Hope there's some fresh powder for you. |

I actually started using audible.com and listen to audiobooks on the trainer, I'm a certified book geek bought the original kindle when it was first released, but it is an awesome way for me to get the ride in, I also use it for my commute to work so if I have a ride after work it helps because I want to continue listening
2 days 2 pool work outs, I forgot how much I enjoy swimming, now if I can get up to make it to masters swimming... Long run and the rescheduled bike fit for me |

I have no idea about a specific pool in Utah but I HAVE spent a LOT of time snowboarding. It kind of depends on your ability level and what kind of riding you are doing (backcountry? Heavy snow? Groomers?) but in general, I imagine you will be pretty wiped and won't really be able to do a quality workout. From what I understand there is no point in swimming if it's not quality since swimming is so technique-heavy. |
