Regular 1777 Auckland, North Island | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN A tick over 9 hours for the week for me, Swim, Nothing, my local lap pool was closed. Bah Bike, x 4, 5 hours 40 Run, x3, 3 hours 22. Had a great bike on Sunday, about 66km in 2 hours 40 on the single speed. The speed was not brilliant (I'm sure some of that will fix itself when I eventually get around to recommissioning the race bike and have a selection of gears again), but my effort felt good, in control and consistent. The fact it was a beautiful sunny morning, not too cold but not hot, and only a likght breeze didn't hurt how I felt about things tho. Gretchen Good job on hitting all your workouts. And nice to hear yo enjoyed your new toy. Mike Well done on your biggest ever cycling month. Nathalie I tend to agree that Sweden has done well. My view is in a few years when we look back at how the world handled this Sweden and no lock downs are probably going to be the winner. Keep up the recovery, numbers will be back up before you know it. |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN Rest day here. So, naturally, I'll be spending the afternoon doing yard work. Maybe, just maybe, I'll take my dog for another stimulating 0.2mi walk in a resounding 20 min time. I shouldn't joke, she is recuperating and healing, but man, those walks are interminable! |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN Hour bike with 10’ intervals at FTP, which sounds ok until you try it. I did a ramp test on Tuesday last week and my ftp went up 9 watts since the last test. New ftp nearly killed me...or maybe it was the yard work yesterday. Anyway, followed up with a 30’ run in the afternoon. That felt good—enjoying some beautiful fall weather. |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN 45’ run this morning in the dark. This is the time of year I like to go running early in the morning. You start out in the dark and by the time you’re finished it is light out and it’s cool, but not bone chilling cold. Give it a couple of months and I’ll come home from a run in the dark too. Ugh. |

There's something very satisfying about being finished with your workouts for the day when the rest of the house is waking up... And of course dodging the heat is a winner too. Hate getting out of bed tho. Never regretted doing a run if I do force myself up, but it can be a struggle. |

Regular 1777 Auckland, North Island | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN Solid if unspectacular first half of the week for me. They've finished their maintenance so I have been back to the pool for 1 swim, 2 60 minute indoor rides (1 easy and 1 cruise intervals) and 2 runs 1 easy, 1 fast finish. This weekends long bike has been postponed due to Mrs Bullfrogs birthday, So I'll likely do a longish (90min or so) indoor ride Friday night. Will still run long Saturday but Sunday will be a day off. Hope everyone is having a good productive week. |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN Thursday and Friday I did four training sessions totaling more than four hours in less than 24 hours. It came down to bad timing around a bunch of work obligations, but it worked out. I didn’t get injured, at least. Now I’m enjoying an extra rest day this week, which I feel I need! |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN Today was a pretty awful 60’ run that actually ended up being a walk after 30’. I honestly don’t know what was happening, but my hr would just not stay down in Z2. Even walking, I was in high Z2. I was feeling a little off yesterday, so I really hope I’m not getting sick. |

That happened to me on Saturday, had a virtual group ride that was mostly sweet spot riding but it pegged my heart rate. I did one sprint and it maxed my HR and it was really difficult getting it back down. It happens - stay well! |

Expert 4920 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN Day off for me after a good week with two hard cycling sessions, two swims, and long hike, and a crap ton of strength, yoga, and core work. About five more weeks of this "off season" work then I start base training for 2021. |

Expert 4920 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN Forgot to mention I added some fins to my swimming toy basket. Speedo Biofuse fins. First, there are like a hundred different kinds of swim fins. These are pretty hard and designed for strength training, and I felt it in my ankles for sure. I did notice some better kicking form immediately after using them as I think they're training those muscles that flex your foot straight out, which I'm horrible at. Gotta be careful not to overdo it. |

Good job on 4 sessions over 2 days. But this raises an interesting question for me, what do you guys think is better for recovery, 1 session a day and spreading the load more evenly across the week. Or a couple of doubled up days so more work on day 1, but total rest on day 2? As my weekly hours are starting to get up I'm thinking I should rearrange things so I have a day totally off every week. Interested in your thoughts? |

Regular 1777 Auckland, North Island | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN Well the rest of the week went as planned. 8 1/2 hours total for the week S: x 1, 30 min, 1250m B: x 5, 4hr 30 min R: x 3, 3 hr 30 min And a day off on Sunday for Mrs Bullfrogs birthday. Followed up with a 2nd day in a row off on Monday first time I've had 2 days off in a row since June. I feel like a sloth. Due to my day off Sunday, I'm running my 'rest week' Sunday - Saturday this time around, rather than a calendar week. So will be doing a 3 hour ride Sunday. But the rest of the week is going to be on the light side. Have a good week every one. |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN Bullfrog—I ALWAYS want at least one day completely off. I’ll do doubles every day of the week (different sports), but I need a full day off at some point, even if just for sanity. |

Having the full day off is a good reset button and gives the schedule some flexibility, though I try really hard not to infringe on that unless the rest of the week is a disaster. |

Regular 1777 Auckland, North Island | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN I don't mind doing doubles, but logistically with the little man it can be tough. Follow up question, would you count any 24 hour period as a day off, or does it have to be a calendar day? For example I will often do a Sunday morning workout, and then nothing till Monday afternoon. Around 30 hours later. In my mind, that counts as having a break (which may be why I've been so tired recently. haha) |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN 45’ run here today. Nothing spectacular, but done and I enjoyed it, so that’s something. Andrew-that’s a good question. For me, it is more a mental thing, that I need a day I can have nothing scheduled. I’ve tried timing my workouts like you described, and I didn’t find it working for me. I do, however, sometimes do my workouts a different points in the day as you described, to take advantage of extra recovery. |
