The visit will be fine. The dog is driving me crazy. I have enough issues without adding a dog into the mix.

I will not stay in another relationship where an animal(s) is more important than me. And taking in strays says essentially that.

I do sympathize, Scott. But it isn't so black and white as that. She has a tender heart. It's one of the reasons you love her.

Yes, it was a mistake to take him in, and probably you guys have not invested the time or effort in properly training him because you assumed he'd be gone by now. And for sure, living with an untrained dog is a holy terror. It's a very difficult situation and I don't envy you.

I will say that very basic training and confinement measures will go a long way towards making the time being with him bearable, AND it will make him eminently more adoptable, which is really what you guys need.

There's no place at all, no no-kill shelter, that you can take him to?

x2    Untrained dogs are a nightmare, but with consistent proper training dogs will (and do) learn.

One of her friends who has a pet sitting business has given us a crate. I keep telling her he NEEDS to be crated during the day... she only works a mile away so its easy to come home for lunch and let him out to relieve himself. And then at night, he needs to be crated ALL night.

Yeah, the first couple of nights it will be hell - he'll whimper and cry and not like it - but he'll learn to NOT go in the crate/house and he won't be able to tear anything up if he's crated.

Look, the issues are more than just the dog, though... I got dragged to the damn hippie food co-op tonight. I am NOT a hippie. And California is getting ready to raise taxes through the roof. Its just too g-d liberal here and I don't like that.

I think that I have been to that Co-op.  My loony grandma shops there sometimes.  It smells funny-all the soaps, lotions, and stuff of that sort.

He could even be left in a bathroom with the crate door open and treats in it, and he's a little dog ... you could get a small (1 ft square) grass box, and it's treated with stuff that makes dogs like to go on it (and be rewarded for doing so).

No reason crate has to be hell. It shouldn't. If you put treats and toys and comfy doggy things in there, he'll learn to like his crate. Safe.

No way a dog should be allowed to roam free. Even my own dog gets confined when we're gone or at night (unless she's sleeping with me).

But anyways, if these are things the Blonde is not willing to do, the issue is not the dog.

And it sounds like there are other things going on where the issue is definitely not the dog.

Have you spent much time in Seattle lately??

Come up in about 6 months and see the solstice parade...if you are into nude bicyclists.  They aren't quite as nude as they use to be...the police require questionable areas to be covered up/disguised with....body paint.

I can understand why she wants to go... they don't load up stuff with artificial sweeteners... but... its the uberliberalism that costs way too much money and drags everyone down into the class of the poor that bothers me. Its socialism and leftism at its very worst at the co-op.

I end up going to co op type stores-trader joes and such.  It is hard to get much gluten free dairy free food at a basic grocery store.

anyway...good night.

So far today, swim, laundry, chores. About to break for lunch after I give the house a quick dusting and vacuuming. Then it's packaging up grapes and other stuff to take to school for the kiddos Christmas parties. I am digging this not lifeguarding thing Oh and I met up with some of the "regular" swimmers and we are planning to swim together to help push each other. We were all excited that I could do that since I can be in the water instead of on deck

Hi Nibbs.  Last night was Andy's Christmas party.  We won a Wii Fit.  I am tired.  Have to pack so I can leave early tomorrow.  I'm not very excited about that, but whatever.  Hopefully there is not too much snow on the way home.
