armckenzie - 2012-05-10 1:58 PM please correct me if i am wrong, but isn't athlete check-in only on wed and thur? i have a friend that has a conflict and needs to know if she should drive down wednesday to get her stuff and come back friday. thanks for the help!

She should be able to check in on Wed, and come back on Friday as long as she's back in time to check in her bike and bags per the scheduled times.

x2, the only two mandatories are sign in Wed or Thurs and drop off bike on Friday so should be no problem

Just like last year. People are going to scramble just incase (keep me a large full to the side please). And the nights are supposed to get cooler next week.

looking at different locations on the bike course...woodlands has 8mph projected wind while the most northern part has only 4mph. I would LOVE this to be the case.

On a side note, does anyone know where to buy "perform" in a bottle (premade) and not a mixable powder in the houston area? Have never had it before and interested in its taste before I get it on the bike ride.

Aero helmet or no aero helmet? I've never ridden 112 miles with an aero helmet. If it's going to be 90 degrees I might sacrifice some aero for some more ventilation. Plus the ability to pour water over my head.

Light winds please!!!! Laughing

I've never trained in wetsuit (don't own one), but now am wondering how the water will be. My team here in Fort Worth is holding a swim-race tomorrow at Benbrook Lake and I was not going to participate because it is at 7:30 a.m. and the water is somewhat cool and I've been fighting an Upper Respiratory Infection for 2 weeks - don't want to relapse so close to race and worried I could catch a chill tomorrow morning. Seeing that water in the Woodlands has dropped to 78 - I don't know what to think. My coach is offering to get a wetsuit for me to use and try out in tomorrow's swim-race. Kind of late in the game, but should I try it out?

Thoughts? I didn't plan on using one in the Woodlands...should I rethink? First IM, too

Gracias!

If its an option that you may use the suit then definitely go swim in it. You still have a week of recovery to kick the rest of your cold. Even if you get a short wetsuit swim would be beneficial to help make your decision

. You can always contact the RD, there is a "late" check in that I've seen people use before but you need to go through the proper people to get the info.

For me after doing some tests the wetsuit is really not worth the 10 min. IMO

The time dif. for me was about 8 min faster with the suit but I was really hot (76).

On the other hand the suit floats you pretty well. In my suit if I get tired I can roll over and float on my back and rest.

There are pros and cons both ways I think. I also had some issue with the tightness of the suit when I first started with one. I don't think I would want Ironman dist. swim to be my first or second time in a suit.

Just my 2 cents

My first wetsuit swim was my first HIM and first 200-300 meters was quite challenging. I got overheated right away and felt like I could not breath easily. I calmed down after a while. Hence, I would *not* recommend you to use one after this point.

There will be some at ironman village and you can visit the bike shops across the street and north of the woodlands. Last year academy carried, but I can not tell you I have noticed it lately. I need to get a few as well before the end of next week.

Just picked up rental race wheels from Bike Barn. I had ordered 808s and they delivered 1080s. In for a penny, in or a pound as us Brits say - I just hope the wind isn't REALLY bad. I am weighing in at 184 so hopefully there is enough of me to hang on! My CD01 does look cool with them on!

TriPatrick - 2012-05-09 6:52 PMMy son has pre-k graduation at 9:30 so I will miss breakfast. last year a few of us sat at a table together at the Thursday dinner. If anyone wants we can do that as well.
I'm in for the Thursday night meet up too.
I fly in thursday night. I am not sure I can meet up but if people are doing anything friday I would like to meet some fellow BTs. As for my training here. The sun is finally out and the 40 days and 40 nights have passed here in seattle. Noah is expected to unload this weekend. To bad my bike is already in route to the race or I would love to ride it when the sun is out.

How late are you flying in on Thursday? There is no Athlete check in on the schedule for Friday... Hope you get here in time to check in on Thursday

Thanks for the heads up. I can't believe I almost missed that detail. Somewhere in my world I though I could pickup my packet on friday. I changed my flight for a day earlier. Crisis averted. Now just dealing with work to get another day off. My boss was not happy about it.
