I had a chance to ride the full 112 mile IMLOU bike course on Saturday.  Overall, I thought the course was nice, though there was a fair amount of traffic on parts of it.

There was a steady head wind on 42 heading back toward the transition area.  That got kind of old after awhile, especially the second time around.   The toughest part of the ride for me (and for a couple others I was with) was the hill on 42 leading up to the turn onto Wolf Pen Branch Rd.  Make sure to save some gas for that one!

So we're in the last few weeks before taper & I am starting to really focus on race day gear. My question for you IMKY vets is: Did you and/or will you wear an aero helmet on race day. I've worn mine during 2 70.3's this year with no problems, but nothing with extreme heat.

Had a great couple of days of training. Got in a 2 mile continuous pool swim on Saturday. 75 miles yesterday and averaged 19.2 and then got up at 4:30 this morning and ran 16.75. Feeling pretty good. Next week I should be up near 90 miles! Looking forward to it.

I didn't wear one last year, but just bought one and will wear it.  :-)

I'm still thinking.  If it's mid 80's I'm wearing it, but if its mid 90's like last year... I'm not sure.

Funny thing is that Mike Reilly is still going to be there......I "spoke" to him yesterday via e-mail.....and he continues to tell me that he will see us all in Louisville.  Not sure whether it is a right-hand/left-hand deal or what but Mike says he will be there.......

I know this has been discussed - but I am still debating the wheel choice. I am a fairly strong cyclist and was going to run a disc/1080 combo - but now am considering eith a disc/404 or 404's all around. Any insight would help - Thanks

I debated an aero helmet but decided its no fun looking fast and going slow.  I hate to be the girl with the tri bike, race wheels & aero helmet and averaging 14mph on the bike. ha!
I am wearing a spuik helmet that is super ventilated and hot pink!
Training is kicking up for me finally.  Long bike this week at 5 hours, hoping for 80 miles.  Long run this week 3 hours, shooting for 15 miles.  Long swim is tonight and I will do 3000 yards.  I also have 2 (1.5 hour rides, one tempo/one easy spin), 2 runs (1 hour 15 min tempo, 1 hour easy), 1 swim set of about 2,500 yards)
Hope everyone has a great week!

ok... weekly total...

S: 12300 yd (3:50)

B: 211.6 mi (11:58)

R: 24.7 mi (3:35)

I know it's been discussed at least 2x here re: cassette size... but what about those of us who have a compact crank (I've got a 50x34)?  I'm riding the 12-23 that came stock on my bike, which is ok until I hit steeper stuff... I'm a mediocre cyclist... not sure if the "hills" near me are steeper than what I'll find in KY or if I should swap for a 12-25 for race day.

Got an aero skid lid and will wear it, it's just part of my normal race gear at this point.......

Now my decision (and it may not happen until race morning) is going to be rear wheel.....if the forecast is for rough crosswinds, I might skip the disk and do a Hed Jet 90 instead.......

I'm 165 @ race weight, looking @ 18 mph and I'm running a H3 and Jet Disc.

It's the front wheel that will affect your handling.  So run the disc.

Not finding the moment yet to do long rides/runs... but I'm trying to be consistent on training everyday... I'm soooooo afraid July is almost GONE!... last week's total:

Bike: 5h 40m - 105 miles
Run: 4h 30m - 30 miles
Swim: 2h - 5000 yards

hence: I have done in a week what I will be doing in one day.... someone explains me how that's possible... lol

Feel for you Mike.  I went down and lost my IM in 2007.  Never done the hip, but a few other bones.  I'm guessing the hip really su*ks.
But hey, at least you can eat whatever you want and not worry about getting up early for rides and runs.

I rode in the rain on Thursday and was sure I was going down (and had no brakes).  Scary stuff.
Hit a huge hole on Saturday and went off the front of the aerobars, but somehow the bike stayed upright and I rode out of it.  A training partner went down on his ride and lost some bike paint, but nothing too painful.

Everyone be extra careful out there.  Making the start-line is sometimes the hardest thing to an IM.

Last Week:
Swim: 2 hrs - 5k meters
Bike: 6.5 hours - 125 miles
Run: 4 hours - 25 miles
Need to shorten that from 7 days to 13 hours.

Going out for 12 more on the shoes now.
