Hi Leah - I think the ride sounds like fun. Especially since you won't be worried about falling behind.  Im looking at running tonight on the treadmill. This weekend will be biking and running.

OK how sad is this..I get on the scale today and it says 225.6..  I look at myself in the mirror and go..yep..I am damn good looking.. a little here and there and I will be ripped.   4 months ago when I hit 225 after being 218 I thought I was the most obese person in the world.  At least it is a positive number this time though.

It's all relative. I remember when I was 150 (which is now my GOAL weight) in HS I thought I was quite heavy and fat. When we are used to being heavier any lighter weight usually feels good. You'll be back to 218 and less in no time.

I didn't do the spin class yesterday after work like I had planned. Towards the end of the day I had an overwhelming feeling of fatigue so I skipped it and went to my running store debating whether to even run or not. Saw a friend that's done an IM and many tri's and he said he'd run with me. Great! I wanted to get out there while there was still light. Only did 2.5 miles but it was very windy and COLD!!!

Today I did the Cardioball class here at the job gym. My legs, arms and abs are feeling it! Tonight I'm going out to dinner with a friend from running since it's Restaurant Week here in Baltimore so we're going to a restaurant I've been wanting to try. $35 for 3 courses...not bad. Ate at The Capital Grille for that same bargain too! Tomorrow is weigh in day at Weight Watchers. I was up to 222 when I weighed in last weekend..up 7 pounds from my last weight on here! But I know I've lost this week, I've been eating more consciously, less chocolate, more fruit, etc. So I'm feeling better about that plus I've already worked out 5 times this week!

Tomorrow after Weight Watchers, if there isn't snow on the ground we're running at 8am. Hopefully get 3-4 miles in then I'll go for a swim if I can!

IdealMuse - 2010-01-29 9:06 AM Leah - Did you join the tri club or just riding with them? 12-15 sounds like a good speed to start off with and you'll be able to gauge if you need to go with the faster group next time. I want to do some rides with my club too this Spring but except for something they call the muffin run they aren't doing the outdoor rides yet (too cold here) My plans today are: Run (getting on treadmill now) today and get on the trainer because I seem to be avoiding it! Tomorrow is swim class (the tri-club one not Ironman that doesn't start until next Friday) I'm doing much better this week. Hope everyone is well. Sounds like everyone is gearing back up after sickness and whatnot. Rough month for many of us!

I actually joined the tri club about a year ago, but most of their stuff is on the westside and I am east and so they aren't very convenient.  I have already paid for the club membership with discounts off of races, so it has been worth it that way.

This ride starts at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena and IS convenient.  I am kind of glad that it will be a slower ride for my first ride outside in a long time.  Remember, according to my bike computer, my trainer rides have been at the equivalent of over 20 miles per hour.  It is definitely time for a reality check.

I had been planning on going out to Pacific Coast Highway, among the most beautiful places on the planet to ride, on Saturday, but (speaking of not being convenient) it takes an hour drive each way to get there.  I am planning on riding my bike to the Rose Bowl for the extra mileage.  So, it's lots closer and won't use any gas, etc., etc.

And I really do relate to avoiding the trainer.  I wait until the last possible moment to get on it at night.

I'm back.  I've had very little sleep in the past 3 days.  Two long days of work and one long night of book club.  I'm hittin' the sack and hopin' for a better week!

What book did you read for book club?  My book club meeting is Sunday and we read The Help.

Hope you got some good sleep.

I'm about to get up and make breakfast and then off for my bike ride.

Have a good day everyone!

I think the original poster has left the thread I don't know if she has done or is still training for an HIM but there are about 10 of us here who have kept it alive and sort of use it as our own unofficial mentor group.

You're not crazy, that was the next logical step.  You will be ready for it Judi, you have been training consistently with volumes similar to those of a HIM.

Congrats!

Went to weight watchers yesterday and I'm down 2.2..FINALLY!!! So I'm at 219.8...long way to go but I'll concentrate on it for a few months then I'll stick to training and not worry about my weight so close to the HIM.

Going to swim some laps today and do some elliptical and stair climbing then figure out what I'm doing for the week and plan. Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Planning on picking out a training plan from a book I have from Inside Triathlete.  It has about 8 levels of training plans for each distance race.  I have used their oly plans with pretty good success.

Can't afford private coaching.  I do have a swim coach but he's employed by the gym and I have his services during the school year only.  His regular job is a year round coach for a kids competitive league so once the kids are out of school their training moves to mornings and the gym loses him.  Last summer the gym did find us someone to fill in for most of the summer.  I'm hoping they can do that again, makes keeping consistent swim improvements possible....

I agree.  You're not crazy.  You have plenty of time to train and you have a terrific base already.

We have varying degrees of coaching represented in this little group and not sure how genuinely necessary it is, unless you are trying for the podium.  I have a bike coach and I don't feel like  have gotten $275 per month worth of value out of it and am not certain I am going to continue after the HIM.  I might just go self-coached for Arizona.  I really wish I had gone with Jorge's winter cycling program rather than the bike coach, but it hadn't been announced when I started with my coach.

I swim with a local masters group and the coach will give advice or whatever if I ask, but seldom anything unsolicited.  I love swimming in the 50 meter pool and so I'm not giving that up.

And I really can't see not doing a local race.

Good luck with your training for it.

I would love to have them, if you think they would be something I would be able to follow without whatever feedback and support Jorge offered throughout this program.  I have heard that the workouts were very tough and very tough is what I will need for the IM.  Do you think following his program (beginning after my HIM on March 27) would be be good IM training (IM Arizona on November 21)?

Also, were they power-based?  Right now I don't have a power meter, but I am intending to get a tri bike, aero bars, power meter and Garmin 310XT in April (again, all things after the HIM on March 27).

He had the ;onks posted so that there was a power meter based and RPE/HRM based program.  Same set, just phrases it differently for the wattage AI think.  I did real well keeping up until about week 5.  THen I had to send the HRM in for repair and got sidetracked.  Plus I started building for  another half mary.

His workout is probably good for building power leading into your IMAZ event.  Is that course fairly flat?  That would be my assumption for the location but I know AZ has some beautiful mountains as well.....

I understand most of them that I did....I will admit that I didn't quite understand all of it!

Hi Queen - Welcome to our little group! You're not crazy but I'm not sure our opinion isn't biased either. Hehe.

Jorge's winter trainer program is still posted on his blog not only this years but last years as well. Sadly I only go through to week 6 and now I have to drop it completely because of my "real" training starting this coming week. It's a good program. It's hard but I never got to the really killer parts. I did see improvement even though my weeks were all spaced apart.

2010 mileage challenge - I have a feeling Leah you're leading the pack. I'm trailing behind quite a bit. I'll have to post my mileage after I finish entering today's workouts but I'm at like half of what you did. It was not one of my stellar months... but this month should make up for some.

Should we make a spreadsheet for each month or something?

Tried an experiment tonight making at latte with coconut and hazelnut milk. It's a little odd. I'll have to play with it some more. I've never made lattes without real milk before. The hazelnut isn't exactly paleo as it has some sugar in it.

I've done a good job recording my food and calories all week. I'm pretty proud I finally was able to get back on track. I dumped a bunch of water weight too so I'm only 4lbs more then my low-weight. In a few weeks we should see new numbers from me.

Hope we all have a better month this month!

There's my January totals.  Keep in mind I have a half marathon next weekend so my running has been off the hook.  I need a swim desperately but my gym was closed all weekend for the snowstorm.  Next month I need to get more bike hours built up for my century ride in May.

I'm on the list.  http://www.ironmanusa.com/participants/lists/10arz.html  Hurrah.

The vast majority of the participants are from California.  I wish there was a way to sort the list so I could see how many people there were in W 50-54.

The Ford Ironman 70.3 seems to have turned into the Rohto Ironman 70.3.  57 days to go.  Sort of sets off a panic reaction.  I'm sitting here wondering if I really need a rest day tomorrow and maybe I ought to get a run in.  No.  I need a rest day with no s/b/r - Crossfit is OK.  I get a little twitchy if I miss Crossfit.

January's totals:  (243 miles
Bike:12h 56m 16s  - 200.34 Mi
Run:7h 47m 55s  - 42.7 Mi

Here are my totals.  Not the best b/c of of no swimming and all my rest days.  Swim starts hard core this week. I can sleep on my shoulder now so I'm going to give it a try.  I also plan on doing another Half Mary before my HIM so hopefully my mileage will go up.

Today I did a 40 mile ride with some small climbs.  I feel pretty good about it.  I actually out biked one of the guys who was with us.  This really made me see the improvement I have made over the winter.  I got a message from an Arizona guy who is doing the CA70.3.  He invited me to do some climbing and OWS with him.  Very nice.  I hope to take him up on it.  Hubby thinks we should do a 60 mile ride this week to see where I am at.  I hope it works out.

Queenie - Hope you stay with us!!  We are a nice crew with a lot of NUTSO folks who think they can do a HIM or IM.  You can totally do this.  Leah and I are the first ones up to attempt the HIM.  Wish us luck!!

Leah - I'm officially freaked out.  8 weeks until the race.  I can't believe it is here already.  I didn't look at the link yet but will soon.

Debb - I bet you are stoked to "officially" start your training.  I think this is just what you need to get fired up again.  Can't wait to hear what your coach has you doing.

Keely - Great work outs!  Sounds like you are getting fired up for your race.  BELIEVE ME, it will be here before you know it.

Lisa - I haven't signed up for the race yet but hope to do it this evening.  I'm pretty excited you will be doing with it with me.

Kiri - Things going ok??  Looks like you have got some biking in!  You needed some nice weather!

Scott - What's up?  Things looking up there?

Elke?  Are you around??
