If you have been riding a road bike then this course will be faster on that for sure. Like someone else said though...Ride what you've been riding. It takes me 2-3 weeks to get adjusted to my road bike after i've been riding my tri bike for a long time. Tri bikes are only better when you have flats or at least fast downhills with flats after that you can hold you speed. This course only has one area that a tri bike will be faster and that is the last 5 miles. Slightly downhill and fast. |

For those who did KS this year, how are your expecting times to look in comparison? Hard to compare I would imagine with a harder bike but probably easier run (no hills at all). I hope temps will be cooler than KS. That being said I am ready and feel real good. Had a great long swim yesterday splitting 1:26/100. Best I have swam all year. Swim - same duh lol...bike will be quite a bit slower i think. I averaged right at 21mph at kansas and ill be happy with something between 19-20 on this course. Run should be a little faster i think. There won't be that moster hill coming back from the boat dock like we had to run twice at kansas. It's pretty flat. Overall i'd say 10-20 min slower. Especially because the kansas run course was like 0.8 miles short. |

When you make the turn around for the second loop of 465, I am assuming this is a full loop of the 465 section, which adds a third time of the 2 mile section that leads to 248. Is this an accurate statement? |

I would kill for some taper...im training straight through for ironman Florida. So I'll bike 100 miles and run 25 not including the race. Not to mention I have been feeling the last few weeks in my legs lately. Won't be my fastest 1/2 or the funest for me. Racing a 1/2 on tired legs is never much fun. |

If they drop the thermometer deep enough, it will be cold enough. We were in Branson over July 4th and learned that the lake temperature near the bottom averages around 55 degrees year round. Love going to Branson. I am planning on this being my first 70.3 in a few years. |

The water temp has been dropping every day for this entire time. Right now the Est. Water Temp is listed as 73 degrees. If they do the "official" temperature check at 4 AM like they did for KS it will be wetsuit legal. Like a previous post stated, if they drop the line low enough they will hit the cooler water. |

Expert 1566 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Branson : Official Thread Just a reminder that USAT wetsuit rules state: "When the water temperature is greater than 78 degrees, but less than 84 degrees Farenheit, age group participants may wear a wet suit at their own discretion, provided however that participants who wear a wetsuit within this temperature range shall not be eligible for prizes or awards. Age group participants shall not wear wet suits in water temperatures equal to or greater than 84 degreees Farenheit." The chances that the water temp will be 84 or higher ar pretty low and the chances of me winning my age group are even lower maybe even no existant, so if I was a betting man I would wager pretty high that I will be wearing my wetsuit on Sunday  |

Not sure if they are 100% percent accurate but it helped me visualize what was going on. The run is actually about 3.25 laps as you will pass the T2 start area 3 times then finish in front of the fountains or something on the boarwalk. From my calculations we should pass about 17 aid stations on the run and 5 on the bike. I then added all the aid staion and mile info. Like I said I don't thin kit iexact but it gives you the idea. You can find tracking info at www.ironman.com and just click on race result/runner tracking. Somebody also made this You Tube video driving the bike course which I found somewhat helpful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6uFXX6mmDg Good luck this weekend!! With 80s and 90s in the forecast, it is looking like a non-wetsuit swim. Being a WTC race the temp needs to be 76 or lower to be wetsuit legal. JPM This rule confuses a lot of people. The WTC rule reads "Wetsuits may be worn in water temperatures up to and including 24.5 degrees Celsius/76.1 degrees Fahrenheit. Athletes who choose to wear a wetsuit in water temperatures exceeding 24.5 degrees C /76.1 degrees F will not be eligible for awards, including World Championship slots. Wetsuits will be prohibited in water temperatures greater than 28.8 degrees C/84 degrees F." So if temps are in the 76 - 84 range, age groupers can still wear a wet suit. If you do, you're still an official participant. If you finish the race, you're an official finisher and you still get whatever stuff is handed out at the finish line (hat / shirt / finisher medal / water bottle). What you don't get is the chance to win a Clearwater spot or one of the awards for finishing at the top of your age group. For 90% of us, are either of those things issues? |
