Alright, mid week 3 I believe, and beginning of the year.  How about everyone check in?  Let us know any issues you are running into or short terms you have met.

I got back in the pool, headed thereagain today.  Actually didn't feel as bad as I thought it would for how long I have been out.  Plan was to get up in am to run but sheet of ice outside and I don't have Yak's.  Might have to turn to the treadmill.

Well the weather in Rhode Island sucks this week leading to two very uninspiring runs...I am boycotting treadmills. The pool and drainer have been pretty great. I am sure that I will be wearing out my copy of Kona DVD.

If anyone has considered getting a SwiMp3 player (Finis), I HIGHLY recommend picking one up. Makes the long swims go by pretty quickly.

The weather does suck and so does running on a treadmill but it's a great mental challenge. Looks like I just hit my first snag in ramping up the training, I got word today that I fractured my thumb. I play keeper for an indoor soccer team so I guess I'm done with that for a while. I don't know yet what impact it'll have on swim and bike training until I meet with an ortho doc. Hopefully it'll be a few weeks of delay, but until then I'll just ramp up the runs....

It's a small world / I now have a coach / swim times / Heartrate (road vs. treadmill)

1.) During my team cycling camp my "coach (head of the team-not really a coach)" said that a head cycling coach of a the best junior squad in St. Louis (think some of his kids did fairly welll in nationals / some went on to be professionals) was coming to talk to us kids.  Turns out he was my soccer coach for 5 years.  I then saw him again at local 5k race.

2.) Now the same person is now willing to coach me "woot woot" for a fraction of the cost of a real coach ($0).  We talked for an 1hr last night and he is going set me up a dandy plan.  Said I can call him up whenever I wanted to talk and he is willing to check out some of my data from edge 305 and forerunner 305.

3.) After my session with a real tri coach (for swimming) and my second swim time since my vacation I came within 15 secs of a PR.  I will break it tomorrow.

4.) I have always thought that running on the treadmill is harder (at least it feels harder).  On my 5 miler that I posted about, I had a 195 avg HR (thought that was high compared to my cycling HR) but today when I did a work out at about 2'30" slower and worked up to 1' slower my avg HR was about 178.  SOO from this data I can finally tell myself that treadmill running is really no harder on my body (maybe on mind) than road running.

NavyTRIChief ---- That's my Update --- Tell me what you think (if you want to and you are really bored right now and waiting for someone to post.  You had better refresh your browser.

I just added today's workout in my log...For me it's detailed so if you want to you can check it out.  I know it was not very long.  Just easing back in after vacation.

Congratulation's on getting that coach, now we know we can expect more from you on here. No slacking kiddo! Sounds like you have an exciting road in front of you, and look forward on seeing some results!

Happy training.

I have been doing OK as far as weight lifting but really need to make sure I get my run, bike, and swim in. The temp has made biking almost ompossible. The good news is that I will get my trainer back soon. I am planning on altering the P90X workouts and replacing the cardio and plyametrics with more tri-specific work. I am planning on running or swimming after work today. I really need to get back in the habbit of hitting the pool or road every morning. My bed has just gotten so comfortable.

I am, how is everyone else? I noticed a lot of logs still looking very light here, let's get it moving team, we need to keep our link on the first page, and not the second page.

I know you all can do it, so lets get a lot of training in this weekend tri-mates!

Keep it up?

How is everyone else doing here, we are one heck of a quiet group!

I think we are in the same boat! I'm saddened at his speed. I though I was doing better, guess we always have work to do.

Keep up your good work, we will all do very well this year.

Four years ago I was 32 and thought that I should be faster than everyone older than me because I was younger. I soon realized that there were people who train harder and are in better shape based on their other daily activities. Then I thought I should be faster than those younger than me. I soon realized that when I get passed and look at the age on their calf I never have a good reason for why it is OK. I also would make excuses like they have a better bike. I now realize that the only component that they had was a better engine and a better plan.

We can all do amazing things once we believe in ourselves. When I run with someone else I tend to run farther. When I bike with a group I tend to ride at a faster pace. Even in a spin class I go at a higher cadence and a higher gear than I do if it is me on a trainer. Last year I started racing without my watch and did so much better. I was spending a lot of energy looking at how fast each mile was and was I ahead or behind pace. Now I just race my race based on how I feel. It is so easy to get tied to numbers and forget about enjoying the events.

It also helps me to tell someone what I am planning on doing. If someone thinks I am going to run 4 miles tonight I feel bad only running 3. If know one knows then it is easy to stop short. I have to admit that so far this year I have not done everything I should but also have done more than I would if the rest of you were not watching.

This is another reason I don't like people.  You do realize your 1/2 mile cool down was faster then my normal pace right??

That's why we just follow our own goals. We just make sure we keep improving above what we have done, and keep getting there. Who knows, we may someday cool down at 6min miles. That would be awesome.

Is anyone alive here or what! We are falling way to the bottom of the bucket teamates!

Time to chat a little more, and keep it up on the training.

I'm still alive. After meeting with my ortho doc he informed me that i have a Skier's Thumb injury which means I tore a ligament that will most likely require surgery to repair. I have a MRI scheduled for tomorrow to confirm the diagnosis and based on that I'll know my options. Regardless I'm currently in a cast so I'm limited as to what I can do training wise. This hoses my current training plan and potentially the beginning of tri season. I'll be rethinking my goals and will make the necessary adjustments.
