Guys, I'm afraid I'm going to withdraw from this challenge. I've been really ill and run-down and I think I'm putting too much pressure on myself to get better quickly.

You're a fab team and I'll be cheering for you all the way!

Hope you feel better soon!

Well it's the beginning of a new week team. Time to hit the road, and bust a move. Today wa an icky day outside, but I had to go out to clear my lungs. I have a sinus thing that moved into my chest. The plows have NOT been doing their jobs. The roads are snow --- then it rained --now they are a huge slushpuppy. Today was a slow 4.63 miles. wooowho! Have a happy sunday!

Gill,

Sorry to hear you have to withdraw, but definitely feel free to act as your team's "Official Cheerleader" this month!

Hope you're feeling 100% again soon!

Team Standings - as of Sun Feb 10th:

Rank Team# of Participants Percentage completed
1 Team Swimming Rocks
33 33.44%
2 Running with Scissors
19 31.65%
3 Gingerbread Joggers
16 30.39%
4 Team We  T.I.T.S.
30 29.11%
5 LEMmings - the reRUN. Over the cliff again.
18 28.92%
6 Pitter Patter of Fast Feet aka PFFT 18 19.41%

Congratulations to Team Swimming Rocks! They are the current leaders in the Feb Challenge!

I've noticed that some of the lower ranking teams have members who haven't reported in. In other words - the majority of the team is DOING FINE! But there are one or two people who have ZEROS recorded, which really brings the team total down!

Remember, your training needs to be reported on your BT Training log and on the spreadsheet! Team captains - please help your team members log their training correctly.

February is now 28% completed. So there's still plenty of time for you to SWIM, BIKE and RUN!

- Dee

To make Dee happy (and really, it is all about making Dee happy)...

I had a lovely weekend. On Saturday I did a nice long run (10 miles) although my footpod is off and I need to recalibrate. (I was supposed to do that this morning, but it was too cold and I wimped out and slept in.) On Saturday night I had a date night with Sugar Daddy that involved much wine and a search for a cookie that ended unsuccessfully. Since when are there malls without cookie stores? Have you ever really really really wanted a cookie? I settled for a Reese's PB cup.

On Sunday, after church I was going to take my bike out, but the wind was too strong, so I wimped out. I rode on the stationary at the Y, which was at best boring.

This morning, I was supposed to run but didn't. I'll hit the Y probably after work to do my miles on the 'mill. Today is supposed to be the only cold day here, so on Wednesday I should be able to get back outside.

Oh, and when I wasn't engaged in all of this fun, I was on stage with Beyonce & Tina at the Grammys, on the Campaign trail with McHillarObamaBee, and I delivered a 3-eared baby with a can opener on a hillside in Kazahkstan. Maybe that will give you something to write about.

Oh Kristen - that was hysterical!  Way to go...

Can I ask a non running question?  OK, well I'm gonna ask anyways....Does anyone have an opinion on tri versus road bike for sprint triathlon...I was at the bike stores this weekend drooling, and I'm not sure...do I REALLY need a tri bike for sprint distances?  Or just a really good road bike??

I'm in love with a Lemond Zurich (road) at the moment, but would really like to know what you guys think...

For sprints you will be fie with a road bike.  There's a lot of debate about this subject on the boards but in the long run you will pobably get more use out of a road bike and be a tad more comfortable on it as well without breaking the bank to do it.  I have a Fuji Roubaix and spent about $1500 on it with accessories last June.  There are less expensive bikes out there that will serve your purpose.  "Bicycling" mag.  lists 3 tri worthy road bikes this month: Specialized Tarmac Elite at just under 2K, Giant TCR C3 at 1800, and a Schwinn Peloton at 1700.  A lot of bike shops are clearing out last years models so you may get a sweet deal on an older model for even less money than the ones I just listed.

For the record, there's a very interesting thread in tri talk about the future of this sport and the cost of gear/tri toys is a factor in the discussion.  Most of us AG'ers have no delusions of making money off this sport and do it for the healthy lifestyle benefits but then spend enormous amounts of money on gear and race fees that we don't always have to spend.   Some interesting points to ponder if nothing else.

I agree with Zipp-ity-doo-da. No need for a tri bike. You will be much happier on a nice roadie that you can take on those fun group rides, centuries and stuff like that. Even really hard core triathletes that do Ironman distances have a regular road bike for training comfort.

BTW: I have a Lemond Buenos Aires (2006) and love it. It's not the new full carbon, it has a carbon cockpit and steel lower. Got it last spring at a heavy discount ($500 off original) since it had been on the showroom since late 2005.

Judi,

I so completely get that...I'll never be competitive, and you know what, the training all by itself is fun. (don't tell anyone, I actually enjoy having my trainer put me thru the workouts from hell)

And that's kinda why I asked...there are a lot of big sales that I know I can score a great bike thru...thanks for the "Bicycling" tip...going to go try and find and do some research.

So what does everyone have planned for the week?

I've got tomorrow off, so I was planning a longer run to catch myself up from the weekend slump. Depending on what's going on I was planning on running every other day this week with some yoga thrown in.

Is that last gingerbread sleeping? That's me today...I have 0 energy!!! Maybe I should lay down and call it yoga. Isn't it the plank pose?

My weekend was full of...um...uh...what did I do? Oh yeah a spinning interval training video on Saturday followed by much housecleaning. I also had 7 kids at my house ages 9-2 for 4 hours. Believe it or not it was NOT chaotic. In fact I read for about an hour of it. Some friends of ours went out on Saturday and we had their kids at our house in the afternoon, 3:30-7:30 so my kids just had their friends over and they were able to play outside because it wasn't raining for once.

I did have sushi on Saturday night. That is probably my favorite meal ever! I haven't had it for a long time so it really hit the spot.

Any sushi lovers? Haters?
What is another crazy food addiction in our group?
No...chocolate is NOT crazy that is a scientifically proven and perfectly normal food to kill people for.

( I mean crave)

Happy running!!

I live for peanutbutter--Crazy Richard's all natural specifically but I'll eat Smucker's all natural too.  My V8 addiction has been commented on by a few folks around here Better watch out Kurt, the last person who asked me about that is now a faithful V8 drinker because he made a bet with me about his time for a race (<1hr he didn't have to drink it, >1 hr he did)  Check back a couple weeks in Dexter's log or the wrap up from the Jan.  Challenge for the proof   I also live for my afternoon snack of veggies and hummus most days Yeah, I'm one of those super-healthy eating types.  People have a hard time believing me if I do eat something bad or that I was once obese...

As to the Zipp-ity-do dah...ROTFLMAO.  I use this as a tribute to an old coworker who used to call my husband zipperhead and me mrs zipperhead.  When I wouldn't take that name he called me zippette and would yell that on the way into the ER whenever he saw me.  I miss his antics...When I joined BT the name zippy was already taken so I had to adapt

I will drink a V8 now and again, but it is usually just to add some flavor to my beer. Here in the midwest we call them "Red Beer's". As you can see, I am not a super healthy eater...yet.

I wanted to share with all of you GingerJogger's a little podcast I found. I know most of us will run with something to listen too, so check out podrunner on itunes (or http://www.djsteveboy.com/mixes.html). Techno style mixes that have specific BPM to keep your cadence. I am going to download a couple and try them out, but I also don't mind techno and can understand those that don't.

To make Dee happy (and really, it is all about making Dee happy)...

So, it's not all about Hector then? But sure - I'm perfectly willing for it to be "all about me."

I had a lovely weekend. On Saturday I did a nice long run (10 miles) although my footpod is off and I need to recalibrate. (I was supposed to do that this morning, but it was too cold and I wimped out and slept in.)

Yes, that was a nice run. As for the weather, I'm thinking it's a good thing you don't live in MN.

On Saturday night I had a date night with Sugar Daddy that involved much wine and a search for a cookie that ended unsuccessfully.

Ooooh! A date! Two adults got drunk and went searching for a "cookie!" Yeah! Tell us more!.... Oh wait, it ended unsuccessfully. Nevermind.

Since when are there malls without cookie stores? Have you ever really really really wanted a cookie? I settled for a Reese's PB cup.

I thought you were supposed to settle for cheesecake? (At least that's what Sal has us believing.)

On Sunday, after church I was going to take my bike out, but the wind was too strong, so I wimped out. I rode on the stationary at the Y, which was at best boring.

Well, ok. We're glad you got a ride in. But you really should have gone for an outdoor ride. It would have made a much more interesting story.... "Kristen vs. the 100 mph winds."

So that was YOU with Beyonce and Tina! Well gee, I thought I recognized you!

But I do NOT want to hear details of your delivering a baby with a can opener! Not even if the kid had three ears....
