so I decided to actually start using the Nutrition part of the log... so not a good thing. lol.  my lunch alone was around 1000 calories.

I was thinking about moving to a 6 or 5 meal a day schedule with like 400 calories each.  I will try to start that next week and see how that goes.

That, my friend, is the secret......  It will take a couple weeks to get used to it, but it's the way to go....

That's what I do. I don't track my calorie intake, but I do eat frequently. I actually have a hard time handling really big meals these days because I am so used to frequent smaller (normal-sized -- haha) meals.

You'll like it, and it will do a lot of good for your overall nutrition and how it fuels your training.

well then, that does it.  Starting on monday I'm going to prepare my meals the day before.  I think I'll do 7am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm, and 7pm.  For where my body is now, I might need to start at about 500 calories which will put me at 2500 calories for the day.  I think that I burn around 2500-3000 calories a day from just existing so this should be fine for now.  I know it will be hard at first, but I now have a group that is paying attention to my results.  Thanks again for all your input

Let me add - drink LOTS of water.  That is also key to weight loss (AND overall health and performance).  Depending climate and how much you train, you may have to make adjustments to the amount.

I'll have to say that I think I'm good on the water part.  I have a 32oz nalgene at work that I drink at least 2 at work.  Then I love to chew ice at home and have probably another 32+ oz when I'm home.  I probably get in at least 12 cups of water a day.

Watch the plastic!  3, 6, and 7 are bad ones.  I threw away all of my water bottles with those numbers!

yeah, mine is a 7, but I have a really hard time caring.  From what I read it isn't as big a deal as the news has made it.  I'll keep with my nalgene bottle and worry about it later.

same.  hubby is in the biological sciences, so i said, "babe, since i have to carry the children, you find the actual research papers and tell me what i need to worry about for this plastic stuff."

result:  i'm keeping my nalgene with these conditions.  1) don't put hot water into it. 2) don't drink water that's been left in the bottle for more than a few days.  even then, it's barely remotely close to a problem, but those are easy so i'll just avoid those two scenarios.

Contaminants build up over time.  It is simple to switch from the hard plastic lexan-type nalgene to the softer white one.  The 7 is a particularly bad one.  Why take chances?

Just my 2 cents.  Yeah, I'm a bit of a granola.

yep, I actually just read that you would have to drink about 1300 pounds of food/water that was in contact with the polycarbonate plastic each day for your entire life to go above safe levels.  I don't think I'll be doing that any time soon.

I don't mean to be a pain in the butt, but you might want to do a bit more research.  It takes much less of the compound than you think to begin causing problems.  Those problems may not be recognized for years, either.  The compound found in #7 mimics estrogen which can be a bad thing for the endocrine system AND it has been linked to an increased susceptibility to Type 2 diabetes.

I get enough chemicals in my body with having to fuel my triathlon habit!  I choose to ignore the horrible implications of chlorine seeping through my pores!  (Is anyone out there lucky enough to swim in a salt water pool?  There is an awesome one in Ashland, Oregon!)

There's 2 more cents.  I'll shut up now!

no no, please feel free to voice your thoughts.  I understand where you are coming from, but I have a very carefree way to live.  Everything now adays causes something so I just feel that when it is my time to go, its my time to go :P.  I'm much happier not worrying what type of plastic I can drink out of.  Though on second though maybe I'm sick right now because of just that.  Eh, I'll leave caring about that to another day.

But please, if you have an opinion on anything we talk about, voice it.

Here's the funny thing about the plastic discussion when it comes to this group of people, we all open-water-swim and we're guaranteed to suck-in a lung-full of lake or ocean water right? I'll bet that all those gulps have about as many contaminants as you could get from boiling your Nalgene Bottle and drinking it. Just a thought.

I don't remember who was asking about bikes, but I think one of the best things you can do is start frequenting your local bike shop and buying accessories or getting your bike tuned-up and talking to the guys/gals while you're there. I have an older Bianchi that I just had tuned-up and I told the guys at the bike shop that I plan to buy a "real" bike next year sometime and they've really helped me out with a lot of stuff even giving me the employee discount on the little things (tubes and bottles).

When are people's next races?

My next one isn't until sometime in the end of June.

Sweet! I'm so jealous of everyone getting out and racing. Stupid injuries. I hope to do at least a sprint (and/or an Oly) before IMLP. I will prob race the first weekend of June. It'll be a sprint and I'll be doing at minimum my long bike the day before (6 weeks out from IMLP at that point).

Someone on the MA board said they went in the water this weekend and it was too cold to put your face in.  It's only in a resevior and the temps have been in the 70s, so I hoping it will warm up.  I have a full Xterra.

Peroneal tendonitis and tear earlier this year. I didn't run at all for 6 weeks, but I stayed on my schedule and just did all my runs in the pool. I am still doing a combination of dry-land running and aquajogging (as you probably saw in my log). For instance, my run on Saturday is 2 hrs. It'll be 55' on dry land and 1:05 in the pool...

I have been fine in my full in low 60s, so I hope it's at least that for you. If it's only in the 50s, you can possibly go with the neoprene cap and booties. How long is the swim?

I'll summarize in one post....

WATER BOTTLES

I'll keep the water bottle number in mind on future water bottle purchases (which is never since I get a couple new ones every race.  Ended up throwing a couple off the bike during the last race - don't worry, at the aid stations  ).

But I don't worry about it that much.  I only use them on my long bikes and or runs and sort of put it at the list of "just a new thing to worry about" such as too much cell phone use and brain cancer....  This may be more valid, so it warrents some care IMO, but not a life style change for me.

COLD WATER and WETSUIT

If you have a full wetsuit, 70 degrees is easy to handle.  It will be a little cold when you first get in, but you will forget the temp as soon as the horn sounds....  You will be fine!

RACE

Got one May 10.  I'm crossing my fingers to break 3 hours.  I need the wind at my back to do it though.....

Then I have a race of some sort tentatively planned for every month....

POST COUNT

Kind of noticed that too!  Lauren's group ROCKS!  Everyone else is just jealous!

Plus, I'm a blabbermouth so I'm good for a dozen posts a day.....

Only 400.  I will suck it up.  Once the adrenaline kicks in, I won't feel a thing.
