PirateGirl - 2008-05-06 1:40 PM It never fails. When you're sitting at your desk eating popcorn (or crackers or some other crumbly treat) and one falls on the floor, you WILL wheel over it with the office chair while backing up to see where it fell, crushing it into the carpet.

So true. I thought it was a law of office dynamics or something?

What are other "laws of office dynamics"?

The law of attraction - When you have 2 or 3 high impact projects, they will attract other projects to them so that your workload becomes nearly untenable for a few months.

I always thought the "Law of Attraction" was that the hottest woman in the office is usually the closest friend to the sexual harassment person in HR.

That works, too.  I'm just looking at my calendar for the next month and a half and I'm definitely a victim of the first definition.

Here's my first week of June... kids DC closed M-Tues.  Major, major work project information will become available the week before... probably at week's end.  Presentation of it (requiring travel) is that Thursday/Friday.

Oh, and I have my first tri of the season that Saturday.  At least my taper coincides with a bad work week.

Hey guys...been a busy day for me...

But, also, very cool.

I did my first "real" bike repair on the tri bike last night (re-did my front and rear derailleur cables) and it got me jonesing to actually build the road bike that I've wanted instead of buying it pre-built.

NICE!!!

What I have found, is a bike is a very simple machine.  Once you get over your nerviousness of jumping in and getting your hands greasy, it's not that hard....

I thought about building a bike too.  I may buy my next tri bike pre-built (it's actually cheaper that way),  but then rob the components off my current bike and put them on a roadie.....

My DH has decided that he does not like our LBS... so I told him that he has to do all my mechanics and teach me how as well.  I'm looking forward to it.

Good for you.......I still consider changing the tire myself to be a "real" repair.  Kiss

The nicer the weather, the LESS work one has to do.

If you bring a leftover you don't like, no one will touch it.  If you bring your favorite, it will be stolen.

I never understood that.  I would NEVER want to eat someone else's food.  That's just gross - unless it's leftover pizza or half a sangwitch that's been untouched and they offered it.  Who knows what's in the other stuff or how old it is....  ick...

How's the vball treating you?  I'm taking a break this summer, just playing sand for fun with some girlfriends once a week.

I will be building a Tri-bike starting this winter as my project.  It will be built to my exact specifications.  I am already starting to try and find parts on sale and have the frameset narrowed down to 8 or 9 options.

Bah.  Sand seems like a dream yet.  Too much stress on the knee.  Even court is pretty bad.  Haven't played womens in a tournament yet.  V-ball is actually the one thing that WILL inflame my knee.  So I'm not in any leagues or anything this summer.  Prolly play some pick up sand later on when I can't STAND not to.  =)  I NEVER play sand with chics though...you must have some pretty competitive girls there to get that to work.  =

Sorry to hear that.  I've been having some achilles issues, and if they flare up then the sand is out.

It's kind of a fun bunch, but this is the first year we're doing women only... This woman's parents live on a lake up here and put in a sand court a few years ago (all 4 of their daughters play, as did 3 of their daughter's spouses, SOs).   We usually round robin it with 3s or 4s, depending how many folks show up.

This is the friend whose husband died last summer, so I think this is going to be a good thing for her.  It'll be hard to play there, though ... the last time I played there, it was trips with her husband, about a month before he died.

I started my shopping by thinking "Well, I'll just get a used aluminum bike that I can ride around and not worry if something happens to it". Then I talked myself up to "well, if I'm going to spend the money anyway, why not spend it on something I actually would WANT, which would be a used carbon bike".

And, after last night, it became "I can buy a carbon frame, buy the components separately, and put it together myself. It may be more expensive, but the experience will be worth it."

Plus, I'll have the tools and knowledge to do my own tune-ups from now on.

I've done this TWICE and spent less than I would have spent buying retail.
