First tri of the season for me next Sunday--Lonestar Half-Iron at Galveston.  Looking to get some similiar type of conditions as IMFL- salt water (though not as many waves and NASTY water), flat, windy, and humid!

I really want to do the Florida HIM in May, but I haven't found out when our stupid readiness exercises are going to be at work. A week in MOPP gear and a flak vest would totally ruin my taper. The $265 is nonrefundable and nontransferable, so I guess I'll wait until the week before the race and hope it doesn't fill up!

Well, looks like I'll probably be AquaBiking it this next weekend. I have some sort of calf/lower right leg injury, and I'd rather nip it in the bud now. It's all about IMFL....

I only know how many days thanks to a ticker I have...

Thanks for the well wishes though--biking and swimming are still good! Better to heal up now and start running later.

Finally booked a room.  Found a condo at Sunbird on VRBO.  I think its right next to Boardwalk and the start/finish line.  Got a pretty good deal too, $355 for 5 nights!  All thats left now is a butt load of training!

Sunbird is right by the finishline that's a great deal.  I will be going down to PCB this weekend and staying a week if anyone will be in the area let me know, I plan to ride and run a lot while I'm there.

Completed first race of the season this past weekend, just a sprint (Smithfield, VA), but was nice to get racing again as I've had the itch. White Lake 70.3 coming up in about a month (5/2) any other Mid-Atlantic people doing this race?

Booked a spot at Shores of Panama, heard from many this is a nice place. I stayed at the host HOTEL last year and was not impressed.

Ready for Summer!

I'm new to triathlon, so I'm not familiar with some of the lingo. How much is a "butt load" of training? Is there a conversion chart somewhere? Tongue out

Just finished first race (run) of the season 10K -rained the entire race! Felt strong and had negative splits the entire race. I had pnemonia just 8 weeks ago so this is a bigger deal than it sounds for me. Oly coming up in July, but about 6 more running races before then including two 1/2 Mary's. Can you tell I'm mostly worried about the Marathon for IMFL??? Happy Training fellow IMFLers.

Heh.  I guess it depends who you ask.  For me, a "butt load" is 15 to 20 hours a week.  Those days  will begin near the end of June.  Good times!

for you out of towners or people who have done this before. I am from Pennsylvania and was planning on flying down Wednesday and leaving MOnday. does that sound ok or should I give myself an extra day before or after the race. I don't want to feel rushed around and I want some time to relax afterward.

Pretty much the same thing here, although I'm driving from Ohio. At first I thought getting there on Thursday was OK but I want that one more day to acclimate. It was unseasonably cool down there in PCB last year but I'm not expecting it to happen again.

We're making an overnight stop each direction. So for me it's drive down late Tuesday/early Wednesday and return Monday and early Tuesday. Didn't want to spend 14 hours cramped in the car in either direction. The bonus for me... I get home on Tuesday but then get Wednesday off work for Veteran's Day.

I'm doing the same, though coming from TX and driving in on Wed and leaving on Monday.  Not sure how much time I'll take on either end as I'm going to take a couple weeks total of vacation.

Back on Sunday? Ouch. I don't know about anybody else, but I don't plan on being able to think, much less walk or travel the day after. In fact, that gives me a great idea. I'm taking along a wheelchair and having my 'team' push me around all day Sunday. Whether I need it or not. Tongue out

Wheelchair -mmm, I like it ! only requires 1 person to push rather than the 2 on either side of the stretcher -very nice!

I can't wait to hear your Gulf Coast race reports. My original plan was to go to Gulf Coast as a trial for IMFL. I'm going to Alcatraz instead!

Does anyone know where the Shores of Panama condos are located in reference to the TA?

I plan on arriving on Wed and leave on Monday as well.  To and from Houston, TX.  The ride there ~ not so bad... The ride back... stopping every 45 minutes to stretch the weary, tight, and hopefully not cramp-filled legs...it will be a long one!
