This week I'll be hitting the bookstore for an olympic tri training plan.

I was chatting with a friend about all the stuff I have planned this spring/summer/fall.  I'm gonna be one busy fool.  Oof.

Gonna be fun though.

Why don't you just print one off of this site? It's cheaper?? But I'm a book worm, so I understand about keeping/buying a book...

I have mentioned this book before, but for those I haven't mentioned it to.

I got THIS book and still look at it.  There are pros and cons like any plans, but still a good read.

So....my goals this year?! hmmmmm......

I want to be more consistent with my training....I say that now, but when school is back in force....ekkk...i'm kinda nervous?!

But for sure to tone up my body overall, especially the ab area!! I want to be stronger....so more strength training.....and of course eating better...which I'm surprised that i'm doing well so far!! (I hope I didn't jinx myself?)

I guess the swim/bike/run will just all come......not necessary looking to have a specific goal in each area but I figure if I eat better, tone up and be stronger, my swim/bike/run will naturally improve?!

I want to read a bit more about the plans, learn more about heart rate zones, effort levels during workouts, etc.  That will be better for me than just jumping into a plan or just training at random, like I did last year.

First night back running.  It hurt a bit.

OK!  Happy New year everyone!  But lazy time is over......

Let's get this party started...

My goals this year are to finally get to race weight and get FASTER.  The last two years were to get a good base and go long.  Now it's time for speed.

Looking at an Oly or HIM in April.

So, that being said, what is everyone working for this spring/summer.  Do you have a plan yet?

Goals this year are set around races I have entered or am entering.

May - Sprint
June - My first OLY
July - Sprint I did last year (staying at this distance to see if I have improved)
August - Looking for a sprint or OLY, and have a sea swim TT
September - Local sprint run by local tri club

My main aims are 1) complete OLY in less than 3 hrs and 2) show improvement from last year in sprints.
I don't feel particularly strong in any area, although I have seen improvements in my swimming and running. Main weakness is the bike I guess, although it is hard to judge as speed is so affected by weather conditions.

Hi Guys,

Have any of you got a Garmin 305 ? If so, what software do you use on the PC. I have been using my Garmin for 6 months but the software I use for downloading has corrupted and needs re-installing. I can't find the disk but never found it to be that helpful anyway. Is there something better out there?

HOLA team??/group??

How is everyone doing thus far!

I've come to realize that I'm so easily distracted and need to get up earlier if I anticipate any workout during my days. I slept in yesterday and planned a workout...instead I played Monopoly with my son.....(which was REALLY FUN!)

Plan on getting something in today!

I have used one for well over a year, maybe a year and a half.

BT download the 305 data, so I put all mine in here.  But I also use Training Center (TC).  I would think you could download a new copy from the Garmin Web site.  I actually think it's the best of the bunch for several reasons...

There is a web site system called "Motion Based" that is a little different at http://www.motionbased.com/

Some people use SportTracks. It's free as well.  I was not a big fan because it didn't download my lap data (if you use that feature)  It may be improved, but I didn't like it when I tried it a year ago.   http://www.zonefivesoftware.com/SportTracks/

I had a bad night diet wise.  I did well for the last few days, but couldn't stop eating last night.  Too bad a lot of it wasn't the best for me.  Snacking on baked cheese curls and baked chips.  Could stop till have the bag was gone.  Well, today is a new day and a fresh start.

I'm so happy...I figured out how to put a link box on my page w/a link to the group's forum and all of our individual pages.  I need a icon doing the "happy dance."

OK, the box thing is pretty cool.  I can do the links, but the box thing?  Nope.

I've got my training log adjusted after the holiday break. Loaded all my stats. Decided to cut back/out on the beer and "junk" food. Feeling good about it. Got back in the pool on Monday. felt like I was starting over. I'm going to mix in some drills during the cool down phases.
Anybody trying the 100 push ups in 6 weeks? I downloaded the app for the iPhone (I love gadgets). Started it today.

You can either copy and paste mine, or if you want to do it the long way go to this link for the directions and HTML codes.  http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=97624&posts=53&start=1

I thought that would be cool to try.  Tried it and realized I couldn't do one real push up.  (I can only do about 10 on a balance ball before I'm ready to die.)

I can do 100 push ups in 6 weeks.  That's just over 2 per day.  No problem......

Oh, you mean at one time...  Oops...

lol...  100 pushups... not even in my best years!!!

Well, sorry for the long absense... I was out in Vegas for the new year and had a couple of good runs and 2 days of illness (with a round of golf at DragonRidge inbetween)...

Looking to get out of the gates quick... 249 days to my first IM distance... I have a ton of work to do!!!

It has been great reading all the updates, keep on pushing forward!

A Happy Belated New Year to all of you.  Wow, I have some catching up to do with everyone's posts! I was away for half of the holiday season and got right into the swing of things at work when I got back.

2009 will be another fun and busy year. I am beginning training today for my 10 miler race and spring half-mary set to take place early April and early May respectively and will begin training for my September HIM on April 29th.  What will help a great deal this year in terms of performance and weight loss are the active cardiorespiratory tests on both the run and bike to determine my VO2max, anaerobic threshold, true maximum heart rate, and optimal fat burning HR zone.  The one for the run and my resting metabolic rate test were done in December, bike is coming up on January 17th.  My tri bike (and me by extension) will also be pampered at the beginning of April courtesy of my significant other who gave me a certificate for a professional tri bike fit as a Christmas gift.  I plan on continuing my ART treatments as well throughout the year.

The one thing two things I REALLY have to focus on this year though is getting more quality sleep hours as well as my weight and food intake.  I am 25 lbs over my race weight and would like to lose the ballast before my HIM race in September.

I got THIS book and still look at it.  There are pros and cons like any plans, but still a good read.

I have it as well and used the level 2 HIM training plan and both off season training plans consecutively.  They all worked for me! I will definitely be using this book again this year but will upgrade to the level 3 HIM plan (or 4, if work doesn't stand in the way too much) and adjust it a little as I will be spending more time on the saddle this year.

Happy training everyone!

Good workout last night on the trainer.  It was only a half hour, but I was dripping wet by the time I finished.

Intervals.  Yum.

Really short run today with my wife who is trying to lose a bit of weight and gain fitness before our next holiday. It is really hard to run slow. I struggled and felt really heavy legged when I finished. Felt more like I had run 10 miles than 2. I am not fast by any means but felt really awful at the end.

This afternoon did an hour on the trainer. Weather here is very cold, wet and foggy. I wish I could get out to ride. Its soul destroying riding indoors!
