I did a new table with just usernames since we have such a big group. Other changes-- links to everyone else's training pops up in a new window or tab (instead of replacing yours) and there's now a link to the forum. Once you copy and paste, you can edit colors or add our team name. (Was there one we settled on? I'll have to go back and catch up on all the chat from yesterday!) Feel free to PM if you need help doing any of that, but you should just be able to select the entire table and copy and paste directly into your "Goals" section.

I am officially on vacation!!!!!!! It'll feel so nice to workout at my own pace rather than trying to squeeze it in between work and errands! For Xmas eve: abs, a 2 mile run, and either a cycle or a swim... probably should take advantage of the pool before they close for the holidays for a couple days!

Happy holidays, All!

Hmmm, for some reason this table won't copy and paste into my blog.

Lisa, I'm keeping the old table but I know you're part of the gang

Merry Christmas everyone!!!  I got no tri-related gifts.  We exchange names among the adults in my family and I got a little refrigerator to have in my office.  I've been wanting one to keep my lunch and Diet Cokes cold.  Of course, I am off Diet Coke until after February 28, but I can keep water cold until then.   I do bring my lunch to work most days and I find that helps both with the cost of buying lunch and being able to control the calories.   And now I have to figure out a way to either get a run in or do enough pushups, crunches and squats to call it a workout, for both my peach and my strength training challenge.

Hope everyone had a awonderful Christmas!!! My husband got me the Lake Placid bike spinnerval dvd, yanks, and I got a new pair of compression shorts to run in. I also got a cool running jacket with extra long sleeves that fold over as mittens till you get warm. Tested it out yesterday and it works wonderfully! We had a sudden change of plans when our 2 yr. old decided to get violently sick all over me yesterday morning- we took turns staying home w/ her in bed while the other one shuttled our 3 yr. old to our respective families...
I am also computer challenged...I cutted and pasted our names into my goals but it isn't linked up anymore...just the names. any ideas?

Since we just bought a new computer for the family, we decided to lay low on the gifts...so I received no tri-related stuff from DH, but I expect to get a $100 gift card from Road Runner sports from my folks -- we head to NJ tomorrow for a couple of days.

Oh my God I am glad that is over.

Wow. 7 nights, 5 dinner parties.

Let's just say that the Holiday Excercise Plan was not a grand success. I did manage to get on the trainer the last three days for a bit, but that was it.

My wife and I are not big on gifts, so really nothing of merit to share with the group as far as presents go. Looks like some of you made out like bandits though.

Alright, time to start the Fatboy Prevention Project. Wish me luck.

Hi all! I had a great Christmas with my family...best part of it for me is always the FOOD ....not the gifts. So I'm going to tell you what I made for dinner: high heat roasted fresh turkey, mashed potatoes with...get ready for this... cream cheese, Pecorino Romano cheese, butter ,whipping cream and of course garlic (thought my brother was going to cry when he ate them!!), salad, bread stuffing .....and for dessert sour cherry streusel pie with French Vanilla ice cream. This was all washed down with copious amounts of cold Corona......

Can you tell that aquagirl LOVES to cook?? Here is a picture of the aftermath.....well worth it!

Hey Mentor Chicks...I had a question re the drainer. Does it matter where I set the resistance?? I have a basic tacx , no power meter or anything. I've set the resistance to around 4 and then just change gears on my bike. I am making sure not too mash, nice high cadence, and I'm wearing my HRM now so does this sound OK??

What I would really like of course is a power tap thingy....do they only work on the trainer or can you use them on the road as well?? And are they mucho expensive??

I just got my first trainer recently and have the same question as you do about where I should be cranking up the resistance. Mine's just a knob (not numbered settings) and I have a basic bike computer, but that's giving me distance based on what I pedal out on whatever resistance I've set it to on my Road Machine. I was looking at the Kurt Kinetic power meter here that's only $40 and would work on the trainer or road, but not accurately for power off the trainer... not sure if they're all like that?

PS- I'm salivating over your retelling of dinner! We've been cooking up a storm here for the past coupla days, too. Def going to have to double up on the workouts this weekend! Laughing

I have a power meter...you can use them on trainer or outside..anywhere you use the wheel. You can even use it on multiple bikes if you have different bike mounts.

They start at about $1000-1100 and with a good discount I found mine new for $720 with coupon at Performance Bike a couple years ago.

Resistance doesn't really matter as long as you don't top out gears meaning you always have enough resistance and more harder gears available. You don't want tire slipping which makes it squeak a lot.

^^^aha, My tire slips a lot and the thing I adjust tension with alays slips from where I set it.  I knew my trainer was not functioning right.

I stopped at Borders on the way home from the in laws and piked up a copy of Chi Running (need to re read it) and a training plan for a century ride.

Thanks for all the notes on my training log...I'm here now to explain why it looks so empty!

We just got home tonight from a 10-day holiday trip, and I can't go into all the details (because my "reasons" may sound like "excuses," but I was not able to get in any workouts while we were away. But, I am glad to be home and excited that tomorrow is coming! We were able to bring some stuff to KY that we had to leave in GA before (when we moved)...including my stationary bike and treadmill!!! Kentucky has been colder than GA (duh!) and I think I can be more faithful with the addition of these inside tools!

I didn't get any sports-related stuff for xmas...most of my family found out during this trip that I had developed this new interest. On second thought, I did receive a couple of tri-related things - scorn and mocking! WHATEVER!

I am glad to be a part of this group...thank you all for your encouraging comments earlier...

Gifted everyone a Garmin 305 this Xmas-- one for my boyfriend, on for the tri-newbie brother (the brother with 2 tris under his belt already has one), and of course one for me   Xmas eve I got my brakes re-adjusted so my bike's got a clean bill of health for drainer workouts, as well as picked up a wired bike computer since my wireless won't work with the back tire.

Any goals or challenges planned for January?

I tried to do an Ironman Challenge (completing Ironman distances within each discipline over the course of the month) in Nov, but failed miserably on reaching the bike distance, so that's one goal for me in the next month.  It works out for me since I'd like to really up my bike training and not worry too much about swiming (which I could bang out in 2 sessions).  Anyone else up for doing an Ironman with me?  You can always adjust the distances if you're going to focus on one discipline over another.  Or any other goals or challenges in your near future?
