Hi Team

I just did 41 miles on the bike . riding around the county .  My ride had a couple of hills  and an out and back leg  to  Pismo beach sand dunes by the pacific ocean .  The Scenery is stunning , roads almost empty of cars  & trucks , weather blissful @ 50F warming up to 65F in the last hour of the ride .The wind picked up as the ride went on and the return trip home was very slow .

That sounds so awesome.

Hey team! Looks like everyone's off to a good start for 2010! Gotta get my goals put on the spreadsheet tonight, have been offline catching up on post holiday cleanup and house maintenance. Trying to get the whole 2009's work finished up that I postponed from IM training. Be good to get back to the normal work and workout schedule tommorow!

Hey team, looks like we are all off to a good start.  Went to the gym this evening and got an hour in on the bike.....I love doing sprint invervals, it really makes the time go by a lot faster.  Got the training log & spreadsheet filled out.

Question - What's your favorite spinnerval dvd?  I'm gonna order me a couple this week & would like your opinions.  Thanks!

Holly, you might want to try Jorge's Winter Maintenance Plan right here on BT.  I just finished week 1.  It is top-notch and free.  I'm using the HR/RPE plan.  I wish I had the money for a Powertap though; I think there would be even bigger advantages to be gained by using power.

Anyways, check it out.  Here's the link:

http://jorgepbmcoaching.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

Thanks Tim, I am going to give it a try.  I don't have a Powertap either so I will be using the HR/RPE plan as well.  Oh well, maybe next Christmas. Smile

I did 2.5 miles on the treadmill and chest & back workout today.  Great weekend everyone, keep it up!!

I got a bunch of spinervals off of isohunt.com.  I just downloaded them so i donk know how they are.  this is the best way to preview them and if you like them you can buy them.  I also like to just listen to drum and bass while riding on the rollers.

I cant wait to get back into a reg routine starting tomorrow things will flow nicely for the month(i hope).

Good morning team!

Just a quick check-in from me. It's depressing that even though i've already done 5 of my committed workouts for the challenge it's still a long way off from being in-the-bag.  But it's good!  I did a short trainer ride per my plan this morning and it keeps me well on track!

It's pretty cold here so it can be hard to get motivated to get out of a warm bed!

How's everyone else?

Hi Everyone!
I hope people are enjoying work today. I am actually happy (I know that is a bothersome word to associate with work) to be back to work today after 2 weeks off. I am so much better at getting my workouts in when I have a busy schedule. Enjoy the day!

I just checked the spreadsheet, I put my goals in yesterday and the percentage completed isn't showing. Thoughts?

Teach me, master!!

I got to yoga this morning but don't think I will make it to the gym tonight. I'm excited to get into a flow at my new job where I will hopefully be able to squeeze in regular lunch time workouts.

We're looking good, everyone! It's hard to tell because the other team's spreadsheets haven't been fixed up as nicely as Tim did ours, but at a glance I believe we are in a close second behind Team 3 and in front of Team 1.

We're just over 8% complete as a whole and the challenge is 13% of the way through. Tons of time to pick up the pace and take the lead! Go Epiphanies!!

This got me thinking... ouch, too early for thatUndecided.  I know our group is quite geographically diverse spanning multiple continents, in fact!  This got me wondering what everyone does for work to support their triathlon obsession in these different regions.    Play along if you wish:

I'm a fireman in Santa Cruz, CA.

Now, back to the training.  I've been consistent with getting my swim and trainer hours done.  I'm still holding off on the run due to my hip.  Hip is feeling better after a few day of not running, but the I need to be cautious.  I don't want to blow my marathon training at this point.  I might try a short run tomorrow and then allow a couple more days off.  Regardless, I'm going to have to reduce my run goal for the month.  I was thinking of prorating the goals by days missed: 1/31 * days missed * original goal amount.  This should provide a verifiable rationale for the reduction.

Does this seem fair?

I "live" at a desk... and so not happy to be sitting again today after almost two weeks of vacation and taking care of sick kids. I'm actually an actuary for a small insurance company in upstate NY. I'm the person you hate since I make the rates...

Exciting, I know... I'd much rather work at a winery where I'd hopefully get an employee discount!

That made me giggle. I work at a dog daycare/boarding kennel, so these last two weeks were the busiest of the year! January is my time to kick back and catch up on everything (cleaning, filing) that got lost in the shuffle when we were full.

On the workout side, I just got back from a jaunt in the cold and wind. I figured I would need my jacket, but I should have gone with the vest. Is it possible that because I've gained so much weight () I run a lot hotter now?

I have a trainer ride planned for tonight after the kids go to bed... I just need to pick up a movie to watch on the way home. I'm out of 24 reruns and waiting for Netflix to deliver!

I just need to get ONE of my swims in this week and I'll be a little ahead of my plan, I think. I was going to try to do it this morning but figured it would be too hard on a Monday with having to get the kids back to school, taking my husband to work since he left his car there last week, and deal with the cold and snowy roads. I think I'll try to get it done tomorrow morning to get it out of the way. It's been way too long since I've been in the pool. I miss the smell of chlorine!

I was told to always dress to the point where you will be uncomfortable for the first few miles/minutes then warm into your layering.

This is easier said than done though.  Especially when going from a nice warm house to the cold.  I tend to dress to my current comfort level, then get to warm after I start.  But, I'm a big baby when it comes to the cold.  That's probably why I still live in California.

5 mile run in 40F weather with a good breeze blowing ,  worse part is the cars driving thoughtlessly around the town on this back to work morning .

Winery  ?   Did someone mention winery

Jack: Man! That's tasty!
Miles Raymond: That's 100% pinot noir. Single vineyard. They don't even make it any more.
Jack: Pinot noir?
Miles Raymond: Mmm-hmm.
Jack: Then how come it's white?
Miles Raymond: [laughs] Oh, Jesus. Don't ask questions like that up in wine country. They'll think you're some kind of dumbs**t, OK?
