Does anyone know if the bike route is going to be the same as last year or if it's getting adjusted to be longer?  I'm trying to rough out some goals and, in my age group (35-39), 20mph looks like it was BOP (86th out of 101).  I could be off, but this seems pretty fast for a HIM.  If it's the same route, does anyone know how long it really is?

According to my Garmin, it was over 55 miles.  Last year the weather was perfect (cool & no wind) and the course is pretty flat, so bike speeds were pretty fast.

Kman2011 - 2010-05-01 1:14 PM If anyone is interested I am planning on riding the course the weekend of 5/22-5/23.  Haven't ridden it before and would like to get out at least 2-3 times.

I DEFINATELY want to ride that weekend.

As it gets closer, let's all touch base about who's in, and which day (think we'll have to be watching the weather forecasts, since it's so unpredictable) and all those details.

So, as of today...Tuesday 5/4:

I am not sure but have heard that Racine is a fast course so your times look pretty accurate!

FYI......The IMWI registration and shifts are now open.  I signed up to hand out bottles at the Cross Plains location and then I'm moving to provide information to friends/family in the medical tent.  Should be a great experience!  I also am considering doing IMWI next year so I'm hoping I can get a spot through the volunteer work.

Going to try and get a 50+ mile ride in tomorrow morning, but apparently I'll have to get the coldweather gear out of the closet.  I thought we were past all this.  I hope our group ride on the 22nd or 23rd is in better weather, because I am really not looking forward to fighting the elements tomorrow.

I might be able to come up and ride.  I'm about 1hr away.  I'm assuming we'll ride the whole course and start at the park?

That's what I was hoping for too! Not sure if that first street that we turn right onto from the transition area will still be under construction? Thought Raytown Pete (lives off the course) said they were redoing it???

ok.  worst case is we just start in front of the zoo...only about 3/4 of a mi off the start anyway.

look forward to it.   it'll be good to get on the course.  the earlier the better in the morning for me...but whatever works for most peeps

CONSTRUCTION REPORT:

the start is fine,  up the hill and out of transition to Main street. Take a right on Main and the construction begins about 6 blocks past the zoo. Normally a two lane road in both directions , it is down to a single lane as they are working on the outside north bound lane. The construction zone is roughly a 1/3 of mile right now.

there is a street that runs parrel to main street if you are interested in a detour, the mileage would be the same and a good section of it was repaved recently so it nice and smooth. I'll map it out.

I have an out of town  guys weekend that weekend otherwsie I'll love to join the group.

There is a set of lights at the zoo entrance you can turn left here, go two blocks to Erie and then take a right. Erie street runs parallel to Main Street. Main street dead end at Four mile road (here you turn left) and Erie has a stop sign at 4 mile road.

I agree on the earlier the better.  I'd prefer a Sat ride, but the weekend is wide open so it really doesn't matter.

Raytown Pete, thanks for the possible detour

I am open to whatever...I'll be driving up from Chicago though, so I would prefer not too, too early!

Pete...sorry you are going to be out of town...would have loved to see you.

And than you SOO much for the detour map...that's such a huge help!

As of today (obviously I realized this could change in a matter of hours), looks like Sunday is the better day?

Anyone else up for Sunday? Looks like a really nice day?

Say....meet at the park at 10:00?? I'm pretty flexible on time, but the sooner we can nail this down, the better, because I have to rent a Zipcar to get up to the race site.

Thanks!

Amy

this late in the day will be pretty hard for me to juggle.  i was thinking more of a 6am or 7am start time.  i typically get my rides done earlier, and esp this one since it's out of town...that means that most of the day will be over by the time we're done riding and back home.

no big deal if i can't make it this time...i hope you guys have an awesome ride.  I'll give a shout out on this thread when i'm going up to ride the course next.

if i can make it though, i'll see u guys at 10am at the park.
