Tri-ingToTurn40 - 2010-06-03 10:49 PM OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG!!!!!!11!1!1!

Okay. So I posted earlier today that was going to go biking this evening, but that I was not going to work on my challenge goal of getting my short route (aka oasis route, aka 15-mile route) under one hour. Instead I wanted to go on a long ride and explore.

Well, the route I took went to the oasis, then up through a couple towns, out and back on a crushed limestone trail, back through those towns, to the oasis, and then back home.

Get this! My time from home to the oasis was 27:30. That's good, and I almost turned around right there to try to get home in under an hour. But what if I didn't make it? Then I would have given up my long ride and not made the oasis goal. I decided that I have the whole month ahead of me, I should just enjoy the ride I had planned.

But… On the way back I stopped and checked my time at the oasis. 1:52:45. Of course I recorded my time when I got home. 2:24:19. That means it took me 31:34. Add that to my home-to-oasis time and its only 59:04 total!

That means I met my to-oasis-and-back-sub-one-hour goal... with an extra 1 hr 25 min ride in the middle!

Nice job!!

pdbman - 2010-06-03 5:28 PM Funny how a little picture can affect posting activity. We were back by about 10 posts before Andy posted that picture. Now we're 10 ahead.

Everytime I look at your avatar, I think Arnold is disappointed in me because I didn't work harder today!

I'm going to have to change it and replace it with a leg picture after last months challenge.
yep! we are still waiting!

I suppose since we're already on page 6, I should make an appearance.  As you will notice from the avatar, the men lost the 'post the leg shot' challenge.   Haven't posted goals yet, but they're in my head.  Busy weekend: sprint tri tomorrow, then watching my daughter's track meet (state track meet qualifier).  If I have some time today, I'll post goals.

Happy Friday all!

Nope, he's disappointed in me for my lack of workout activity.

Ok. Here it is. My leg shot from this morning in my grubby work around the house sweat pants cut offs. I hope it was worth the wait. Wink  I had a thought for another leg shot but it would take a while to put together and I don't know if I will have time with my son's graduation today and getting ready to leave for a trip tonight. Maybe when I get home.
The thing that makes this picture really significant it that it is the first avatar that I have ever used that is actually me.

My challenge goal for the month was to do the oasis route in less than twelve parsecs... I mean in under an hour... twice in the month of June. So I don't feel then need to set a new goal--besides I still have my run and swim goals to work on.

In fact, I have decided not to count this ride toward my goal of doing it twice. I thought I wouldn't, but then my husband talked me into counting it. Then I thought about it some more and talked him into convincing me I shouldn't. See, the goal is to get that particular route under one hour ride time--just enough break at the oasis to stretch and chat with whomever else is there. (My July goal will be to get total trip time under an hour. Smile) The extra riding (notwithstanding the challenging crushed limestone and gravel sections) could conceivably have worked as a recovery between the two oasis legs.

I feel really good about this ride. I really pushed myself on the last leg (and several other parts of the ride), which is something I typically don't do. This a big a-ha breakthrough for me.

So it ends up not being directly part of my challenge goal, but it is related and I just really, really had to share. Smile

It seems that I didn't do an introduction.  If you care about that, by all means read on.  If you don't, kindly skip ahead to the next post.

I'm Chad.

I'm 32 by USAT age up policy.  This is my 2nd season of racing, although what I did last year really couldn't be called much more than finishing.  I don't plan to be competitive this year either, but I'd like to be a little faster.  My main goal is weight loss, but I'm not going buck wild trying to lose as much as I am just trying to get out for workouts consistantly, and get some sort of control on my nutrition.  If those happen, the weight loss will likely fall into place as well.

I have my first HIM this November (B2B half) and will look to get into marathon shape for 2011.  Depending on how I feel with the longer distance, I may consider getting up to the full deal IM race as well.

Oh, I have a nearly 2 year old son, and I work as  NICU nurse and only work Fri, Sat, Sun nights from 7p to 7a.  That is my biggest race limiter.  I can, in theory, train to my heart's content but racing means taking vacation since there aren't any Tuesday morning races or other such nonsense.

Have fun all.

Congrats on your Big A-Ha Breakthrough -- those are good moments!

My intro: I'm 44 and have been slacking so far this summer. I need something to jumpstart my exercise.

I ran a marathon and a few halfs this year, and have a few more halfs scheduled. I'm also registered for the Miami 1/2 IM in October.

I need to find my bike shoes. Literally. I have no idea where they are. However, the bike is leaning against some boxes in the garage, so at least I have that.

I also need to get into the water, as I haven't been in a pool since April.

My goal, which I have shamelessly stolen from one of you, is to do 10 sessions of each sport. This morning will be run #3.

I will trade you. It is 1 am sunday morning in Mexico City. From 5am Friday until  5 pm Saturday I had about 2.5 hours of sleep. I had a nap of about 2 hours and then back at it again. Got back from dinner and just finished a workout in the gym at the hotel. We will be up in about 6-7 hours for the day. Its been a lot of fun. The hardest part of the day, aside from trying to find my way out of the airport, is figuring out this spanish keyboard. Its been a lot o fun though. I hope to get another workout in Monday and maybe Tuesday morning, then probably won't be able to get aother one in until I get home next week.
