Extreme Veteran 364 | Subject: RE: September North-South Swim and/or Bike Challenge nails - 2011-09-10 3:09 AM Come On NORTH! we have a right now, we can't have that! I know we don't really have any incentive to win because we all look stunning in our tri-gear fresh off the swim so we have no fear of posting the pix but come on!! Hmmm... glad to be in the "cruisin' with nice T.I.T.S" column, I think... Anyway, never fear team north! With any luck I'll be able to jump to that overachievers range with a 50 mile ride i got invited to tomorrow (previously unscheduled or accounted for in my training plan) I can hardly wait! I know it won't help much once I hit 110% of training which I most likely will in bike hours now, but oh well. If we can create some separation in total percentage complete, we just might be able to crack team South's will to continue and force an early surrender! **Was that dramatic enough???** :P And by the way, I do look stunning in my tri gear if I do say so myself, but I'd rather put up an avatar of my choosing, so LET'S GO TEAM NORTH!!! Extreme Veteran 364 | Subject: RE: September North-South Swim and/or Bike Challenge Oh, and another thing... what's up with this post being at the top of page 6??? Depending on your location in the world it's either the start of September 10, or the evening of the 9th as I'm writing this. I've been away from BT for a while (I know... I saw the error of my ways and was drawn back to the tri lifestyle where I belong) but when I did challenges before there was a lot more trash talking/motivating going on here! Now let's ramp up the rhetoric so that we can all stay motivated/angry (whatever works) and sear the paint off the pool/tar off the road with all of our laps/miles!!! |

Master 2177 | Subject: RE: September North-South Swim and/or Bike Challenge There is potential for cramming sessions in my next couple weeks in fear of pics of me in tight gear. This week's weather canceled a swim class, which canceled a bike session since I wallowed in self pity in my bathing suit on the floor. I'm such a baby about my plans getting mussed up. I'm working on this, I swear. |

Extreme Veteran 668 Melbourne | Subject: RE: September North-South Swim and/or Bike Challenge So the blasted magpie that decided to set up a nest just up the street from my house last year has decided to do the same this year and continue it's attacks on me when leaving my house on the bike again, got hit twice while leaving on a ride today and once when coming home. In other news, I'm starting to really find the love for the bike again and I've really missed the pool during my injury time. |

Well I don't know about team South...but I am WAY too busy searing the paint off the pool/tar off the road to spend more than once or twice a day trash talking |

Master 1989 New Jersey | Subject: RE: September North-South Swim and/or Bike Challenge Updated my totals on the spreadsheet. But while I was there, I noticed how the totals are working, and it's actually skewed because we're simply summing up different units - i.e. yards plus sessions. Take the following made-up scenario. Both Teams consist of 2 people - one person says they'll swim 8000 yards, and one says they'll swim 8 sessions. And we'll take it step further and even say each session is 1000 yards, so in reality, both are setting equal goals. Now in Team North, the 8000y person swims 75% of his goal - 6000y. And the 8 session person does 25% - 2 sessions. Team South does the opposite...8000y person swims 25% or 2000y, while 8 session person does 75%, or 6 sessions. In reality, both teams are equal. But the way the spreadsheet would calculate this is: Team North Goal is 8000 + 8 = 8008 Team North Completed is 6000 + 2 = 6002 Percent complete = 6002/8008 = 74.95% Team South Goal is 8000 + 8 = 8008 Team South Completed is 2000 + 6 = 2006 Percent Complete = 25.05% In this scenario, both teams have completed the exact same amount of their goal. Back to reality and our totals...If we were to take the average of all the individual completion percentages, then guess what....TEAM NORTH IS IN THE LEAD!!! For both swimming and cycling!!! Case closed! You Southerners better start getting yer swim pics ready. |

I swear, this is why I shouldn't be allowed to start shyte challenges, I always screw it up!!! (and wind up killing my team with me ...) sigh ... I will go check and beg for help if needed. |

Too bad that ruins all of Donto's cool work on winning/losing ... and it's a good thing I didn't mention anything about the TEAMS on my not-so-random challenge update ... soooo ... NORTHIES : 20.4% SOUTHERNERS: 18.somethingIforget % Dude. Southerners. This is the first time in MONTHS I'm not killing my team ... help me out here! Also, once the no-shows actually remember to log on the spreadsheet (perhaps I shall visit their logs to "encourage" them, ahem) that should make a significant difference. |

Know for the excuses not excuses just life. I had my second boy 3 weeks ago and I'm still trying to adjust. Little ones are some much fun. I join this challenge to keep me honest and have fun. For the good news South I was able to get two swims in this weekend and one bike ride. Now I'm on a roll.

Master 2042 Albany, NY | Subject: RE: September North-South Swim and/or Bike Challenge Good morning! Sorry I've been a little quiet on the thread this month... just really busy trying to get a promotion at work and getting the kid back to school, soccer, girl scouts, etc. I did get my half century in yesterday and it felt pretty good! Or would have felt good if I wasn't hanging back with my friends for part of it. They were totally shot about half way through and I couldn't get any momentum on the downhills to get up the uphills and then had to crawl up the uphills... but I love 'em and hung with them for a while! After all we were doing it as an opportunity to get together. But when they started walking their bike up hills with 8 to go, they took pity and told me to meet them at the end. Now I just need to get my butt to the pool... |

I have a little girl that's miserable when I'm not home! Tomorrow is swim class, and I'll be able to get the 2nd half of a bike session then since husband will come with kids. Yay! |
