Glad to know that it's normal for training plans to sometimes go unaccording to plan as I've just taken 5 days out of the last 6 off due to a vacation and feeling pretty guilty about it (especially the alcohol consumed!), but, my schedule is clear now for all the way up to raceday and I'm raring to crank my training up a notch!

On the bright side my shins are feeling much better thanks to the rest as they were threatning to cause me real problems which isn't ideal as I'm running Boston next month!

Battle on!

Haven't really thought about it, have to get through AZ in 2 1/2 weeks, then I'll worry about CDA!!!!
Good luck to all, keep your sanity, it's just a long training day with 2000 of your closest friends.

Damn dude!  You're doing Arizona, CDA, and Wisconsin!  We're not worthy.

I spent my time on a flight to Chicago writing out the next three months of training.  Got some epic weekends coming up!

If you were doing the "13 weeks to a 13 hour IM" program day 1 would be today.  Lots of time left.

Thanks for that perspective, T.  Helps me sort things out in my head after a terrible weekend.  One thing that worries me is that the biggest problem I had with the bike course this weekend was hills....and from the course profile, it looks like it is LESS hilly than CDA, unless I'm reading something wrong.

Hills are part of CDA course but not terribly tough.  More steep, but short.  I did one lap of the course over the weekend...you will get out of the saddle, but it is not for miles and miles.  The longest grade is when you turn from E. Riverview onto W. Riverview.  Sustained grade for probably 1.5 miles, but you could handle it in granny gear....in the saddle.  Nice thing about hills is the OTHER side!!  You are going to do fine.  See ya in 13 weeks.

Official CDA Tour Guide.

Course profiles can be deceiving.  CDA has hills but they are really not that bad.  Like Brian said the long one is only about 1.5 miles, the real hard one is about 3/4 miles.  However, now that I see the course map from this weekend it all makes sence.  What were you thinking racing on a course that had a road named Purgatory, you had to know that it would be Hell.

Highway 32, right before Purgatory, is called The Devil's Backbone.  Pretty well-known hills around Central Texas.  But seriously, without dwelling on it too much, the profile from this weekend looks tame compared to CDA, and trust me, it was a bitch.

Look at it this way.  The top 10 finishers at the Texas Tri averaged 21.91 mph over the 25 mile bike course.  At IMCDA the top 10 averaged 23.07 mph in 2005 and 22.29 mph in 2004.  IMHO an Ironman course that gives a faster average speed has to be easier (less hill impact).

Hey-

Concentrate on the positive.  You got through this weekend and have 12+ weeks to prepare for IMCDA.  You will be suprised at the CDA course.  There is ample time for recovery (even coasting) after every hill.  It is almost a gradual downhill from 11th to 1st and down Northwest Blvd.  You will be fine!

Sorry for the newbie question but can anyone give me some advice as to which kind of wetsuit I should buy/rent for CDA? Is they somewhere you can buy/rent at the expo or is that a bit risky? I'll probably be doing most of my post CDA racing in the UK so I guess something on the warmer side is better.

As to budget I'd want to go mid price, I want something good but not willing to break the bank!

Any advice appreciated.

Danken

BT offers a discount on Promotion brand wetsuits. I have a sleeveless from them that I use. I think its a good product. They have full suits as well. Good pricing.

That's what I'm talkin 'bout.

86 days.

Attitude shift has taken place. I'm feeling it already. At first I thought I didn't have enough time, now I realize that I have more than enough.

State those goals boys (and girls). What do you want to change in 86 days? For me, I expect to be a cool 12 pounds lighter. Man, I can't wait to be 165 pounds. I'm bringing my scale with me Once I get there, I'll have lost 50 pounds! I'm gonna tell Jared the sammich boy to kiss my @$$!

Very good attitude Finster!  Thanks, because I think we could all use the positive vibes!  As for me, I hope to be about 20 pounds lighter myself...that would put me down 110 lbs since last January when I started all this crazyness!  I'm on a plateau, so it may be unrealistic that I'll lose that much more, but hey, I can dream, right??

Also, I hope to have my equipment problems worked out by then or I'm in BIG trouble!!
