ugh, i was once leaving a party just as David Lee Roth showed up. we passed on the stairs. (TIP: you know that you have taken a wrong turn somewhere in life if you are attending the same social function as David Lee Roth.)

Most famous person I've actually hung out with -- and this was in THIS lifetime, not that former one mentioned above -- would probably be James Taylor. But I was also pretty happy to meet Seiji Ozawa right after a wonderful concert he conducted, and to take classes from certain famous professors whose minds I respect. There are different types of famous.

THIS weekend I will meet JeepFleeb! That's going to rock my world right there.

Turns out that G. Gordon was a close guess, too. Close in a different way.

I'm still friends with this man (the son). I don't think he'd appreciate this much (unless I mentioned he was a stallion). Think I should just drop it - I had no idea it would become a beer drinking game.

Not really sure.  He said something to me in Spanish when I told the guard to make sure "Manny" had access to everything he needed, but I'm not sure that counts as a "conversation".  Silly dicatator.

Renee - 2006-01-13 12:08 PM

Hah! Did you have a conversation or did he just glare at you?

Stake - 2006-01-13 11:03 AM

I met Noriega too.  Of course he was being held at Quantico at the time.  Heh...

Renee - 2006-01-13 11:48 AM

Manuel Noriega. His niece was on our swim team. Decades ago.

It's really interesting to read all the people we have meet.  I am forunate (if you want to call it that) to work in two fields where I work with/meet lots of people.  Mainly, I have a list of athletes.  All the people are or were cool to work with unless they have an asterick.

Baseball

  • Mike McFarland
  • David Howard
  • Terry Penddleton
  • George Brett (i actually worked rehab on his son)
  • Nolan Ryan (my uncle was the head baseball coach at a college in TX.  Nolan would come in and pitch BP to the guys.)

Basketball

  • Bobby Knight
  • Steve Fisher and the Fab Four ***!!!!
  • Nick Collison (Supersonics) - I babysat him.  His dad was my biology/PE/coach in H.S.
  • Kirk Hinrick (Bulls)
  • Kareem Rush (Charolette)**
  • JaRon Rush (UCLA)**!!

Football

  • Emmet Smith - meet him in the Philadelphia airport
  • Marcus Allen
  • Scotty Vines (Detroit) - I worked with him when he still played hoops.
  • Antwaan Randle El (Pittsburgh)

Track & Field

  • I work with a lot of current and former USA and foreign Olympic hopefuls.  I actually hangout with the throwers more.  I work with them on sport biomechanics.

Entertainment

  • Jodi Messina
  • Cheryl Crow (pre_lance)
  • Mark Wills
    • The junior college I worked for held annual concerts and the performers usually hung out in the gym, lounge, or worked out prior. So I spent a good portion of my day with the above three people
  • Ernie Henderson -Ghostbuster- only meet this guy on a plane flight
  • David Soul - Starsky and Hutch

Political

  • Ronald Reagan
  • Robert Dole
  • John Connally
  • George Bush (father)
  • Howard Baker
    • I meet all these guys at the Iowa Caucasus when I was in junior high.  I was the representative of my entire school (K-12) because I won a "Ask the Candidates" contest that the Des Moines Register held.

Not sure what qualifies as "met," but if at least invading their personal space, making eye contact, saying hello, or having a brief conversation counts, my list is:

Chubby Checker (actually, I did The Twist with him)
Wayne Gretzgy
Michael Jordan
Ron Harper
Dr. J
Jon Stewart
All of Smashmouth
Beyonce
Jay-Z
Brian McKnight
Morgan Freeman
Kathy Bates
Renee Zellweger
Edward Norton
Kevin Spacey
Mel Gibson
Diane Sawyer
Charlie Gibson
Ming-Na
Winona Rider
Whoopie Goldberg
Benecio Del Toro
Michael Douglas

Of course, I cheated - I used to have jobs that put me in contact with these people.

So, have we not successfully guessed the name of the father of Renee's defloweree?

Our clues are:

a semi-famous Watergate figure

later rehabilitated

nicknamed "evil"

not John Dean and not Liddy, though somehow related to them

The best clue, in my estimation, is the "later rehabilitated" clue, which indicated that this individual went to jail -- and that limits the field greatly. We should be able to use the other clues to pick the winner from this list:

John Mitchell
Bob Haldeman
Chuck Colson
John Ehrlichman
Jeb McGruder
Fred Larue
James McCord
Liddy
the cubans

and I had to look these guys up: the other three members of the watergate 7:
Gordon C. Strachan
Robert Mardian
Kenneth Parkinson

Huh. No name sounds like "evil" to me. So that clue doesn't help. I'm going to guess Colson; he was the most prominent of the former watergaters to become an evangelical christian afterwards.

How did I miss this Rowdy story???????

My sister and I and her best friend ogled Rowdy when he was lifting weights sometime around 1977 or 1978.  We were at a swim meet in Winter Haven. His star was just starting to rise at the time; my sister commented that Rowdy had kinda' just burst out of being an average swimmer to leading the pack. At the State Finals in 1981, held in Winter Haven that year, we ran around looking for Rowdy again (he was rumored to be there).

Swimmer's body. Rrrrowl.

run4yrlif - 2006-01-13 7:19 AM

I have a Rowdy Gaines story. The guy's always beeb kind of a hero for me. He didn't start swimming until highschool, yet became the world's best 100 freestyler not too man years later. Back in 1984, the summer before he won the 100 free at the Olympics in LA, he and Tracy Caulkins swam at an age group meet in Nashville that I swam at. This was a pretty cool thing, since I had  never swum with swimmers of that calibre.
