Who knows, the weather forecast a day ago showed perfect weather, maybe it'll shift a little bit.. I think I'm being too optimistic at this point though.

Figured out a funny way to think about it, since I got in the race with the special $199 rate, maybe that price doesn't include a swim?????? Just trying to make light of a bad situation

LOL...that's a good way to look at it!

My take is...I did Republic of Texas sprint as "practice" race....high winds, no swim.  Turns out it was better practice than I thought. :/

My take: People freaking out...... Relax. A lot can change in 4 days. Anyways, if there's no swim we have that much more energy for biking and running!

I don't understand why it would be a waste of money even if the swim is cancelled? Maybe that's just me...

Now are you inferring that the WTC can now control the weather? Wink Which makes me wonder: if they can control the weather why can't the make Ironman Perform taste good?

Not freaking out.  But perplexed as to why the RD is talking about course changes to the N.O. paper, but has communicated nothing of the sort to the athletes about any contingency plans as of yet.

Yes, the weather can change, but even the pros are tweeting about a possible duathlon already.

Anymore chatter from the locals?  I need to decide today whether I'm bailing or not.  Not worth the time or money to travel for a modified race or duathlon.

Can you send a link to the news article?  I would like to hear what he is saying.  I have to admit that the weather forecasters on weather.com have remained consistant on their forecast for Sat and Sun.  If a storm is coming thru hopefully it does so early and then everything dies down.  Either way I will be there.  Someone save me a beer at the finish line!

I would think that the athletes are more interested in this news than the general population of New Orleans.  Not like sending an email to us is that difficult.

I would think an email to participants speculating on possible course changes would do a lot more harm than good.

"abbreviated swim-bike-run, but I don’t know if that is possible. If not, I would probably do a run-bike-run"

Hmm, taking deep breath and will wait for official word.  Will save my rants for Saturday if necessary.   My guess is that they haven't sent us anything because anything they send will be partially conjecture.  Also it would probably cause so much turmoil during a time they needed to concentrate on the course setup.

Thanks for the link guys....RUN FORREST RUN!!!!!!

HHMMMM ... "if" the run-bike-run happens, would we end up doing 10K-bike-10K?  How do events usually modify when they do that?

Gary I'm there with you on the beer.  And, I sure bet Bill B is about ready for one as well ehCool

Gonna be fun no matter what this weekend I am sure (although I hope we get to swim).

This is my question. I wonder what the distances would end up being for a duathlon? Would they just add to the total like 5k / 56/ 13.1 or divide out the 13.1 somehow?

I was thinking 5k/56/10 miler.  Running more than 13.1 miles on Sunday was not in my plan.  How about 57.2 mile ride and 13.1 run?

So you're asking for guesses on distances should forecasted weather bring about a speculated chance of an indeterminate course change? I would say just go ahead and pull a number out of a hat. Last year it was a time trial bike start with 3 seconds between participants that resulted in a huge cluster **** for half the race. Hopefully they'll come up with something that will put some space between participants. I would think at least 5k.

Sunday's weather just updated from yesterday on the Weather Channel: winds went from 20 mph to 19 mph and the chance of rain dropped from 30% to 20%.  I'll take anything I can get at this point.

Jillian - Nice choice... but the fedora may be a tad shallow... I suggest a "Top Hat"... more depth and space for the numbers to fully mix!!!!

I am having a bit of a time with basing questions upon what the Race Director said to a newspaper (god knows the RD doesnt' have a clue what is going on for a race) but my vote would be a black cowboy hat!
