2112 yds is the same as 1.2mi. Plus in the pool you have the wall to push off of every 25 yds. You will also have to face crowds depending when your wave goes. So if you are in the later waves, you will be swimming into a bunch of slower people. The pros dont have to do that so if you pull off a 25 minute swim in crowded water, you are faster than the pros.

How is the swim start organized? waves or two mass swim starts? (like pros first age groupers next?)

I'm missing some trainer hours in my log, but even so... yikes. Just not enough bike time last month, but I was aware I was avoiding. Not like I'm surprised by the low total. Ok, 7 weeks to fix it.

February's totals:
Bike:11h 38m  - 171.68 Mi
Run:17h 14m  - 90.13 Mi
Swim:8h 21m  - 24850 Yd
Strength:4h 45m

Nice work all!  Wish I ran as much as runswithcrazydog. Funny how we all get a greener grass effect when posting totals.

Hey Lisa! I love this post... 7 weeks to fix whatever we've been neglecting. It's aGreat Mantra and I am Adopting it. I'm from Denver and its has been almost impossibleTo do outdoor rides. I finally got in a 30+ mi bike ride in the wind ( no, not 85 miles likeSome of you SuperHuman Athletes) but I'll just keep cranking it up and handle the headwindsJust like most, I WILL WHINE loudly, but in the wind, who will hear me, or care.See you all in 7 weeks. I believe it will be wave starts according to age groups. I haven't done this race but both longhorn and Galveston were age groups going off every 5 minute. Just hope you go in the first couple so you don't fight the traffic.

It would be nice if they would get the Athletes Guide updated on their website.

Sweet! That puts me in at 7am. That will give me a short headstart before the rest of you fly by on the bike. I'll have to post a picture of my back so y'all can recognize me and say "hey" when you pass me.

Two sides to that coin and I have been on both. I usually am early out of the water, but then I deal with lots of mad men that will buzz by me inches off my elbow to suck what little draft they can get off of me. It's unnerving and chips away at my focus as I become increasingly aggitated. That's usually just for the first chunk of miles and then I can settle in. I'm just really uncomfortable with another cyclist that close to me. When I have been in the last wave because of age group, I get to do more passing (even if it is the stragglers from previous waves, lol). Being out in front, I get passed a lot more than I pass. Kind of a mental game. It's how I entertain myself on the road.

Ugh that puts me in the final waves. I'm a semi aggressive passer though but still any collision gets the swimming groove all funky

I swam this location last year for 5150 and the start was by waves, kinda.  It was actually a time trial start jumping in from a pier, but it was done by waves if that makes any sense.  There is really no where to walk into the water so we jumped/dove in every three seconds (test your goggles if you want to dive in).

Last year, the swim was supposed to be somewhere else.  ALOT will be different this year.

I will assure you it will not be a mass start.  The RD is a hometown guy and he knows the amount of beginners in our area that make this their super bowl.  He will make it as swim friendly as can be as to not scare anyone off.  If it is not a time trial swim start, it will be a deep water wave start.  It's the only two options for the area.

I am with you in the later waves... I'm not super fast but will hopefully come out of the water around the 30-32 minute mark... Lots of dodging and with m shape course, lots of turns. Oh well. It will be a great race and I'm looking forward to racing it.

Something else you might want to prepare for; from swim exit to T1 is around .45 miles.  For 5150 therw were a bunch of people who lined up their running shoes by swim exit and slipped them on for the run.  The USAT official agreed it was illegal when I asked him about it, but said they would not enforce it.

I do not know if this will be the case for 70.3 as well, but if it is something that interests you, look into it for the athlete meeting.

A friend of mine did 5150 and I saw how long the run was to T1 (on his GarminConnect). That's tough on bare feet! Maybe I'll bring 2 pairs of running shoes... an old pair to leave at swim exit. Wouldn't want someone to run off in my shoes by mistake.

No I'm a college student (broke my arm last summer so got pushed back to this year). First year but sophomore classification. The admissions process changed this year so 50-60% know for sure Feb 28 but I had an LOA. Thanks!

And wouldn't coke or Pepsi fizziness give you GI issues while racing?
