Congrats!!!

Keep your fingers crossed.....odd numbered years have historically had relatively mild weather conditions.  The even numbered years have been brutal!!!!!!!!!

Also, hope for some rain in the days/week leading up to the race.  This will give the river an accelerated current.  My time was approx. 8 minutes slower from 2011 to 2012.

A little under 6 months out, and I had my first IMKY-related stress dream over the weekend.

Running late, forgot my running hat, bike gloves, sunglasses, sun screen. Doesn't bode well for the coming months.

Hope everyone's training is going well. Can't wait to get outside, the trainer is KILLING ME!!!

Training is going well so far, for the first time in 2 years around this time, I am not sidelined with an IT band injury. I decided to skip my usual winter marathon and it is allowing me to go into ironman training healthy.

Just got J-bends put on my Cervelo P2, it had S-bends, from the first ride the J-bends feel a lot more comfortable.

Swimming is my weak sport so I am starting a master's programs at my YMCA on Wednesday. In 2011 I saw a 1:28 at IM Lou and hoping to improve on that.

First tri of the year is a sprint on the 16th! Can't wait!

Hi Everybody!

I signed up a while ago - actually my wife signed me up and gave me the Entry Sign Up to Louisville as a Christmas Gift. How cool was that? Smile

This is my third trip to Kentucky and I am really looking forward to following everyone's Journey.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Thomas

Has anyone in the group done IMLOU and IMCDA (new bike course)?  I'm looking for some anecdotal comparison between the two bike courses as I did IMCDA last year and have that as my "IM bike" point of reference.

It's likely too late to get ready for this race but I was considering 2013, 2014 looks more realistic for me.

I had a quick question for some of the more experienced IM Distance folks.

My Felt tri bike was stolen and I was wondering if you are a 4-5 hour marathoner anyway, will the tri bike make a big difference? I remember wishing I had the extra gear during IMLKY with the rolling hills.

I know this is an age-old question, it may be more a matter of a better bike to spite your run?

Just curious.

I did this race in 2008 for my 40th birthday and it was great but it had a tough combination of being really hot (over 100 if I remember) and really humid with lots of rolling hills. You are rewarded, however, with a pancake flat run at the end.

The Convington, Ga Century ride was a lot like the Louisville terrain and I did most of my bike training in Brasstown, NC area which was pretty humid/hilly.

Good luck to everyone doing the race!!!

Just now coming out of my post-ironman funk....time to get back in the saddle.

I just got my Speed Concept back from my LBS. I had them totally revamp the drivetrain to make it more hill friendly. Replaced the cassette with a 12-36 paired to a Sram X-9 mountain bike derailleur. I scored a used Sram Red compact crank on Craigslist and its now on the front. I live in middle Tennessee so there is no excuse for not getting in my hill training! I start the BT 20 week IM plan next week. I've laid a good solid base of swimming and running since last November. The bike is my strength so it's been limited while I concentrated on my weaker links. Hail to spring and the end of trainer rides! Let IM training begin!

This depends on what you are used to.  If you're looking for a flat course this is not it.  The 1st roughly 10 miles and last 10 are flat - the rest is rolling terrain.  The worst of the hills coming about 20 miles or so into the ride.  There's an out-and-back that has a significant valley you ride down and up the other side, turn around, and repeat.  There aren't any other climbs as significant as this section.  On the plus side the run is an absolute pancake!

Hey fellow crazy people!  I have had this race on my schedule but hadn't signed up UNTIL TODAY!  I'm in.  This is my second time to The Ville.  First time was in 2010 with golfpro.  I decided to try a different race in 2011 and did Florida.  What a difference!  I am happy to be back.  I can say that the race is definitely challenging.  I can't say that we had much of a current for the swim but I didn't think it was very difficult.  The bike was definitely a challenge.  It's the combination of 80 miles of long rollers and heat that zap you.  I don't remember much of the run because I spent a good bit of the time with my head in a trash can or in a daze but I will say that the people in medical are very nice - especially when you spend 2 hrs with them.    It's all good.  Happy training to everyone!

The heat of Muncie will help you......but the bike course at Muncie isn't anything like LVille (going by the Lville profile). I did Muncie and the course is FLAAAAATTTT and fast. I had to keep ooking at my Garmin to make sure I hadn't done something wrong as I was about 3 mph faster than I had trained for.....fastest ride ever for the 30 miles of it we did.

Is the bike profile correct on the website? Only 2,060ft of climbing? That isn't much climbing. Does anyone have an actual profile from a ride they've done on course? I am registered for IMCDA but a freak injury looks like it will keep me from racing there and I'm thinking of getting in here if I get clearance from Doc.

I love hills and heat and was originally leaning toward this race but friends were doing CDA so we decided to race there instead. Now I just hope I am cleared to race here.

This will be my first IM and I am coming from Central Florida where it is FLAT FLAT FLAT, so it looks like a really hilly course to me. There is a series of 5 videos on YouTube found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5MsPaoniMk&feature=relmfuthat show the course via car. It's always difficult to tell the grade from video, of course, but the guy filming/narrating gives extra information.

I was really excited to get to this stage, especially to start throwing in some interval-type training, so I enjoyed week 1 of build (even though there were really only "pick-ups" thrown in, at least it broke it up a little). 19 weeks away doesn't really seem like very long!

Doing a half ironman this weekend, even though it's way early in training for that, the price and location was right, so I decided to sign up and use it as training.

Hope all is well for everyone else!

If they were to post the actual elevation for this course, it would discourage a lot of athletes from signing up, specially first timers. The link below will give you a certain number of elevation. But I know that number is skewed. I've seen other graphs showing a lot less. It is definitely 4500 +.It has been said numerous times, it is the constant rollers throughout the course and adding the heat and humidity that grinds on puts a toll on your body and legsIf you (anyone) stick to your training plan and put in the saddle time, everything will be fine. This will be my 3rd time back in Louisville and looking forward to it!http://ridewithgps.com/trips/378883Happy training everyone,Thomas
