Elite 2998 Fishers, Indiana | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread [email protected] - 2013-03-26 6:52 AM Hi All, we (my wife and me) have just booked our flight to Phoenix - its getting serious now We´ll be in Arizona from Nov 8th - Nov 22nd. Now we are searching a reasonable hotel room with own kitchen/kitchenette to be able to cook by ourselve if necessary. Any hints ? - most hotels offer only fridge (Days Inn etc.), but kitchen would be nice. Then about sightseeing - what else except Grand Canyon 7 months of training ahead ! cheers, erwin Go to www.vrbo.com and rent a house in the area. There are LOTS of vacation rentals available in the area and in Phoenix. You're likely to pay less, especially considering how long you plan to be there, and you'll ahve all the amenities that you're looking for, and probably more. That's what I've done when I did IMAZ in '09 and '11. |

I reserved a house, through vrbo, back in September & most of the houses/condos had already been reserved for this year. I just did a quick search of those houses/condos that are closest to Tempe Town Lake and some of the houses/condos that are already booked for Ironman week are still showing up as available. I was looking for houses that had at least 3 bedrooms. Maybe there are still some smaller places available. Hopefully you'll find something through vrbo. Also be aware that the vrbo rentals double & triple in price for Ironman week. I I suggest staying somewhere South of the event. Last year, when I volunteered, I stayed at a hotel North of the event. Trying to get back to the hotel in the late afternoon/evening was a pain! |

Also would like a 6:15 bike or less. What are you most looking forward to? Mexican food! Can't get any decent stuff in Canada. ----- |

Volunteered imaz 12 and I was on the bike course where the Marshall motorcycle hit a group of three cyclists and sent two of them to the er. Tried to put that out of my head and volunteered the next morning. So taking this race and life more seriously I am quitting smoking and drinking hopefully for ever. I picked imaz due it being so close to la. I drove last year and will again this year. I have read some but what plans are people using? |

Are you starting your training on the 23rd? I am going to start on the 29th right after coming home from vacation. As for plans, I work with a coach as I stress out too much planning my schedule. |

In Fink's plan, Mondays are rest days. So I'll start on Tuesday the 23rd. The only things that don't line up with Fink's plan, for me, are my other triathlons. I've got an olympic.distance on June 9th and a 70.3 on August 4th. But that will work better for my body overall I thinkDino019 - 2013-04-12 8:13 PM What plans are y'all doing? Member 347 Scottsdale, AZ | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Well, we're 7 months to the day from IMAZ 2013! A lot of training and suffering to put in during that timeframe... Big triathlon weekend last week here in Tempe. National Collegiate Championships on Friday and Saturday with Lifetime Tri Marquee and Leadman on Sunday. I went down to the finish line in Tempe Beach Park on Sunday and watched some of the folks finish up their Sprints, Olympics, and Leadman's. It was very hot (85-90 degrees w/ intense sun) and all I could think about was how we will most likely be completing IMAZ in similar conditions. Good luck to everyone as I'm sure most folks IMAZ training plans start pretty soon.

I wanted an easier course What are you goals for IMAZ 2013? 12-13 hours What are you most looking forward to? Flat ride and run. Of course the finish is always amazing! Veterans, any advice you can give? Be consistent with training, do your training plan, trust your training plan, be your training plan. Now the course. Break things down to smaller distances, don't think of it as 112 bike and 26.2 mile run. Remember I am not fast (See goals for IMAZ) but I always finish smiling! |

The water will be low to mid 60's (Leadman was 70s), and the air temp will be mid 60s as well. If you train in AZ through the summer for the race, race day will be a big bonus, and you will enjoy the Beeline ride much more than the training rides up and down it when the temps are hitting triple digits. Simply put - the weather in Tempe at IM AZ should be moderate - a bit windy on the bike, but heat should not be a factor. |

Pro 4824 Houston | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Egads! Coming up on six months here pretty soon. Unfortunately my training has been more miss than hit. We had our house on the market for 45 days, first offer was a good one, found a house, put in the first offer, they barely countered and now we are in the inspection phase soon to be followed by the appraisal phase, packing, moving etc. The bad news is my training hasn't really started yet. The good news is all this is happening now rather than any other time between now and November 17! Gotta look at the bright side. Spent the winter more run focussed and my last two bike rides reflect that fact, not pretty. Got myself a used compu-trainer for a great deal from a tri friend and took her for a spin the first time tonight. Having a gaggle of kids, homeschooling, working and not living in great cycling conditions means a lot of my training will be indoors. The computrainer is much better than the basic trainer, the numbers keep me motivated and honest. The new house will have a dedicated training room rather than spinning in the garage which will come in handy now-next 6 months here in Houston.

Pro 4824 Houston | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Spent last night as I have the last three years near the finish at IMTX! We had some friends out there so after my daughters swim meet, work and dinner we headed over to cheer folks in. I walked away with lots of mixed emotions to be honest At the 25 mile marker it was great to see people realizing they were almost done, many of them grinning ear to ear but this was at the 13-14 hour mark. We saw a good friend come in at 14 and a couple more just past 15. However as we were walking around we were also seeing many on the course doing the death march at 16+ hours. I had the realization that will likely be me and I hurt just watching these people. I started wondering if it is all worth it. I want to type that I know it is and end with rainbows and butterflies but honestly, I'm not there right now, wish I was. |

93 | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Keri, don't sweat it. I think everyone gets feelings like that, especially after witnessing the DNF's. i have learned that in this sport, nothing is a sure thing. i have races where i have come in feeling great, training was spot on, etc...and it wasn't meant to be. you train to podium (at least in my head i do even though i have yet to make it there) but all it takes is a pulled muscle, nutrition off, weather change, etc...and you go from expecting to place high to just try and finish or you DNF. I have also gone it feeling under prepared, tired ,etc. and i did really well....you never know. For me when i have a bad race, it just makes we hungrier to learn what happened, figure out how to correct it so it doesn't happen again, and then move on. Keep your head up, and work hard! we are under 6 months and it will be here before we know it. I am getting excited for this one! Edited by weiky 2013-05-20 9:57 AM |

I want to use a rear disc and maybe something like a 404 on the front but the LBS only has HED3' s left or HED3 front with disc rear. not sure if i should book these cause of possible wind or find something else. Also i have been riding on an 11-25t cassette with a 52-38t front gear, thinking about going larger with my front big ring since i am starting to run out of gears. what is everyone else thinking about using? i want to get this figured out soon so i can get all the cassettes switched to what i plan to race in and book the wheel-set i want to use but i am looking for advice from anyone. thanks |
