right so you smacked the guy for being a jerk. he didnt stab you, or steal your purse. its not that bad of a thing to happen to you.

not that bad of a thing to happen to you by your standards really what if it were your wife or worse your daughter... Would you "standard" change?

I dont have a wife or a daughter, I do have a 17 year old sister, and while I may want to beat the heck out of the guy who did it, i would be far less upset than if she were stabbed, or raped, or even got in a bad car accident. so no my standard of what i would call something bad happening to you wouldnt change

Ah so the only bad things are things that cause serious physical/emotional injury.  Everything else is just not that bad.

Adults in bunny suits freak me out.  I really pity all these poor kids whose parents plopped them down on some nightmarish bunny for the sake of putting a horrifying Easter picture up on Facebook.

I do not see what context has to do with anything.  It there a context where it is acceptable to put your hands on someone in an inappropriate fashion.  I will go back to, if this had been Joe Schmoe in the office grabbing one of the girls as she walked by Joe Schmoe would be looking for a job that afternoon.  Why is this OK then?

I didn't say it was ok, I said I didn't think it was that big a deal.  But the context matters because it was on a stage, in front of everyone, for entertainment value. I've seen worse on The Oscars, or The Emmys, or , or, or....

LOL that's a funny easter pic.  My bunny suit was actually a halloween gag that someone dared me to rent that suit.  I went as the pissed off and disgtuntled easter bunny... 5:00 shadow, bottle of booze, bad attitude, and all.

I've been away all afternoon.

Here's the thing. Had he done that on an airplane to a staff member of the airlines, he'd have been arrested. If he had done it at Hooters, possibly the same ... probably at least thrown out. Because he's doing it on a podium to some woman who "likes her job" shouldn't matter. From my interpretation, it's still considered the same act as if he had done it on an airplane.

And I agree with the points that have been made that it's a shame we don't see it as more than "inappropriate". I meet with men on far too regular of a basis who are getting dismissed from the university because they don't realize that their actions are actually unlawful (or at least against our code of conduct). We do men a disservice when we don't interrupt the behavior whenever we see it.

It's too late when they learn that it really is called assault (or rape, or harassment, etc.) after they've endured life-altering consequences (how many other universities are going to admit you once they've checked on why you were dismissed from your last institution?).

We've evolved as a society to realize that this sort of behavior is beyond childish. We have an obligation to step in and teach/mentor the young men in our lives so that they can catch up with that evolution. One way to do that is to call it what it is when it shows up on the interwebs.

****

I have thoughts on the chicken/egg conversation regarding women sports (WNBA, etc.) as revenue worthy, and that being a product of how we've been conditioned to view women as less than competitive. But I'll save that for another discussion. It'll pop up again down the road.

An analogy.

If you're driving your car with a BAC of .09, and a police officer doesn't stop you to ask some questions, you've still driven under the influence.
