My swim coach has had me working on distance per stroke.  I can get as low as 19 strokes per 25m.  But she talks about keeping that stroke rate, but having higher arm turnover.  Aren't those two mutually exclusive?  If I increase my turnover, won't my stroke rate go up?  I asked her and came to the understanding that she wants my pull faster, but I still can't make my brain understand how that won't increase my stroke rate.  Help?

Strokes/length only tells you if you're stretching out your stroke and gliding effectively. When you reduce your strokes/length you've effectively gotten more efficient. You can do this slow or fast. When you pair a low strokes/length with a high turnover rate it means you're going faster. 19 strokes per 25m means you're covering 1.3m per stroke. If it takes you 1 second to do one stroke (cover 1.3m) then it will take you 19 seconds to complete the 25m. If it takes you 0.5 seconds to do one stroke (higher arm turnover - but still covering 1.3m) then it will only take you 9.5 seconds to complete 25m.

Wow, that was a genius explanation!

Genius definitely taking it way too far, but tucked away some 100+ pages ago in my introduction I did mention that I was cursed with being good at math (also known as an engineer).

So I checked out the Anytime Fitness near my house yesterday. The gym was meh but is super convinient.

The big take-away from the visit, however, was that I learned about a benefit I didn't know I have through BC/BS. If I pay BC/BS $25 per month I can join any of their network of gyms for no additional cost to me. So for $25 I can use the Anytime by my house or office, plus I can join others! There is only one in Albuquerque that has a pool and it is on the other side of town. But if I'm only paying $25 a month for the gym I don't mind either driving extra for the pool or paying $5 per visit for the pools that are more convenient. I'm purty excited about this!!!!!

Bwaahahahaaaaa!

Yeah, it's good... if your an orthopod.

I think I've said this before, but I like my collarbones where they are.  WHEN I break one again, it prolly won't be at a rainy crit.  I kind of wish I didn't think about it so much now, as crits look fun, but it just got in my head these last few years!

I'll have to settle for racing vicariously through you on this one, so CRUSH IT!

Full RR expected, of course.

Yes, it does seem he'll have an advantage! haha!

Seriously though, you can't race if you're injured. Be smart, but definitely kick some tail if you do race!

Ew. Sorry about that, although it seems it was necessary.

So given that it's a given, REALLY, you should still consider it $125 saved and over just a few months that sounds like say a new bike to me

If it does rain, then the primary goal will be to finish up right.  While a podium would be awesome, getting the start in is the main point until I get to CAT 4.

The TT however I fully plan to attack with all I got!

You start in CAT 5.  To get from 5 to 4, you have to either have 10 mass starts as a 5 or you can upgrade early if you're killing it.  I do have some previous point experience from attending race skill camps and racing to where I already have credit for 4 starts.

Cat 5 is dangerous....Got taken out with 100 yards left on the sprint because people can't hold their line

I'm hoping to move up to Cat 4 by May of this year

Rad, I dabbled in some yotas today on my car-quest.

I was holding out a couple years to get the blue collar Tesla that is coming out but of course my plan got foiled so, in the interim I think I will use this short period of time to get something more of a mountain-adventure mobile. I am trying to not feel too guilty because I run to work most of the time, making my footprint not quite so awful. But I'm looking at Subarus mostly as of now.

DH got a new (to him) truck last week. He's ordered new wheels and is getting tube doors for his birthday next week.

Seems like 90% of the people here in CO have either an SUV or a Subaru.   We have a RAV4 as our only car.  I sometimes think about getting something smaller since most of our driving is around town but it's kind of nice to (a) only have 1 vehicle to feed and maintain, and (b) it's nice to have a slightly bigger vehicle for toting the beasts around or for trips to the mountains (which also frequently include toting said beasts).

Peace out!

Dear me.  I'm so sorry to hear about the cupcake.  What a horrific experience.

Cool beans!!

Aaaand, on top of that DS1 finally got his own phone plan so my monthly expenses have gone down about $125 in the last 24 hours!

ETA: of course there is the new truck payment we took on last week

Ew. Sorry about that, although it seems it was necessary.

So given that it's a given, REALLY, you should still consider it $125 saved and over just a few months that sounds like say a new bike to me

Yeah... I started thinking along the lines of how to spend it until I rememberd the truck

Cool news about the gym. That is great! What is this about a truck?

Well, I would say having one car, even if it's a little bigger is much better than two in terms of environmental impact.

Considering I try to make the world, or at least the retail world, a better more sustainable, energy efficient place I put a little more pressure on myself to practice what I preach. Which is why I bring it up. My car before was a TDI which was awesome because it got about 45 mpg and I was able to fuel it with biodiesel.

Here's a fun tidbit, for the longest time I thought that RAV4 was pronounced rava. I misread the 4. For like, 10 years. lol

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
