Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Barloworld Team Thread Josh, I guess this makes you King of the Mountain (Bike). But know that in my eyes, you already are!!! Just goes to show ... the newbies let NOTHING get them down. You are a superstar! So sorry about the Cannondale ... fingers crossed. I know how I would feel if rogue wildlife attacked my bike. Oh, and in response to madcow's diseased ramblings: Puleeeeze. This is what day 2???? We'll see how long you stay at the top. In fact I haven't checked today's race results. For all I know Hunter has abandoned. BTW, very impressive 45 minutes of riding...the last 3 days pucker...smoooch
Daaaaamn straight--46 minutes actually--newbie knows how to read numbers AND the rules!

Royal(PITA) 14270 West Chester, Ohio | Subject: RE: Barloworld Team Thread Josh, Sorry to hear about the Cannondale. Here's hoping they come up with something else for you to work with. You've got the "spirit award' locked up for pressing on with the mountain bike or gym bikes. Hey, will your car insurance cover the bike since it was on the car at the time of the deer ran into the vehicle? That might get you some new wheels to work with. Judi |

Veteran 261 | Subject: RE: Barloworld Team Thread Update - Ride 2 of 12 complete on one of the gym bikes. I was forced to only do 30 minutes as the bikes are done in those time slots and I BARELY got a time slot. I made the most of it: Time - 30 minutes Distance - 9.2 miles Avg Cadence - 95 Avg Speed - 18.4 mph Tomorrow I am going to try and get double time slots together and crank out a 20 miler, but I also have to run tomorrow too, so we shall see. Update on bike situation --- Car insurance says they won't cover it. Homeowners WILL cover it but I was warned that my homeowners insurance premiums would SKYROCKET all for $1100 to replace my bike, so we shall see on that. The wife and I are thinking about saving up slowly and buying from bikesdirect.com early next season. I only have 2 tris left this season (august 12 and 18th) and I have bikes lined up for BOTH races. Also, my goggles have mysteriously disappeared, but I think the wife is going to let me buy them before next season, muwhahaha. Josh |

You do everything with such grace and cheer. Man, you lift my spirits. And those of total strangers, too. Plus, you're famous. You were in the newspaper!!!

I whole-heartedly believe that we get back what we put in, you know what I mean? That being said, check out the e-mail I just got from a local tri friend.. '''I'm going to bring my new frame by later this week to see if it's compatible with your parts... if you're interested we can see about moving your components (cranks, gears, derailers, brakes, seat) over. I'm buying used wheels from Chris Curro this weekend anyway, so I'll have a spare set of wheels to put on my frame. A couple tires and tubes and you've got a functioning bike. It'd be a little heavier (its steel) but seriously, 3-5 pounds of bike weight-- we can lose that much weight in a week or two. ''' Talk about touching! Even if Matt's bike doesn't work out, it means SO much that he is willing to help me out like that. Friends like him make it easy to keep up a good spirit! That being said, I am so going to bust the hell out of my 12 rides.. Josh |

Royal(PITA) 14270 West Chester, Ohio | Subject: RE: Barloworld Team Thread What a great friend. That is so cool he'd get an old frame together with your parts to come up with something you could ride. Sorry about the car insurance. I had asked a friend when I bought my bike and she said it did cover, guess i depends on the policy and where you are in the country. I was supposed to swim at 5:30, had a splitting headache so I went back to bed. Plan on swimmimng, lifting and riding today. |

Master 3546 Millersville, MD | Subject: RE: Barloworld Team Thread That sux about the car insurance. Heck - it was damaged in a car accident. If someone else had hit your car with the bike on it, and the bike was ruined, pretty sure their insurance would be covering the bike too. I wouldn't let the matter drop without a fight. |

Subject: RE: Barloworld Team Thread K, folks - who's riding today? I will not be, but I rode yesterday and will be riding tomorrow evening (weather permitting - this is DC, land of freak thunderstorms) as well as Thursday morning. Swim/run tonight - gotta train the other sports too! And hopefully will knock off 2 more rides this weekend - not sure of length, but hoping for a longer one on Saturday - we are rearranging the kitchen to situate all of my stuff, plus it's just gross and needs and overhaul. So I may go out rather early to get in a good one, plus it'll be cooler then. |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Barloworld Team Thread It's so great to know what you guys are up to--thanks for posting! Robbie Hunter of Barloworld placed FIFTH in Stage 3, the longest of the TdF. YAY! Yanti Ardie, also of Barloworld, celebrated TdF Stage 3 by biking the longest distance of her life--somewheres around 32 miles!!! Not bad for a chica with cruiser bars, a frog horn, and running shoes. On the way out, I had a nice long warmup, did a little cadence ladder (60rpm to 70, 80, 90) ... in the middle of the 90s I noticed that I was within sight of the Manhattan Beach Pier, which previously was the longest I'd biked ... so I made a run (or a cycle) to shoot a ways past it. I only had 2 hours to bike and was already well past 1, but ... So I blew past the Pier, turned around at 1:16 and just hammered it. Made it back in 50 minutes. BEST RIDE EVER. DoloresM2 and I have been very frustrated with our long rides as of late, and I've never gotten a high from biking (unlike running) so I'm pretty effen stoked. |

Master 3546 Millersville, MD | Subject: RE: Barloworld Team Thread Congrats to barlo-ers in this thread on their long/best rides. Loved hearing about pushing past the previous landmark... and riding in style on your bike, however TDF un-worthy it looks. My recovery ends Wednesday, and I've got an easy 90 minute ride planned. Then on Friday I preview the Savageman course, where I will either come close to death, or hopefully, survive and register upon realizing I'm capable of this (pretty sure I am). |

Veteran 261 | Subject: RE: Barloworld Team Thread Ride 3 of 12 complete, damn I should have set my goal higher.. oh well, no harm in OVERachieving. Tonight was a quick 10.2 mile clip on the gym bike since I am still without my own bike. I again focused entirely on cadence and found that my pace continues to quicken. I put in a request at the gym to have them allow me to sign up for an hour timeslot, but it was declined. So as it is now I am limited to 30 minutes at a time and if another bike is open (which tonight it was not) I can jump on there. Since there was no other bikes open I just jumped off of the bike and started running until my time ran out. I only got in 1.75 miles on the run, but had I had more time available to me I would have knocked out at least another 2-3 miles. We finally got the loaner car from the collison repair center, which means I'm now cruising around in a 2008 PT Cruiser, royal blue.. wooohooo. I am taping a bunch of the TdF stuff in hopes that one day by the end of the year I will have time to watch them, haha. Check out what my schedule for today looked like: 6:30am - Awake, Breakfast 7:00am - Off to work 3:30pm - Off of work 3:45pm - Pick up wife from work, go to bank 4:00pm - Drop wife off at 2nd job 4:15pm - Pick up nephew/nieces for babysitting 4:30pm - Eat preworkout meal 5:00pm - Feed kids 5:30pm - Pick up loaner car 6:00pm - At gym 7:45pm - Leave gym 8:00pm - Pick up wife from 2nd job 8:15pm - Drop off rental car (out of town) 8:30pm - Home, fix food for wife and kids 8:45pm - POOP Now - Posting on BT, in bed by 10... Woooohoooo, I love being busy. Josh |

Master 3546 Millersville, MD | Subject: RE: Barloworld Team Thread methinks wurkit's path was not dry at all. Very possible that she is soaked as well. MAN did it rain here yesterday. I have no doubt my ride tonight will be an obstacle course of downed branches, sandy turns, etc. How are we doing (in BT world, not the TDF) in the overall standings? |

I'd be down maybe for the 21st - this Saturday is out as I'm re-organizing our kitchen and the last Saturday of the challenge, I'll be at the beach - and without internet (since beach motels tend not to have them and I don't have a, so I couldn't log rides even if I brought my bike). Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Barloworld Team Thread WOOOO HOO! Robbie Hunter of Barloworld comes in SECOND in Stage 4 of the Tour de France! He ain't just in the articles now--he's in the headlines! He has moved up to 30 in the overall standings. This is, essentially, by incredible strategy in the tip of the peloton, since the other inexperienced Barloworld newbies aren't able to surround him/lead for him/form a train/etc. They've done pretty well in working for him for the majority of the ride, though, just not at the end (where it's really critical!) so Robbie has done an unbelievable job of riding off the formations of the other teams and blowing through at the end. Here at BT, we are thrusting ourselves at the front of the stage as well. Not sure what official standings are (1st official reporting is Monday) but will give an internal report end of today. Let's just say ... everybody knows who we are!!! GREAT WORK EVERYBODY!!! |
