Hello all..

Okay...this week I'm going to get serious. My daughter told me my stomach was getting big! Now...I was sitting in a chair, but still!

I did 45 mins in the pool and a 45 min run...L1-L2. I like this L training! The run felt great! I could have ran 1/2 hour longer, but I want to get a good workout in tomorrow on the bike.

Have a great weekend!

Happy Sunday.

ctnord - 2008-01-12 10:45 AM Hi Tim, I haven't been active, but I am hangin out here and training! I had a ton of questions about heartrate, training, etc. There is a link on this site that is hours worth of reading, but you'll learn a ton about Heartrate training and Lactate threshhold training. I found it very useful. See my HR goes directly to 180+ with about anything I do. Here's the link...I've never done this so hopefully this works. If not then you can search forums and type in heartrate the truth..make sure you choose all post to search from. This is a 2-3 year old running thread..but still being kept alive. The auther is Mike Ricci...you can also search by him. Note - make sure you start off at the top and have a couple hours to read! Best of Luck.. T P.S. ...I see we have another T:-) Sometimes I'm called T Dog

That's funny!  Tbatt and T dog..

I had a great ride today! No asthma attack to mention of.. I was breathing pretty hard.  I answered the phone while I was on the bike.  That person owes me $5.99 for his one minute phone call Kiss

I am feeling more confident on riding the flats in IMCDA.

How did everyone do today?

Tomorrow I shall run in the snow. Or I shall bike indoors. Or I shall do both. Or I shall do neither.

It's good to have concrete plans.

Hi everybody,

just heading back to Ohio (crap weather) after a week in the keys, and my 1st thought is what in the heck did I do on vacations before these (addicting) triathlons?? Its pretty sad when every day is geared around what workout to do. I had to limit some workouts after promising my wife I would not kill the entire vacation (year for that matter) training. That was her only stipulation on signing up for the IMKY is we still have to have "fun" outside tri races and training. I "officailly" know I'm an addict (tri's) when after drinking way too much on Thursday (with a grade/high school friend I see about every 5 yrs) the 1st think the next morning/afternoon I get on the bike still not feeling well and bike 20 miles. IM SICK!! LOL Oh well enough about me, I can't wait to get to know everyone aliitle better and hopefully meet you all at some point this year.

Welcome back!! I hope the vacation went well and you were able to have a blast with your family!! One thing I try to keep in my mind is "You do what you can do, when you can do it". Don't sweat it too much if you miss a workout here and there. Being consistent is the key to IM training! That being said, if you do miss a workout try to miss the shorter ones and not the long runs/rides.

Happy training!!!

Wanted to do nothing today..but the trainer always looks appealing when: a) there is a football game on , b) 3 yr old has jacked the BigScreen with The BackYardigans, c)newborn sleeping in Mama's arms and d) I finally moved the old furniture out of garage and I can find my trainer/bike/TV arrangement.  I could tell it's been a long time though.

Bob:

Any other tricks besides biking at 3am that you have for balancing family life with tri-training?  Last season my wife's idea of support was not busting my balls about training...this year she seems to be a bit more supportive.  In fairness to her, this tri stuff came out of no where, so maybe she was not as prepared.  I do my best to not steal from family time, but it's tough.

You got the right idea with your trainer set-up Tim. The first thing is to make training as convenient as possible so that when a training opportunity arises you're not spending it setting everything up.

Swimming is a hard one just because you are a slave to the times that the pool is open. Running you can usually just run out the front door and go without wasting time. It's also important to remember that 20 minute runs are a good workout. Nap time, right after bed time or anytime you can get away with permission from your wife for 20-30 minutes work great for a run.

Your wife's support is so important. My first season was tough, the training was "my thing" and I had to find "my own time" to do it. Hence the 3am workouts. Now she knows how important it is to me and will throw me out of the house to train because my stress level comes down a few notches when I get back!

You'll find the time Tim! Enjoy the family and remember to get in touch with me when you come up this way so we can get a workout in together!!

At this time I have my single status to help with my schedule.  But I also have a life and my friends do mean the world to me.  You know training gets serious and busy when your friends send you an e-meeting request for dinner to your work email.  When they start to starve for my beautiful presence I send them my schedule for the following week and they understand how much my training is important.

Tim, I think you are doing fantastic in your balance.  When do we get to see more pics??

Now, my next question, Bob how long should my recovery period be?

First race of the new year....    A trail run 25K in Angel Island overlooking San Francisco...   Great venue, course was runnable although hilly.   I managed to clock 2 hours and 33 minutes,  I did finished strong.    There were some really steep hills and they hurt going up and they also hurt coming down..

first week of IM training was great....  Next week won't be as good.   I am traveling to sunny Florida on the weekend.   I will try to clock a swim or a run somewhere there, although I know it will be a very very short one or maybe it won't be even possible...

How was your weekend guys?

Nice run Luis!!! It's great to hear your first week of IM training went well. Get what you can in while you're in Florida and if it doesn't happen look at it as a recovery week from your first week of IM training!

I had a PR 10K this weekend, 40:01! For a swimmer I thought that was pretty good. I met my goal of breaking 41:00 before spring, next week I hope to meet the other goal for the year and break 40:00!

Today's workout didn't go so well. I ended up choosing a good nights sleep over waking up at 4:30 to ride the trainer. Oh well, I'll get a good long run in tomorrow morning!

My coach has re-done my training paces after my PR yesterday. I am not sure if I'm excited or terrified about the new paces but I know there will be a lot of pain associated with them.

Let's hear how everyones weekend was!! Amy, how did the 8000 IM go this weekend?

I did 4.35 mile run yesterday then went to the mtns with my son to enjoy the fresh air.  Didn't get to train today, but we did hike up some pretty steep areas for about a mile.  It was nice and relaxing (although the dog pulled really hard on the leash, so it wasn't leisurely).  Back in the big saddle tomorrow.

Good Morning BT'ers.

Got up at 6 am and ran 5 miles.  I am usually not a morning trainer but I thought it might make for a good morning.  After working out the kinks, it was a pleasant treadmill run, varying inclines and speeds.  Certainly not a PR pace, but at start to the day.

Wow already on a Monday morning.  I feel lazy!

I've been told an incline of 2% is equivalent to running on the road.  I can feel it for sure.. My next trick is finding something similar to hill training. . . . Jacksonville, Florida = flat.

That is about right.  I was looking at something earlier today that indicated that 1% grade was about the equivalent of the wind resistance of road running.  It varies over the spectrum of speed but overall it was about correct.

BTW, I felt quite lazy as well.

Hello race fans!!!

Added to my am run with a nice lunch time 45 minute spin.  Great heart rate, average of _____.  Why blank you ask, because I some dolt forgot to bring it to class (read between the lines, dolt=JBD).  Anyway, good class, lots of strength runs (ie crank up the tension).  I feel so good now that I think I will pass out.
