Trevor- you are going to do GREAT!  I saw your post in tri-talk and didn't want to add conflicting advice...but....don't eat a HUGE meal on Saturday nite, eat a really good meal on Friday night and then eat good but smaller meals without too much fiber on Saturday.  Especially since you are doing a destination tri...you might not get great rest on Sat night anyway, no need to add indigestion to inevitable nervousness.

Janet- wtg on signing up for the first tri...remember, like our mentor Steve Wbkrun says    "you only have one first tri, so enjoy it!"

btw Steve, when you trained for your first HIM, did you do a BT plan?  I'm thinking the volume on this plan I am in the first week of is quite heavy?  I'm improvising a little since it's a 20 week plan.  But I'm determined to do all of the bike workouts on the plan.

I have to be honest Kim.... I am not a guy that likes using plans (I am a huge planner, and need to know what I am going to eat for lunch on Sunday before I leave work Friday!).  I find that life throws too many curveballs, and you can't adapt to plans then it wouldn't make training very fun! What I do is use training plans as a guideline and go from there... I would look at a schedule on Friday (already knowing what long workouts I had for the upcoming weekend) for the next week and plan it out that way.... I was very meticulous about the weekends!  I feel like those long workouts are the most important... PHYSICALLY, MENTALLY, NUTRITION WISE, ETC!!!

I used Going Long for training advice, and also had a training coach for a while... My wife and I packaged up with this guy just to get the basics down.

I would say on Average training for Ironman I was putting in about 10-15 hours a week of training,  now keep in mind most of this was on the weekend.... Welcome to the world of Endurance Sports!!  Some of the training that I have coming up for a 50 miler I want to do calls for me hitting the trails at 11pm, and running for 7-8 hours in the woods (not fast or super far, but more to get your body used to being out in the dark, working out when your body only knows to be sleeping, and to not to go crazy from sleep deprivation-- I am currently looking for friends to join me!!)

Take a second to read this about Training guides... I THINK IT IS VERY HELPFUL

Janet...Congrats on signing up for your first tri.  I know you are excited about this as it is finally time for a little reward for all your hard work.

Trevor...Good luck this weekend.  You will do great. have fun.

Steve...Just how do you guys vote for Mayor of your club?  Hell, we don't have 30k in our town.

I know the weather is starting to turn for all you Northern folk and I know you guys are ready to get outside and spin your wheels!  I am starting to feel a little excitement myself, as it is really warming up again here in AL this week and the flowers are starting to bloom.  Spring is in the air.

This past Oct when I decided that I would do a tri, there was this little thought in the back of my mind that something might happen and I may fall out of training and just not make it.  Well, I think I am WAAAY over the hump and starting to make some gains and see improvement.  I have to give alot of the credit to all you guys for keeping the motivation up.  This site and this group in particular have been SUPER.

congrats on signing up Janet. That's the final commitment to making sure you are going to race. Once you spend the money it just doesn't make sense not to go.

Oh yeah!!!!!   Swweeeeet Jeezus. I just had my back waxed getting ready for the spring/summer and forgot how much it hurt. No bikini lines for me Maybe I'll just go back to being a silver back.

Nothing to contribute, just trying out a new browser for my bb storm. Steve, saw you just got a pearl - you should check out the Bolt browser. Very handy for sites that aren't mobile friendly. No baby, doc today said my wife would be in for her checkup next week. Conflicts with info from last week but I guess that's why they call it "practicing" medicine

I signed up for my first Olympic distance a couple of days ago.  I'm pretty excited about it but that was short-lived as soon as I finished my first brick in about 3 months......  To say it was ugly is an understatement.

Anyways, I was on my spin bike at home the other day and after an hour, I got really bored so I decided to spin backwards.  Not at a very high rpm (maybe 60 rpm), but with  a good amount of resistance and it made it a little more exciting.  I don't think it'll help my performance on any tri's but I figured if it keeps me on the bike a little longer, it couldn't hurt

At 30,000 people belonging to your club ...that's the size of a small town.  Just thought a club like that would have a mayor

I got you beat on the weather!!!  I am so excited!  Already have a 50 miler for the bike on Saturday morning and hopefully will be out for a few hours running on Sunday.

I too am a TM klutz.  Running on the TM did teach me that I don't hold a constant speed when I run outside.  Don't know if that is good or bad....

Janet,  awesome!!!!   I'll be  the race organizers will send out emails asking for swim times.

Trevor, best of luck and have a great time!

Way to go Nick. I still haven't signed up for my first Olympic. I guess I should do that pretty soon.

Ok I have now registered for my first Olympic to be held right here in my home town of Guelph Ontario on June 21. I also registered to do a super sprint or Try-a-Tri on June 7. This was my first ever tri last year and I want to do it again just for fun and to see how much improvemnt I have made in the past year.

Hi Kids!

I have had the best day and it is only noon CST!  Did my 3rd time trial in my bike class and improved my Watt output by 22% and finally did it over 20mph.  Then I flew to the pool on my magic carpet (not really!) and did my 20 minute straight swim and it seemed easier (note, not easy).  I used the "don't think" method which is a good idea for me in the pool when I am trying to do something like this.   Hope this doesn't sound like bragging, I'm just HAPPY!

Enjoy the day.

Will the ice be off the pond in mid June in Canada?  This will be just a primer for the HIM.

Maybe making up for 8mi tempo run that I missed yesterday due to the rest of my family giving me the creeping crud...

Saturday I have to get my bike out for a decent ride to see how my fit works.

Sunday 11mi long run, first running race of the season coming up real soon.
