I'll be on the trainer riding some kind of Computrainer course for 90 miles. At least I'll have some movies or tv shows to watch to keep me company.

Evidently I need to make sure I'm logged on as me and not my wife when I try to post

Today my little girl (she is almost 9) said "Mommy one day I am going to do the triathlon with you.... but you know I am going to be faster, because you are going to be old!"... but ever the sensitive girl she said "you know what, I'll hang back with you so we can be together" .    Happy spring holidays peeps

So who will be stuck on the trainer tomorrow for their long ride??

100% chance of rain for NYC so that means I'll be spending three and a half hours on the trainer with Coach Troy and his Lake Placid DVD!  eek! I am going to check how hard it is raining 'cause if it's not a complete downpour I may head out to Central park for the ride, or at least part of it.

Happy Weekend Training everyone!

I'm going to ride 2:20 in the rain. 3:30 on Sunday but the sun will be out.

I figure it will only make me mentally tougher, or a lunatic . At least I don't have to worry about the cars too much in my basement.

True.  and hopefully you never have to deal with rain there either!

I plan to ride tomorrow once it warms up.  I'm really eager to see if cycling aggravates my knee at all.  From what I've read online, I think I've aggravated the popliteus which is a rather strange muscle in the back of the knee that is responsible for strange things.  Might be tendinitis, so I'm not sure how long I'll be out of running for   Not sure on cycling though.  From what I've read the injury isn't too common but it can sometimes be associated with cycling or running.  Some other source though said that cycling is good exercise when it's healing.  I think it was definitely caused by running though.  If I have to walk the marathon, I'll do it with a smile but only if I have a decent bike split :P

I had a nice 2.5hr ride today.  Got in 46.7 miles which was split pretty evenly between headwind and tailwind.  I didn't try to go uber long today because I want to rack up some consistent daily mileage this week.  Knee didn't hurt at all.

I tested out my grid foam roller after which seemed to make my legs feel significantly better after.

Good to hear the knee didn't give you any problems. My flat course 90 mile Computrainer ride went pretty well. Gotta love having some tv shows and movies to watch.

Yeah...I did Coach Troy's Lake Placid DVD ride yesterday on the trainer. Too bad it's only 3 hours as my schedule had three and a half hours bike ride, so I did the last part of the climb twice. I followed his instructions throughout the course and on the last section from Wilmington to Lake Placid I blasted Metallica's last album and it was a nice energy boost for me.

This morning I am off to 10 miles run followed by the eggs hunt with my nephew in the afternoon.

Happy Easter everyone!!!

I hate hearing about all these injuries – frustrating after putting in all the training.  We too are dealing with an injury, but hoping it won’t end up being a deal breaker.  ('We' being the parents trying to do this with 2 of our kids.)  I will share what we have learned in case it can help someone.  My husband has a bad knee, definitely exacerbated by running.  An MRI showed a torn and worn meniscus in his left knee.  He has been working with a sports med doc, who gave him a choice of surgery or multiple injections.  They are not cortisone, but rather injecting a substitute substance to help cushion the knee joint.  He elected to try that route along with starting to take glucosamine chondroitin with boswella.  So far he has not been able to run but is able to cycle without too much trouble.  Yesterday we did 64 miles and he felt just some minor pain.  He may have to walk the marathon, and is now going to start fast walking instead of running in his training.  That should help maintain cardio fitness and help him be ready for whatever he ends up doing on the last leg.  Speaking of cycling – we were able to cycle outside yesterday, 50 degrees and without rain!  It was wonderful.  We did deal with a strong headwind for part of the route, but we need that to toughen us up.

KR 140.6  - it is fun to do something like this with your kids.  Keep that dream alive and really do it.  I now have a granddaughter who says she is going to do this with me someday.  That may be more of a stretch, but I will try as long as I can.

Finally able to eek out a longer ride today. 80 miles in perfect weather (low 60s with little wind) though it was so foggy at 6:30am - couldn't see 50 feet!I also had no idea that there are so many "marked" bike routes in MA. I came from mountain biking so these routes are news to me! Followed a beautiful ride called the "Apple Pi" route which took me back roads through some beautiful parts of the area. Main loop is 56 miles and almost 3000 feet of vertical climbing. Only two problems. First was that after some long climbs, I didn't get to fully enjoy all the downhills since many let to stop signs or sharp turns partway in. Second problem is that the homes I passed made me feel like I live in a double-wide trailer.Great training route for LP I hope!

Quality... My wife and I joked about that song last year, because she was in love with it. We had joked about what she would do if she heard it before the race, and as we were walking on the beach area, some guys cell phone started ringing with that song. She knew it was going to be a good day at that point .

HAHAHA that was the funniest thing!  Here I am quaking in my wetsuit and that ringtone goes off.  The other funny part was that there was a GOB scooter on the marathon course by the horsegrounds for both loops....made me bust out laughing at a MUCH needed time!!

Love my grid foam roller.   I use it daily for 3 years now.  DAILY!!   Well actually, I've only had my grid foam roller for about a year, but before that it was the crappy red foam roller from Target.  The foam roller is definitely your friend.

I wasn't planning, but my calendar unfortunately just opened up and I am looking for a Training Camp in Lake Placid in June. So far I found these three, but the price difference as you can see below is quiet big.

Any recommendations on how to choose one?

  • TriVault Ironman Lake Placid Training Camp           June 9-12        $375.00
  • Fireman Ironman Lake Placid Training Camp          June 17-19      $169.00
  • Coach Troy Lake Placid Training Camp                   June 16-19      $445.00

Endurance Nation has one the June 9-12 weekend that is $25.  It's entirely self-supported as far as stuff you need to bring, where you'll stay, etc.  which is why it's so cheap.  That's the one I'll be doing.  Link with details:  http://imusarally.eventbrite.com/

Looks great, but I don't see the swim training in their schedule.  Maybe it's just not listed on the program, but will they have any support on the Lake?

A friend of mine went to the fireman ironman camp last year and he said it was great.  Good on course support, good peeps and pro athletes are there for motivational talks.  I'm attending the May and June camps.  The more time on the course for me the better!

I was going to buy a foam roller soon. Do you feel that there is a significant difference between the quality and effectiveness of different rollers or are they all pretty similar? Do you recommend the grid roller over anything else?
