Had an IT band issue about two years ago.  Use a hard foam roller down the outside of your leg from your knee up to your hip.  Use 20 min twice a day at minimum.  The first week I had tears in my eyes from the pain but I eventually stretched the IT band out and broke up the scar tissue.  Never had a problem since.

In order for this to heal you MUST break up the scar tissue...and it WILL HURT!

Good luck!

Yes - foam rollers on your side from just below hip to just above outer knee.  My IT pain was bad and started just after Aspen marathon this summer.  After 7-10 days of foam rolling I was pain free.  I would roll after any short runs and at night before bed.

Thank goodness for a light call week.  Even though it was a recovery week, hit all workouts and this week is starting out good too.  4000 swim tonight in 1:10.  One more of those long swims before the big day.  Thats good, cuz it is boring.  Hard to sustain food form all the way through.  Funny thoughts go through my head like what will this feel like in the ocean with swells?  How will this feel like with a black eye, no goggles and no teeth (from getting hammered at start)?

The in-laws are coming in town tomorrow, so one more thing to juggle this last big week.  Sorry to hear about a couple folks with injuries.  Hopefully you'll get through it.

KathyG - 2011-10-17 8:01 PM I ordered new race tires tonight. They should improve my rolling resistance compared to my tires from last year.

Be sure to go with latex tubes as well.

Took my bike in for a good tune up before the race and found out that I despite needed a new chain and possibly a new cassette. So glad I didn't put that off. Sure would of hated to have the chain break in the race. Put new tires on last week and finally got my seat issues figures out then too. Went with the Adamo TT aNd has truly made a huge difference.

Did my long ride last weekend with the outfit I plan on wearing and the wheel/tire setup I'm planning on.

The front brake has been sticky and not opening up fully so I had them look at it during the ride (BTW, one of the definite positives of doing supported rides is tech support on the course) and they changed my cable out. Ended up I had a kink in the cable. That's not good.

Kinky brakes are not recommended

The outfit was comfortable for the whole day, ride up and century. That'll work!

Yep, same here.  Wore my tri shorts for the second time on a long ride.  I will wear them for the bike and maybe the run, depends on how I feel after the bike.  But, they are the most comfortable shots I have.

Talking to my coach and she recommended wearing my jammers under my wetsuit for the swim then changing into my tri shorts in T1.  She said I probably don't want to ride in shorts that have just been in salt water.  Another 60 seconds won't be a big deal in my day

Taking my bike in this week for a last tune up.  It always comes back looking new so it is worth taking it in.  Already put new tires and tubes in 2 weeks ago.

enjoy,

Duane

They have fresh water showers you run through after wetsuit stripping as you exit the beach on way to T1. It did a nice job for me to get salt off.

I've done a lot of salt water races and this has never been a problem but do what make you happy and comfy.

I wore my Orca shorts for the swim last year, salt water, and it's not an issue.
