Master 1704 Charlotte | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Rover24 - 2012-10-19 8:23 PM Curious what everyone's weekend looks like. I followed the Fink Competetive plan and the weekend looks like this- Sat - 4hr bike and 30min run (around 80mi and 4mi) Sun- 2hr run (around 14mi) I have picked up the intensity this week, I know I should trust the plan but it seems like a lot. I was thinking maybe only doing 3 hrs on the bike, I have gotten in 5@80 or more, 4@105 and 2@115 All bricked and done well above race pace (around 20-25 watts more) And also do you have to wear your bib# on the bike? Same issue here (also following the competitive plan). Wavered all week but decided to do the full workout as prescribed. I have cut back on the swims a bit though...needed a break from the long swims and have mixed in some shorter but faster workouts. FYI - all WTC events you have to wear the bib number on your back for the bike. |

Member 33 Raleigh | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Man, you guys all have pretty long runs this week. My last long run was two weekends ago at 18 miles. Had a long day last week with 3000 swim 93 bike and 5 m run (with small breaks in between). Nothing left really for me except 1 hour runs and shorter, which includes warm-up. Only hitting about 6 miles on those runs. two hours on the bike, tomorrow, which is about 35-40 miles for me in zones 1&2. Good thing....I don't know if I had many more "hard" days left in me. Ready to shed some fatigue.

Although the route we are doing is 64 miles and is challenging so it most likely will be 64 miles only. Rover24 - 2012-10-19 8:23 PM Curious what everyone's weekend looks like. Member 66 Santa Maria | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread have you all looked at the predicted weather. On accuweather it shows rain through out the day, with winds at 5 and gusts upto 26. I suppose those winds are associated with any of the cells that bring the rain. I am sure the forecast will change with time, just wanted to share what I saw. |

If the goal is to finish, I think people over estimate the volume of training required. As my husband loves to point out, he finished IMFL im 15:30 last year on about 5-7 hours of training per week (pretty much just Saturday and Sunday). Taper makes everyone doubt things. Especially your training to date. Trust your plan. And as kaburns said, lots of people finish with minimal training. Some just train the bike and swim then plan to walk the marathon. It's pretty much too late to change your fitness. The best you can do now is taper well. Prepare yourself mentally, and trust that it will work out well. x2! |

Haha I know the feeling. My SO is supportive but her longest run is 4 miles, her longest swim is a mile. I have to talk about the IM with my marathoner friends and 1 friend who runs ultras. Even they shake their heads at me and think I'm crazy. HA. 2 More weeks! Got my last long run in today, 12 miles and about to head to the pool for an hour or so. Tomorrow is a full rest day, I've been going 13 days straight. Visiting the cider mill for some delicious doughnuts and cider. |

Personally you will not see me running a marathon unless I swim 2.4 and bike 112 first. I'm so not a runner and have zero desire to do a stand alone mary. IM is a lot mental game and stubborn and I got a lot of stubborn in me |

Extreme Veteran 688 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Today I did 2:11 bike and 5 miles run. Tomorrow, I plan on doing a 2hr bike with 11 mile run. But I am feeling pretty beat up so I might cut things short. I did a hard bike and run last Wednesday that really set me back. I felt great going into it and during but the next day not so much. I would be careful doing any long stuff this week-end.....2 week taper would start tomorrow since the race is on a Saturday. |

Expert 1148 Santa Fe, New Mexico | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Two weeks from today, about this time, rather than just finishing my work out I should be just out on the run. Two weeks from TODAY ! Today was 3:40 (56 miles) on the bike, 15 min run, and supposed to be 5000 yards in the pool. I made 2300 before they closed. Tomorrow only 25 min run. I'm pretty toasted and really ready for some rest. It has just hit me in the last couple of days. This week is pretty light and I think I'm going to honor it. my body needs some recovery time. |

New user 11 Cary, NC | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Today was my last brick of 50ride/10run - a bit surreal after a whole year we are down to 2 weeks Love this fall weather in NC - so perfect and gave me a chance to try out my arm warmers - loved em. I'm lucky to have a spouse who totally gets it. He did IMLP in July and now its nice to swap the support role. Has anyone ever stayed at Gulfcrest? its on the run course and it looks to be only a mile or so from boardwalk. I'm hoping its convenient for family. Also spouse is thinking of taking boys to see me one time out on bike - any recommendations on where is a good spot. I think he'll have to move car day before to be able to drive away from run course. |

Extreme Veteran 688 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Just not feeling it. I shortened by bike by 45mins and my 11 mile run was tough. I have some twinges here and there. I am really looking forward to the taper. I think I might blast my fatigue and replenish my body by swimming the next two days and 3rd day a short run/bike(about 20mins on the run and 45mins on the bike) all easy. |

Did a 3 hr bike yesterday and was supposed to do 2 hr bike and 1:15 run today. Just didn't feel the bike so I went out for a 2 hr run. Great run! Weather broke last night so it was in the 60's early this morning. Loved it. It will still get into the 80's today but the humidity has dropped. |

New user 82 Gallatin, TN | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread 62 mile ride today followed by a short run. One more 3 hour bike ride next weekend (supposed to be cold) and couple of moderate distance runs. Gotta believe I am ready, I think my head is on straight (or a least as straight as it can be for someone who signed up for this in the first place!). Getting ansy about packing, and I know it won't take THAT long. Watching the weather out of the corner of my eye, but todays ride started at 55 degrees and I was fine, good confidence builder. I have also decided to go with my trisuit for the entire race. It is comfortable, less likely to give me problems on the run and will definitely save me time in transition (though I may give some of it back during porta stops!). |

My husband and I floundered and fought and gave up our earnest workout to play our way back against the surf (we have a .6 N-S route). Glad to have the experience, JUST in case! |
