I think that the rule of thumb may apply more to first timers. If you're a "Rock Star" like Carla T, I think you can do what's conveinient to you. Meaning you could give and take on the timing as long as the goal of doing it for the that season is still desired. Just .02 |

Would you do it? Signed, Stress-to-the-max-to-miss-a-possible-opportunity! I think making any decision under pressure/stress isn't a good one especially if it is a decision about somethng that doesn't really speak to you. Of course I don't know the whole story but just my thoughts at the moment. |

Carla, I think you would look good in a cowboy hat, and you could probably find some very good post race bbq there! .............Waiting to see if I guessed the right IM! Seriously though, I have registered for 4 IM's and dropped from 2 of them. The first one I dropped was due to lack of motivation from doing an IM a year and the pressure it put on from a training perspective with my non-tri schedule at the time. The 2nd one was this years and the injury was the culprit, but I was very motivated. Only you know if you can get through the training with less than full motivation or if you can get motivated by pulling the trigger to register! |

New user![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Not sure exactly what I was thinking but I signed up for Ironman Texas yesterday. I hope IMFL works out for me. My plan right now is to try and do at least 1 ironman a year and Texas seemed like a good choice. The good thing is I'll already have a great base started from my IMFL training. I just need to make sure and not slack off after IMFL. I'll probably take most of the month of Nov off and then get back started the 1st of Dec. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I hired a coach. Carla was nice enough to introduce me to this wonderful woman who I feel is a great fit for me. I have had really bad coaching experiences in the past and was more then gun shy and financially strapped. Brian recently started a job after being laid off for a year, so I felt I could explore the idea of coaching again. We met and she has been great. I have had more correspondance with her in three days then I ever had with the coach I had for almost a year. She is meeting me on Saturday to look at my run (that should be interesting). She is also extremely reasonable as far as price goes. Actually she is more then reasonable. I am hoping this lights a spark under me, which I feel it has. Anyway, I feel a bit more encouraged by what is to come as it has been a tough season so far. I am doing a sprint tri on Sunday. It is going to be the hardest sprint I have ever done. Cold water, high elevation and climbing on the bike (it is in Evergreen CO which sits at 7100 feet. The top of the bike is 8100 feet) and a run that starts with a 4.4% incline for over half a mile. My friends talked me into signing up for this months ago. At least I won't have past times to compare it to and it is a small race so the swim waves will be manageable Happy Friday all! |

You should be fine for Texas Wesley, just easy back in slowly and make sure not to get yourself burned out. Physically with a few weeks rest you will be fine, mentally you got to be flexible and not force the training until you are ready and motivated. That is different for everyone. |

Ken, Ken, Ken... ...I actually do look sharp in a "Cowboy Hat!" !!!! (Will post photo as time permits!) And you did guess right, but MUM's the word!!!!! No Facebook'ing about this no mater what! The time of year is PERFECT for me with respect to IMTX. I am a Treadmill/Trainer kinda gal... and Colorado Winters really support indoor training during the holidays and first quarter of the year. While the timing is right, the conditions and location does not speak to me. And while I do consider myself a "Seasoned Ironman" there is a part of me that still needs the intense draw of a heart connection to my Ironman to help me stay honest with respect to my training demands. There are other factors that are a draw for this race... it's just that if those factors changed or shifted in any way I would not have the desire or interest in this race to "commit" to the training. Decision point is near... stay tuned. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() kenj - 2012-07-13 2:24 AM TGIF!! Good luck to the racers this weekend, I am looking forward to volunteering and being at the races!! x2! Good luck to all the racers! I originally was going to do the Club Triathlon (500, 10-12mi, 5K) tomorrow, but I kind of wasn't in the "mood" for it, and then by the time that I started to "feel" the mood, it's too full. Oh well. Don't you hate it when you're wishy washy then when you are confident, it's too late? Slightly bummed about it because I paid for the membership, and I will miss this Tri club Triathlon and the next one (in September, due to my wedding). I haven't quite decided on whether to do 35 miles bike ride with some of the riders from the bike shop, or volunteer for the Tri Club Triathlon, and while I'm there, do my 40-45 min run prior to the tri. What to do, what to do...lol. |

Let me know how it works out for you. Russrisher: I think having a personal coach is awesome. If it fits your budget, I would encourage you to have the experience at least once. I actually have the focus and discipline to be "Self Coached", but there is something very special about the accountability of having a hired coach to oversee your training. Also, it's nice to have your routines fed to you rather than having to strategically manage them yourself. I highly recommend getting a coach, with this caveat: Take the time to interview your coach. Meet them face to face. Think about your personalities and how they will work together over time. Observe how they regard their other athletes. While a single meeting is not a fair indication about a coaches personality, do take some time to delve beyond their podium places and written resume as a great athlete does not necessarily make a great coach! |

IMFL will be my first Ironman. As far as my decision for IMTX, there are a couple of reasons. My training partner has had the bug since I signed up for IMFL and the timing worked out good for both of us. He has been training with me for IMFL and I'm going to return the favor for IMTX. Hopefully I'll be as excited about IMTX as I am IMFL. I've also never been to Texas and what better reason to go. Maybe I'll get lucky and there will be a late cool snap and I'll be able to wear my wetsuit. |
