Underwear? who wears those for a tri?  Maybe I missed that chapter in Friel's book!  Good luck Trevor!

Not much on tap for us this weekend--dinner with friends and that is about it.  Tomorrow is a long, long run, maybe a recovery bike and swim on Sunday.

Got bad news on the tri bike front.  Cliff's note version, I won't be getting one this year.  The only custom that came back as an option would have been completely outside of my budget.  I could go with a ti/carbon frame, but even it would have to look like a road bike to fit me. Am I asking to much to have something that looks off the rack, like a Cervelo? a Guru?  What I wouldn't give to be 5" tall!

Enjoy the weekend.  Train well.

Go Trevor Go!

Hope everyone has a great weekend...looks like some of us are going to have incredible weather.  Hoping to get my bike off of the trainer and go for a nice bike ride.  Yay!

Suzy that sucks, I will probably have the same issues if I ever decide to get a tri bike...stock XS and 48's are just too big for me...5'1"  15K would buy me a Honda Fit...or 2/3 of Solar panels for my house!  Yikes...good decision for now.

Everyone take your vitamins, there are some crazy germs going around out there right now.

Epic day today. 19 inches of new snow yesterday and not a cloud in the sky today. I am such a lucky man! More snow for tomorrow!!!

I think it poured 2" in Madison today.  Oh and it was a balmy 38F to go with it!  Ended up doing my long run on the TM which is getting old.  I have two left and am bound and determined to do them outside.

We have to remember to send positive vibes to Trevor tomorrow morning.  I am guessing he will start his swim around 7 or 8am. GO TREVOR!  Swimmer

I was in the committing mood tonight.  I signed up for the Marine Corp Half Marathon and was going to sign up for a local sprint tri through SetupEvents.  I was at the sign up page for the sprint when I saw that there was an additional 6% online registration fee.  These things are expensive enough as they are and I have plenty of time to sign up before the next price increase and before it sells out.  Why don't they give you an option to register with a regular paper form?    Just another way to make me spend more of my hard earned money.

My wife is doing that one also, supposed to be pretty hilly.

Hope everyone had a great weekend (Trevor, where are you?)

Had a good long run today, Just imported my 12 week Olympic plan to hopefully get me ready for Mooseman.

Though the plan will be a bit skewed as I am doing a century, 1/2 marathon a Time Trial, and some sprints before mooseman.

My plan from here on out with Tri's  Endurance Sports is to have fun and try all sorts of races in different sports.  Maybe if I ever get to liking swimming I will try something longer than an olympic.

Yes Trevor, where are you?  I was sending good out the good wishes this morning for you but Steve says it may have snowed over there in Vancouver!

Tony, that sounds like a great plan...having fun and trying diff. sports.  Re: liking swimming...I think I chose an HIM and sprints this year because swimming was a smaller proportion of the race compared to OLY and only a little bit longer (1500 yds vs. 2100 yds    So I figured I have a bit more time to try to catch up to some of my age group who will undoubtedly finish way before me in the swim.  That's my backwards reasoning

Hi everyone!

I think Trevor told us he was coming home tonight so maybe he did not take his pc with him.  Already had the motherload of gear I am sure!

I agree with Tony.  My focus for the upcoming season is fun!  I am doing some things I have never done before (like swimming over 400 yards in OW) so I am going to learn along the way and not stress out over placement.  I will give it all I have, but if I come out of the H20 last so be it!  #1 goal for Boston is running, not walking up Heartbreak hill like last year.

Enjoy the day!

Morning everyone,  I had a fabulous weekend in the, dare I say it, HEAT!!  It was fantastic.  Sadly my week off with sickness slowed me down and my distances were not what I hoped for this weekend, but I still got out there and was moving.

I have a question.  I've accumulated $80 worth of gift cards for my tri shop and my hubby is trying to convince me to buy an aero helmet for my half.  It is a flat course that is suppose to be windy and the hubby says I'd be crazy not to use one.  My aero bars should be arriving soon, but I think I would look like an idiot on a road bike with an aero helmet.  Maybe I am not confident enough to pull off the look.  Where I live it is very hilly so I spend most of my time climbing, therefore no need for the aero.  Maybe if I spent more time time trialing I would feel differently. What do you guys think?  Does anyone else have an aero helmet with their road bike?

You are so funny.  And you think exactly the way I do.  I was looking at aero helmets in Triathlete magazine and thought  people would point and laugh at me wondering why I was wearing an aero helmt on a road bike going 15mph downhill!  I await the answers from people much wiser than me .

ahhhh ladies have you forotten the triathlete motto: If you can't be good you have to look good or at least like you know what you are doing :-)

Don't be concerned about someone laughing at you. You are the one doing the race and not standing on the sidelines. Try falling over your handlebars just trying to get onto the bike right in front of all the spectators who are watching everyone leave transition one. Now that is something you (I) don't want to do twice. Well actually 3 times but one wasn't my fault.

Tracy... NO WAY!  You save yourself about .05mph over ever few miles... NOT WORTH IT!  Especially given the riding you do most of the time....

Spend the money on Nutrition, Speed Laces, Nutrition, A new pair of VERY NICE TRI SHORTS, or TOP, You will need new goggles some day, etc.... Hang tight on them!

Not worth it for the aero helmet!!

Here is one picture from this weekend!!

Gorgeous pic, Steve!  We had excellent weather here, not hot like Tracy's but very comfy (high 50's and no rain).

I also think I'd be quite the poser with an aero-helmet.  It was a big enough step for me to go ahead and have the aero-bars installed on my road bike.  I must say I like the aero position on the flats, though .  I also like the way the road helmet looks (Chrissie Wellington wears one!)...I'm an old school kind of gal.  Also, if it's going to be hot, ventilation is always good.

Do any of you guys/gals have the little bento box for goodies on the bike?  I was thinking that would be better than having to shove stuff into my jersey after the swim.  And re: speed laces, I haven't been able to adjust mine to where they don't make my feet go numb/or worse, feel too loose!

Steve, thanks for that training plan article, it is/was very helpful.

"At an Ironman distance triathlon an aero helmet could save between 3 and 6 minutes. "

Check out the pictures below.. In order to be benefical you would need to be "AERO" the whole time, otherwise you could be doing more harm than good.... http://www.bikesportmichigan.com/features/aero_helmet.shtml

Kim, I have a Fuel Belt box... Much like the Bento, but it is a tad stiffer so it doesn't tweak, or bend at all... I love it!  Also you can get a XLAB set up on the back of your bike which you can add a bag/box to, but not as easy to reach, and it really depends on what you are putting in there....  On my rear Xlab I have all the stuff to change a flat, and 2 water bottle cages...  I don't keep nutrition back there.  I keep in on my box up front along w/ my cell phone, etc.. Hope this helps!?

Hey Kim

I have the fuel belt box too and really like it.  It is a little larger and has a zipper vs velcro which is easier for me to maneuver.  It holds a lot for how small it is.  Definitely recommend it!

Thanks guys!  It looks nice and I like the zipper feature vs. velcro too.  I will definitely look into it, even for cell phone and car keys...esp if there is a special side zipper.

Good evening everyone.  Not a whole lot to talk about on my end.  Just tired as hell today from the weekend and had a pretty crappy swim.  Actually we swam in the outdoor pool (not to rub in any of you Yanks faces or anything).  I guess I was swimming in a lane with 2 fast guys on either side and really realized how slow I was.  And to boot, they seemed like they were doing what they were doing with no effort.  So I exited the pool feeling a little "skint up"(physically and emotionally devestated).

I think I am going to slow it down a little this week and just do a few short runs, group rides, and swim a little.  Maybe call this a rest week.
